Eight Killed As Farmers, Herders Clash In Kebbi, Five Persons Rescued by BureauJournal(op): 6:33pm On Jun 23
By Abdullahi Tukur

No fewer than eight persons have been killed following a violent clash between farmers and herders in Gulma Town, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Bureau Journal gathered that the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday evening and has since triggered heightened security measures in the affected community.

Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the crisis began when a herder identified as Yaron Buba Dogo allegedly allowed his cattle to stray into the farmland of one Alhaji Aminu Ala, resulting in the destruction of crops.

According to the police spokesperson, a confrontation ensued between the two men during which the farmer was allegedly stabbed in the neck and died from the injuries sustained.

Mob Attack Escalates Violence

SP Bashir Usman explained that following the killing of the farmer, angry youths and residents mobilised and attacked the herder, killing him before setting his body ablaze.

The situation quickly degenerated into widespread violence as the mob allegedly launched further attacks on members of the affected community.

Despite efforts by security operatives to contain the crisis, four additional persons lost their lives and their bodies were burnt beyond recognition during the violence.

The police further disclosed that two more corpses were later recovered from a farmland located outside Gulma Town, bringing the total death toll to eight.

Five Persons Rescued

The Police Command stated that five persons, including a woman, were successfully rescued during the operation and evacuated to safety at the Argungu Police Station.

The rescued victims are currently under protective custody as authorities continue efforts to restore calm in the area.

Curfew Imposed as Security Tightens

To prevent further escalation of the crisis, a joint security operation comprising police and other security agencies has been deployed to Gulma and surrounding communities.

The Kebbi State Government has also imposed a curfew in the affected area to maintain law and order.

According to the police, normalcy is gradually returning as security patrols and surveillance operations continue across the community.

Investigation Ongoing

The Police Command said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend individuals responsible for the killings and destruction recorded during the clash.

The Bureau Journal reports that authorities have urged residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore lasting peace in Gulma Town and other parts of Argungu Local Government Area.

Everyday Nigeria is going 5 million steps backward.no news on scientific breakthrough, technology or innovation apart from mass killing of people, kidnapping and religious war. The day Niger delta will wake up from its slumber will be the end of Nigeria

I don't know why the government have not woken up to its responsibility of protecting lives and property.

I am farming on my land, my farm, you tresspassed my farm with your cows and damaged my crops. I complain and the next thing you kill me for complaining. Like WTH🤷

Open grazing should be banned. Too many lives have been lost because of this.

Don’t know why government is delaying on this grazing reserve. president Tinubu should pass an executive order requiring governors to provide suitable lands in their states( with consent of the local communities) for grazing of livestock and ban the movement of livestock by foot. This will reduce this situation by over 95%. Unless we are saying we are afraid of a particular tribe among the over 250 tribes in this country. That would be shameful. No one should be talking about grazing route in this 21st century world.

These Fulani herders have pushed everybody to the wall and I can't blame any community that confront them eye for eye tooth for tooth enough is enough of sitting folding arms and Niger Rep, Malian, Chadians killing our citizen anyhow enough is enough.

Since Fulani herds have chosen not to live in peace with anybody then they should be ready to face the prize of making themselves endanger species that is their luck.

Until Nigerian government summons the political will to end open grazing, stories of herders farmers clashes will not cease...for God sake this is 21st century and we are still practicing nomadic cow rearing. Government should not just make pronouncements but must be seen to act and act decisively,if not we are only postponing the evil day.

Any hearder that allow his cattle to stray on another man's farmland should be arrested and must pay compensation to the affected farmer, simple, but it will shock you to know that most of these cattles are owned by big Alhajis and top politicians, most of the Fulani herdsmen are mere hired Shepards.
Re: Eight Killed As Farmers, Herders Clash In Kebbi, Five Persons Rescued by b0rn2fuck(m): 9:02am On Jun 24
Why would you go to someone farm to give you cattle feeds, that's not clash, that's harder terrorising and invading the farming land and they need to be put into check hence defending themselves because farmers will not carry their farm land everywhere they go but once a herders kill in self defense ,it becomes a clash
Re: Eight Killed As Farmers, Herders Clash In Kebbi, Five Persons Rescued by Lateef73: 9:04am On Jun 24
I support the total ban on open grazing in Nigeria. I don't even know what the Ministry of Livestock Development is doing.

Let’s not be too hard on him sha, I am thinking that with this state police bill he is championing, the states that have already passed their anti grazing laws but the federal police have refused to implement, will be able to use their state police to enforce those anti grazing laws passed by the state legislature and signed by the governors. That is what I am suspecting sha, just hope I am right.

Yet the same northerners will not accept ranching. Only in Nigeria they leave solution at home and heading to jungle to look for same solution they left at home.

No one will provide suitable land for anybody. They should buy or lease lands to do their business. That's the acceptable norm everywhere

I agree, is just that we need to find unconventional solutions to the deaths this problem is causing. I think the money the governors are using to sponsor people to Mecca or isreal can be used to develop reserves in the states willing to do so. This will be more beneficial use of money.

For most cattles close to urban areas. Those in hinterlands are owned are by nomads.
