Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has dumped Governor Ademola Adeleke and endorsed the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Adewale Adebayo, ahead of the August 15th 2026 governorship election.

Oyinlola dispelled the acclaimed alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Accord Party, noting that the structure would rather work for APM and not any other party.

The ex-governor speaking with newsmen at his residence in Okuku, Osun State, after a meeting session with the 2027 National and State Assemblies candidates of APM led by its 2026 candidate, Adebayo, disclosed that the APM/PDP alliance is a movement that seeks to take over government in the 2026 and 2027 polls, hence they need to strategise ahead of the polls.

The former governor said, “This meeting is to get to know our candidates for the forthcoming elections, the governorship elections and the general elections in 2027. This is a movement that has a combination of APM and PDP. We form an alliance to present a formidable force for the forthcoming elections.

“So the modalities of going through the whole process are what we have just come to discuss and to sensitise the general public that APM is coming.

There is an alliance between APM and PDP. That was formalised some time ago. There’s an alliance and it is that alliance that we are building our strategy on for the forthcoming elections. This is an endorsement for APM candidates and no other party.”

He charged the candidates to work rigorously for Adebayo to emerge victorious at the polls.

Ex-National Vice-Chairman of PDP, Tajudeen Oladipo claimed that some leaders called him on the phone before the meeting to solicit his support but he declined.

He said, “People have lost confidence in Accord and All Progressives Congress (APC), APM has provided a better alternative for the people of the state. We are not in the race for fun.”

Similarly, ex- Secretary to the State Government, Fatai Akinbade, charged the candidates not to take the contest as child’s play but work assiduously for victory.

The gubernatorial candidate, Adebayo said, “Osun election is a litmus test for 2027 election, this is the reason why we must make a statement by winning this poll to signal victory for our presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

“We are not in the contest to back any political party, we commend you, our fathers for rejecting pleas and offers from APC and Accord. They have nothing to offer the state other than ill-governance. I am confident that with the support of the PDP structure, we will win.”

Because Lagos is cosmopolitan and votes will always get split any which way. With Seyi Makinde refusing to play ball in Oyo, they cannot afford to lose Osun too. That will be 3 out 6 SW states where votes will be balkanized, which Tinubu cannot afford. This explains why despite openly pledging support for Tinubu, Adeleke is still being pressured while Igboho has been unleashed on Makinde to destabilise him as a pressure tactic but Seyi is fully on ground!

My brother, it is clear you don't mean well for Nigeria. You just hate APC. If you mean well, you will support good candidates and products across party lines. Adeleke is a bad candidate yet you support him. That is terrible. Tinubu should as well continue

A new policy brief has warned that Nigeria’s worsening debt profile and weak revenue generation have pushed the country into a dangerous fiscal position, with the current administration accumulating more debt in two years than Nigeria recorded during its first 55 years after independence.

The report, released by the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics LTD/GTE, a Nigerian policy think tank, argued that the country’s debt crisis has evolved into a governance and revenue emergency, as debt servicing obligations now exceed the federal government’s retained earnings.

According to the think tank, Nigeria’s public debt rose sharply from N87.38 trillion in June 2023 to N159.28 trillion by the end of 2025, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accounting for about N65.9 trillion of the increase within its first two years in office.

The organisation in the brief titled: “Nigeria Is Borrowing to Breathe—and the Clock Is Ticking”, noted that Nigeria accumulated only about N12.06 trillion in debt from independence in 1960 up to 2015, meaning the current administration added more than five times that amount in just 24 months.

The report stated that while previous governments also contributed significantly to the country’s rising debt burden, the speed of accumulation under the current administration had intensified concerns over fiscal sustainability.

“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added a further N65.9 trillion in just two years. To put that in perspective: it took Nigeria’s first 55 years of independence to accumulate N12 trillion in debt. The current administration has added more than five times that amount in 24 months,” it argued.

It recalled that Nigeria briefly became almost debt-free externally after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured an $18 billion Paris Club debt relief package in 2005 and paid $12 billion to extinguish about $30 billion in external obligations.

So who will win Osun in 2027, even when Adeleke himself has endorsed Tinubu? Oriyomi Hamzat, who is giving Makinde sleepless nights in Oyo State, has also endorsed Tinubu. Both are contesting under Accord, respectively.
Makinde on the ballot will take away opposition votes, the bulk of votes Atiku got in 2023 in Oyo is going to Makinde. Or will Aregbe delivers Osun for Atiku in 2027? Not when Adeleke and AMBO are working for Tinubu re-election.
Makinde is an option for those who against APC MUslim-Muslim ticket, all not going to Obi again. Can I even say Makinde is working for Tinubu? Lol
