Our Renewed Hope Education reforms are delivering measurable results. I’m pleased to see Nigerian universities record their strongest performance yet in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This year, 24 Nigerian universities were ranked globally, up from 21 in previous years, making Nigeria the most represented country in Sub Saharan Africa. Even more encouraging, 17 of those institutions are federal universities, reflecting the progress we are making in strengthening our public higher education system. Congratulations to the University of Ibadan, the University of Lagos, Bayero University Kano, and every Nigerian university recognised in this year’s rankings. This achievement belongs to the entire higher education sector and demonstrates what is possible when institutions are committed to excellence. These rankings are not just about prestige. They are evidence that our investments in research, innovation, digital transformation, quality assurance, infrastructure, and governance are beginning to translate into global recognition. Even more encouraging, 27 additional Nigerian universities participated in this year’s assessment, demonstrating a growing commitment to transparency, benchmarking, and continuous improvement. Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we remain committed to the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), ensuring our universities produce the knowledge, innovation, and talent that will drive Nigeria’s future. The work continues. Source

ryloy:Please can you show us the remaining state University that made the list. I'm concerned about Anambra State University and Lagos State University, let's see which one among the 2 made the list. At least it will give an insight on the input of the past governors of these states |

This ranking makes no sense to me, what is important is one's ability to develop his mental capabilities Many that graduated from the top in the list thinks more or less like idiots with zero cognitive reasoning |

OAU ooo. The last time I visited that school to see my nephew, most of their infrastructure were so bad. The federal government needs to look into it. My sec schl mate's son died on the field of play. He was electrocuted, very intelligent a boy. He stepped on a live wire near the field. A lot of face lift is needed to restore the old glory of that institution |

I can see my alma mata amongst the top ranking ones but we need to admit it that our universities are glorified secondary schools and we have a very very long if not impossible way to go to get them to global standards |
| Re: Ranking Of Nigeria Universities By Times Higher Education by mycar: 2:58pm On Jun 28 |
What was the ranking before , because this still ranked the best Nigeria university as over between 801 to 1500 plus in the world.? |
| Re: Ranking Of Nigeria Universities By Times Higher Education by Eriokanmi: 2:59pm On Jun 28 |
ryloy:Pls stop this propaganda. Which renewed hope education reform are you talking about here ? 10 years ago and in subsequent years, UI was ranked the best top 600 on the global ranking and buhari didn't make noise about it. When a president performs well, it's his work that will tell, not himself or his propagandists. Today they're on the top 801 list. These guys have come again. Stop celebrating failure ![]() That's how they came here recently and started celebrating a marginal improvement in naira value against the USD, as if it's not under same tinubu that naira became tissue papers and the cefa that used to be one of the worst currencies in africa had left the naira far behind. |

Questionable ranking. Outside Nigeria, we may be able to see the picture better. |
