Very strong Objectives of NYSC but Terrorism has changed everything

Many unreported deaths, agonies are suffered by the unsuspecting youths. World is becoming smaller by day not to talk of a country, social media era has overtaken and rendered the importance of the original plan of NYSC useless

When I served in 2017 in NYSC camp in Sagamu Ogun state, a pregnant married corper was caught sleeping with another corper on the second day of camp. Her husband was quickly called to come and remove his trash bag from the camp. They didn't tell him why. Na security for get tell am say dem catch him wife dey collect gbola for bush.

Oga dey lie small small na, pregnant women (and nursing mothers) are usually not allowed to stay in camp, except she explicitly hides her pregnancy which means you also (narrating the story) won't have known she was pregnant.
Guess you heard the rumour from somewhere/someone without even trying to second guess it's validity.

With the security challenges in the country, the NYSC should have been strictly military(or para) service for those willing to participate. Then the graduates be posted to their respective states as national gurads already trained in drills and weapons handling. This is how Israel do their own

You thought you have as a question?
Do you know you can be ai certified within 30 days, no iffs or buts.
An electrical and electronics graduate, can be conversant with Solar installation within 6 weeks, learn and learned cable sizing, power audits, inverter configuration and hustling for customers and gradually make some good income.
Add customer service edge in less looked down but richly rewarding bread and butter business of moi, akara, doughnuts etc.
Are you aware that in cities like Onitsha, Enugu some operators have built mansions and residential homes through akara business.

Do you still want to be seen as a lazy youth? And an unemployed graduate?

I resumed camp on the 3rd day of camp opening. While security officials were going through my bag, the corpers husband was causing a scene at the gate threatening to leave her there. NYSC officials were insistent that they have handed her over to him and would take no responsibility if anything happened to her.

It was the husband who revealed that she was pregnant. He was also calling her relatives to come and get her and that she won't follow him back to Lagos. I entered the camp and left them at the gate. I don't know how the matter ended. In those 3 weeks of camp 2 other sets of corpers were caught having sex in the bush as well. Only the ladies got sent away from the camp.

Let's Discuss About This.

Whoever is behind this idea only wants to trend.....
So after the corps members acquiring this skill, you now post them to do teaching jobs and etc, for the remaining months of the nysc program....

Let the PBAT administration go back and make a proper skill acquisition program and after the training, put the corps members into relevant sectors of the economy where such skills are needed....

If this aim is to make people self employed and reliant on themselves, the government should also look at giving grants to those who are actually going to become same and let them work as some form of special cooperative system/association.

You can learn networking or job networking in 6 weeks.

Why must there be military drill?

How come the military drills never made a difference when corps members pass out?

What is the point of the drills? How much better and prepared for the labour market do these drills make the corps members?

Someone is trying to reform the scheme to get the best out of it, but you people insist on the old, unproductive way.

The camp drills alone prepared corpers ahead of any challenges withnes during primary assignment.

It makes them more fits and competent.

If you need military drills to prepare you to be fit and competent, then you should just join the military.

Before I went for service, I was juggling 3 jobs and always got home late every night to still make dinner for myself.

That was before NYSC.

I knew someone who always walked from Moro to Ife. For those who know Osun State, they will tell you how far those places are from each other.

I think Nigerian youths are unfortunately largely lazy and unadventurous. What if there is no NYSC, how will many of you even survive?

Many of the things I learnt at NYSC were things I already learnt. I prayed for my posting to be to the South East because that was the only region I had never visited, but it never happened as I was posted to Kwara.

Wow that's crazy, but as I said, she did indeed hid her pregnancy because even non-pregnant married women can choose to leave camp (if I'm not mistaken) after documentation or second day.

I don't have time waste with UNPRODUCTIVE PEOPLE. Tinubu should focus on important things. What is wrong with the military drills? Is that not part of what makes it a national service? People will be posted in areas that are not comfortable. The military drills help prepare them for the challenges ahead.

This is a very wrong move. I hope in the nearest future, another president reverses it.
