Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that Nigeria may not survive another civil war, noting that many of the conditions that triggered the Biafra war remain unresolved.

Obasanjo issued this warning on Wednesday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta when he received a historical publication titled ‘Asaba Massacre’ from the Isama Ajie of Asaba, Chief Chuck Nduka-Eze.

The document detailed the killing of civilians in Asaba during the Nigerian Civil War.

The ex-Nigerian leader, while reflecting on his own role during the civil war, stated that he could not give a detailed account of the Asaba killings because the military operations in the area were under the command of the late Murtala Muhammed.

“The conditions that led to the Nigerian civil war years ago still remain unresolved.

“I was involved in the civil war, but whenever people ask me about the Asaba massacre, I always tell them I cannot give details because Murtala Muhammed was responsible for operations in that area,” he said.

According to the former leader, he had previously been questioned about Muhammed’s role during the conflict but maintained that he was not in a position to comment.

Chief Chuck Nduka-Eze, was probably a child if born at all, when this massacre happened, but he has put himself in a position to comment in a book, yet Obasanjo says he is "not in a position to comment".

It is Obasanjo's desire to hide the facts that will create the conditions for another civil war!

There can’t be any civil war

Britain was threatened by the unprecedented technological advancement of igbos , something they have never seen of a black race before and the reason they supported Gowon against the igbos and Queen Elizabeth and Britain never apologized for the pogrom till date

If that war was between only Nigeria and Biafra without British support. Igbos would have concluded that war with a resounding victory in a matter of days because then 80% of the best trained Nigerian officers then were of Igbo extraction then and Igbo was practically in charge of every facet of Nigeria and which brewed a lot of animosity and jealousy towards igbos

Obasanjo is right. Cracks still exist that are being ignored. Proactive leaders think ahead of the now. That's what obj is doing.

Obasanjo still looks more agile and articulate than tinubu.


Tinubu doesn't inspire any confidence when looked at. I always doubt he even knows what he is doing when I see him.
