Football Is Cruel! Football Is Wicked! Football: Bloody Hell! by Kalulu44(op): 3:57am On Jul 03
Hmmmm.... Football: Bloody Hell, so says Sir Alex Ferguson after Man United scored 91st 92nd minutes goals to snatch the UCL from the hands of Bayern Munich in 1999.
Early this morning, another bloody hell of football played out again.
.
As I am writing this, I am a big fan of England and Portuguese national teams and a further big fan of Ronaldo.
But the match I watch this morning, Portugal doesn't deserve to go thru over Croatia.
Croatia where the better side by a mile but was undone by referee/VAR and cruel nature of the game.
That's why I title this my thread Football Is Cruel.
.
Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and co. In as much I love you guys and wants you guys to win, the truth is you guys were helped by mother luck today.
That penalty converted by Ronaldo was a controversial one. I wouldn't give that as a penalty if I am the referee.
And out of nowhere after Portugal have been on the robs by Croatia, Ramos conjured a goal out of nothing to undone Croatians domination.
It's a pity Croatia had to go out this way. But if I am their fans, they should hold their heads high. Their team were the superior team on the day and doesn't deserve their premature end to the world cup.
.
As for Ronaldo and Portugal, you guys should count yourself lucky today for decisions that went in your favours, I am still supporting you guys, but I doubt lightning can strike twice against Spain with you guys insipid play.
If you guys don't improve on this abysmal performance then Spain will embarrassed you guys out of the tournament.
Once again Football is bloody hell, Croatia you did your people proud, may you guys be luckier next time.

After reading the title, I thought an African was about to talk about the heartbreak of DR Congo, Senegal or Côte d'Ivoire after leading their Round of 16 matches and still ending up eliminated.
Instead, here we are having a pity party over European teams.

Honestly, when are we Africans going to start consuming and promoting our own football? As a non-Nigerian, I come to Nairaland hoping to see discussions about Nigerian clubs or African football, but it's Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and the rest all day.

We complain that African football isn't growing, yet we're the first to ignore it. That's the real problem.

That's exactly what I did. Funny how my opinion bothers you more than his post bothered me.

Guy, in life do what makes you happy. Cus I'm doing mine.
FYI I am also a die hard fan of my state team Enyimba Int'l of Aba, Abia state.
Off recent they have been disappointing me, same with our local league clubs that can't do anything in African competition.
.
So I should continue getting angry over them when I can make myself happy elsewhere.
And what concerns me with Congo DR and co. When they, Senegal and co all crashed out. Didn't we talked about them and how inexperience they all are.
So we should continue talking about them forever.
Abeg my post is about today match, stick with that. If African football conversation comes or better still create the thread and we'll join you to analyse it, thank you.

Thank you bro.
He even thinks he loves African and Nigeria football more than me.
Me that's a die hard fan of Enyimba and Super Eagles. Apart from Enyimba, I followed our local club sides representing us in Africa, but all of them including my Enyimba are fumbling badly.
.
So I shouldn't support another teams that gives me joy. My post is just about today's match and how cruel football can be and he's blabbing

You said Congo and Senegal lost because of "lack of experience." Exactly what experience were they lacking that Croatia had?

Funny how an African team loses and the first thing you point to is its shortcomings. But when a European team loses, it's "they should have qualified."

That's the mentality I'm talking about. We are the first to put ourselves down. Then we wonder why African football isn't respected.

Anyway, enjoy your Portuguese game... and Ronaldo.
