I thought as much. Adire and Ankara are known with cultures from the South-West which is where the President is from.

Other parts of the country may feel sidelined because they have their indigenous clothing too that are made locally as well.

Lets thread slowly on this to avoid cultural divides.

The khaki NYSC have historically used can be made in Nigeria too. Its almost like saying Nigeria Police, Army,Airforce, Navy, Custom etc should start wearing Ankara to promote local manufacturing. It makes zero sense please.

Adire and Ankara are not exclusively yoruba patterns, Ankara is worn right across the country as an inexpensive material to make clothing.

Show me a community where Ankara is not commonly worn as a casual material. BTW Ankara is not from the SW it was introduced to the SW at the time it was introduced to Nigeria however the nature of clothing styles in SW made it popular. SW culture dominates casual styles across Nigeria

Under a Yoruba President and Minister of Youth Development, NYSC uniform is to be Adire Fabrics. So, therefore, under an Hausa President and Minister, NYSC would be changed to traditional Hausa fabrics Luru, and under an Igbo President and Minister, it must be igbo Akwete fabrics.

But then Nigeria is not only Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. There are over 250 other tribes in Nigeria, each with its traditional fabrics and dressing. We Niger Deltans insist wrapper must be incorporated into NYSC uniform also to avoid marginalisation.

What of the cap. Cap is a Western heritage. Caps do not represent cultural pride. The NYSC cap should be changed to Fìlà, or the Igbo tradition, Red-cap (Okpu Mmee). Why wear Adire without fìlà?
What then is the rational in changing NYSC uniform from Khaki to Adire? Is Adire more durable than Khaki? Is the uniform the problem with the NYSC scheme?

Hausa Luru NYSC uniform

They should just forget it. Leave the nysc as a paramilitary organization the Way it is.

Igbo Akwete NYSC uniform

Thereby adding more costs? They should channel those costs to corps members welfare. They even said they want to remove the parades and military drills. Essentially turning the scheme to a vacation cruise.

So, because some people pick up forms in Lagos, we should all be yorubanised? Nigerian national culture, traditions and probably language should be replaced with that of Yoruba? Maybe we should also change the name from Nigeria (which is an English name that does not represent our culture to Oduduwa Republic, because many people picking up forms in Lagos to contest elections, while coming from another regions.

A Yoruba man wrote and taught you how to read and write.

I think the current nysc outfit remains national and should be left like that. Govt can introduce reform to reflect the current reality but the uniform shouldn't be affected.

Yoruba people should understand that Presidency is no monarchy. All these will be undone by the time tilumbu leaves office.

No wonder the Ijebu will never accept that they are Yorubas. I can see what they are facing among other Yorubas in southwest.

There is no point changing the uniform. Any change will raise issues of neutrality and certainly be controversial.
