The Court of Appeal in Ibadan has overturned an earlier High Court ruling that allowed female Muslim students of the University of Ibadan International School (ISI) to wear hijab with their school uniforms.

The judgment was delivered on Friday in an appeal filed by the school’s management against the Oyo State High Court’s decision of May 22, 2024.

The legal dispute began after 11 Muslim female students sued the school, claiming their fundamental rights were violated when they were stopped from wearing the hijab as part of the school uniform.

In a split 2–1 decision, the appellate court ruled in favour of the school and set aside the earlier judgment.

Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Biobele Georgewill, supported by Justice K.I. Amadi, held that the University of Ibadan International School is a private institution and should not be treated in the same manner as public schools covered by an earlier Supreme Court ruling.

The fem in me wants to argue girls should be allowed to hijab if they want to, but what if some decide they want to hi-skirts or hi-knickers, can they walk around topless?

You choose to buy the schools product, and it's "no hijab". Shut up and pay up or go find another school!

We all know that the real people behind this case are some muslim parents. They must have forgotten that UI International is a privately run school? No court can force a private institution to make hijab part of their uniform. UI is not Unilorin.

No one is forcing anyone to put on anything. The argument is whether those that choose to use it on themselves are permitted to use it or not.

And the hijab is actually not affecting anyone including yourself. It’s not biting you. If it’s bad then those wearing it will be the one suffering from it. Not you. So all this noise about covering one’s head or not is unnecessary.

The rational behind the judgement is that private institutions can make their own rules. There is nothing emotional there. Don’t give yourself BP because of your phobia

The contention is whether or not the school is a private or public school. The Supreme Court judgement will be interesting.

It's good the court stopped their nonsense hijab and buqa. Nigeria is not Iran

Just expel the hijabi wearing ladies and save yourself the stress of court case. Going to court is a waste of time and money

Something that is worn proudly by both major faiths in Nigeria in their earliest pure roots except that one group decided to throw theirs away and even began to hate on it because of the love of the world. Moreover it is a plain denial of constitutional provision. It shall not stand. Funny how a private school uses the name "University of Ibadan International School". They should be stripped of the "University of Ibadan" part of their name to start with because that is riding on the popularity of the name of a federal institution.

Great judgement here. If the muric is approaching supreme Court of justice, they will lose their case in the supreme court

This is a good move. Take your children to Islamic school instead of "kaffirs" school. Stop crying wolf.

Can an Islamic private school allow students to dress without hijab even if he or she is a non muslim? The rule you can't accept, don't force it on others. The school is a private school and they have their set rules, take your ward to another school if you can abide by their rules.

The religion you're currently claiming is the religion of your parents, if you were born into a different family of another religion (say Hinduism), that is the exact religion you will practice.

You were born without a religion in you, your factory reset has no religion in it. If you were to be a phone and they do factory reset on you today being a phone, there will not be anything found related to religion in your settings, files and file systems anymore; you learn religion only after your birth growing up.


Islam is idolatry and paganism, Christianity aswell is idolatry - All the world religion is idolatry, including all the Abrahamic religion. Holy communion is idolatory, bowing for a stone call Kaaba of the Bedouin tribes is also idolatory, killing of rams is idolatory, kissing or licking of a stone at mecca is idolatory, throwing of stone at pilgrimage is idolatory too.

Infact, Illah is what the Arabic call God and not Allah. Allah was one of the diety been worshiped before the invention of Islam. That is why muslims will say something like "la ilah ila huwa" meaning Allah is one Illah (God). Have you ask yourself why Prophet Mohammed's father who was an idol worshiper and who lived before the invention of islam has Allah in is name Abdullai== Abdu Allah? It is because Allah has been an idol worshiped by paganists before the Prophet received his revelations.

Nakedly circumambulations of the Kaaba, annual prigrimage to mecca, kissing of black stone, bowing towards the stone (stone worship) are all preislamic pagan practises by the nomadic Bedouin tribe and the same is what they still practice today.

All Abrahamic religion are idolatory, they only package them well and condemn your heritage as evil, whereas, Nigeria was better in terms of morality, honesty and integrity before they brought the foreign religions.

In peace loving, emotional intelligence, love for neighbors, respect for sanctity of life, we are even better than those who brought those religion with primitive leaders and prophets whose morality and characters are highly questionable.

If you like, allow one illiterate alfa, imam or pastor to keep telling you "you will go to hell". When you die, your dead experience will be like the same experience you had before your conception (pregnancy) ie. There is nothing like afterlife. Or where were you before your mother gave birth to you?

If you can't wear what the school want, then find another school. Or better still, go to a pure muslim school where you can practise your belief. Or didn't the school inform you of their dress code/rules and regulations before you decide to take your kid there?

The school is actually not a Christian school, but they have no issues with every students singing praises and worship songs from Monday to Thursday on the assembly but somehow some students wanting to cover their own hair is problematic

Finally, some judges have the balls not to succumb to shenanigans.

Nice ruling it's not even safe someone with evil motives can easily hide a bomb or a gun inside those hijab to harm innocent school children.

In a kids school, everyone should look and learn alike. No differentiations on any basis. That's how it affects.
