President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed frustration over the constant abuse he faces on social media, despite his major sacrifices in the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee in Abuja, Tinubu noted that many of those criticizing him today were not involved in the pro-democracy movement that fought against military rule.

“Social media users are abusing me. I sacrificed my life for democracy when many of them were nowhere. We fought for this democracy. We endured exile, harassment and persecution so that Nigerians can enjoy the freedom they have today,” he said.

The President recalled his active role in the battle to restore democratic governance after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, during which he faced persecution and lived in exile.
He acknowledged that democracy allows for freedom of expression, including the right to criticize leaders, but stressed that many Nigerians fail to appreciate the heavy price paid by those who fought to end military rule and restore civilian government.

Go check all the so-called NADECO guys that are currently in power from the federal to the states, their democratic credentials are nothing to write home about after assuming power. They are practically running a civilian dictatorship worse than Sani Abacha. Maybe because they feel in their warped minds that the democracy we currently enjoy is theirs so they can do and undo. Running away from the country to fight the government after lobbying for a position in Sani Abacha's regime can barely be categorised as fighting for democracy. Tinubu has not even mentioned MKO since assuming power. He has always made everything about himself.
