Can someone explain to me how a country with such high levels of insecurity as Mexico ended up being the host of the World Cup

Pray for the England fans in Mexico City getting out of there unharmed

As somebody that grew up watching a golden era of Brazilian footballers, it’s actually quite sad seeing where they’re at now.

That country is football obsessed, but something has gone wrong somewhere. Where are the Ronaldos and Ronaldinhos and Cafus? That Selecao is gone.
I feel same way watching Brazil. A bit strange how they are the most regressed team of the powerhouses in South America.

Brazil players have become so unrecognizable these days. The flair and swagger associated with their play is gone. No surprise they have lost to European teams in the last 5 world cups.

Neymar and Vini Jnr are the only players that give that samba vibe...the others could pass for Polish players.

Their "insecurity" is different from ours. Those(drug cartels) causing insecurity in their country will even sponsor the hosting of the tournament because they will see it a plus as the crowd movement would help them do their businesses smoothly.

Our insecurity is caused by Islamic terrorists who view such tournament as a haram, and would seize every opportunity to wipe out every participant in the tournament to satisfy their ideology.

Depends on what you define as insecurity. Mexican cartels are like gangs in the US. If you have no business with them, they equally have no business with you.

If Mexico was really unsafe no one will be traveling there, yet it is the number one tourist destination for Americans.

Tick tock.... tick tock... tick tock... ⏳️

A big battle. A clash of 2 of my Pre-tournament top 5 favorites and 2 of my overall 12 top sides selections of favs, darkhorses and outside force.

I tip Spain to win this classic but we will see whether the football gods agree with me or not pertaining this one game involving one of the G.O.A.Ts.

Till then....
Iberian derby.

Spain is going home. Portugal can never play nonsense against Spain.

Sensational work.
I'm curious sir,...

Truth is we can host as our insecurity now is mostly in rural areas and not in cities that will host the matches.

The major issue is the media and how we project ourselves as a country. Many will also argue it’s a waste of public funds when many are hungry

Is the media also responsible for the terrible sporting infrastructure in the country?

What have we ever hosted besides youth tournaments in the past 20 years? And it honestly boggles my mind how some of you keep glossing over the fact that FIFA's hosting bar has risen sharply since Nigeria's biggest tournaments (2009 U-17 World Cup, for instance). Recent bids have shown the scale now expected. How many FIFA accredited stadiums does Nigeria have today? Just one, and that's the one in Uyo. Or you think Uyo alone can host an entire CHAN tournament, not to talk of AFCON? Citing past hosting experience without accounting for that gap in scale is comparing apples to oranges.

Anyway, my main focus was your framing of media as the problem of Nigeria hosting. Arguing that the media is ruining our hosting prospects is only tenable for image problems, not for engineering and logistical ones. FIFA and CAF inspectors don't file match reports off public sentiments. They will physically walk through your stadiums and check your pitch quality, floodlights, changing rooms, hotel capacity, road networks, airport logistics etc etc. If the infrastructure fails, no amount of "good PR" changes what an inspector notes down about your facilities.

Yeah I saw it Doc!

What makes it more impressive is that he defeated the reigning world champ.

Is my eye deceiving me or did he seem to slow down?

Kanyin will be a dependable medal outlet in the nearest future God willing.

TheSuperNerd:
In Athletics, Nigeria's Kayinsola Ajayi has done it again! 9.84secs national record.

NSC/NFF/Federal Government should give us atleast 3/4 Uyos across the federation so we can host tournaments

I think we currently have 3 fifa approved stadia in Uyo, Abeokuta and the remo stars stadium in ikenne. There is an ongoing stadium renovation in kaduna too. We can host any tournament as long as money Dey to quickly renovate all our major stadia.

Truth is govt can’t be relied upon to maintain our stadia it will take collaboration with the private sector to make that happen but for as long as sports is still seen as a social service and not a business then forget it no matter how we cry and shout.

If the coach is going to be bold enough to excuse Ronaldo on this match, Portugal will have a chance.

We have to wake up, football is experiencing a paradigm shift, worldcup powerhouses are now relinquishing their positions gradually….Brazil, Germany,Netherland,Italy(Now almost going into mediocrity extinction) and etc’s do not possess those quality players again…
From all the “Inhos” ronaldo,Dunga,Cafu, rivaldo of the mercurial Brazil to the Lahm,Klose,Kroos,Metersacker of Germany to all the “Van”, Kluivert,Davies,Robben of Netherland, to the Baggios,Romarios,Buffon,Del Piero of Italy ….This generation of Germany,Brazil,Italy,Netherland no longer strike fear again….If Messi retires Argentina will join that league(imagine a 39yrs old man leading the race of highest goals scorer, what happen to the other young Argentine players, it tells you that after Messi, you will see teams like Capeverde eliminating Argentina)
That goes to Nigeria, we have really lost our fear factor on the African soil, Morocco is taking up that mantle if we totally snooze, and so many other African nations will have the boost to wanna fight to the top
Brazil is so ordinary now that just any team can defeat them in a competitive match.
The same with Nigeria if not for the coming of Chelle, ours is better because is not for lack of talent but administrative and managerial problems.

For now,no minor can mess up with us without getting hammered, the likes of DR Congo and Cape Verde cannot be considered to be minors anymore
