An ADC chieftain and retired broadcaster, Mohammed Barde, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are afraid of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai because of his political influence.

Speaking in an interview with Trust TV on Friday, Barde claimed that El-Rufai’s legal troubles are politically motivated rather than purely judicial.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, is scared of Nasir, very, very scared of him. People in government are scared of Nasir. He has become an enigma to the APC and the Presidency, they don’t want him to be free, and that’s why they are keeping him there,” Barde said.

He argued that other former governors accused of more serious offences remain free, while El-Rufai is facing prosecution, which he said suggests political persecution.

When asked why other prominent opposition politicians like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have not been subjected to similar legal proceedings, Barde insisted that El-Rufai’s case is exceptional because of his political significance.

I believe Nasir is in this situation because the President and all the people in the APC are scared of him,” he added.

The retired broadcaster also claimed that El-Rufai played a significant role in the political emergence of President Tinubu and other national figures, arguing that his contributions have not been acknowledged.

Tilumbu has dug too many pits trying to forcefully elevate his voter base.

Unfortunately all he had to do was do meaningful work that will affect the daily lives of Nigerians.

You can’t just bully your way to Presidency with poor governance.

2027 is still inevitable whether or not Tinubu releases Mallam. If I made you president after publicly begging me to and then vowed to unmake you and you quickly moved to use the power I bequeathed you to incarcerate me without bail, what does that make you? A master strategist or a car-ward? That is the story between Tinubu and Elrufai. Their joke would have been even funnier if they managed to triumph inspite of Elrufai. For now, they appear to be choosing the carwardly route. Akin to disqualifying every other candidate and opposition party and then declaring victory. Ribadu is the new darling now just as Elrufai was in 2023. You all will quickly switch up on him and attempt to rewrite history if Tinubu drops him tomorrow. No be una again?

Elrufai spoke publicly condemning Tinubu many times. and all of a sudden the person his begging not to travel out and stay to join him in his government when he wins...and Elrufai the baby poltician and the whole north believed that and have been holding on to that? .... una no really sabi this politics...the north has always been over rated

Maybe. Maybe not. In the North, we hold a man to his words. Word is bond and that's how you know an honourable man. Winning is not enough. How you win matters more to Northerners. The North lives by the concept of "Amana". It's the same reason an "aboki" would handover his goods to you with the trust that you will pay back tomorrow. That's the only reason why Tinubu got 5.6m Northern votes in the first place after Obi dusted him in the South but time is a gentleman. Posterity is what remains long after we are all gone and that matters to the North more than any single perceived victory.

Bring any evidence where Elrufai claimed he cannot be arrested. This is not the first time Elrufai will be arrested by the way. You all see the arrest of Elrufai like a trophy and it's funny how surprised you are that the North didn't protest his arrest. Obasanjo and even Buhari had been arrested in the past. Did the SW or Norrh protest? Did it change their destinies? If you beg a man practically on your knees yesterday and then arrest him after gaining power tomorrow, how does that make you a hero?

BTW, the wife of Elrufai never begged Tinubu, they simply asked him to let justice take its course instead of using justice as a weapon. The fight is between two men, not their spouses.
