Argentina still leads 1-0 vs Switzerland in the final Quarters encounter.

Messi Assist. MCAllister goal. The Swiss have more of the ball.

44mins played.

TheSuperNerd:
This is a superficial view because I was very analytical in my picks. And 12 out of 48 of which all 12 made the Knockouts and all of them (except just one) being knocked out by teams that progressed further in my list or teams in the semis in my list shows I carefully picked a solid 12 and an IronClad Top 5.

It had 12 teams because I had a breakdown that included sides I picked as darkhorses and outside force aside the my clear top 5.

If I was doing random guesswork, 3 of the teams I clearly picked as Top 5 favorites wont be in the semis. That 3 of them are in the semis and make my top 5 favs shows you my picks are still very much spot on, chosen from a place of careful pretournament analysis and were determined/posted before the WC began. I kept to the list. It never changed.

So perhaps you should have made your own list and see how well it fares. grin
Well I disagree with the bolded haha. The probability that 3 of 5 can be due to chance is approximately 9% which in my opinion is very high. You’re kinda right though, maybe I should have made my own list lol. We all know you’re very analytical but on this one, it does appear that you played safe cheesy

Again, this is superficial waterdown talk. I did not see you come out and talk all this while when I made the list pre-tournament and was updating the progress from the first K.O. rounds, but you come out now because my list is turning out alright as we enter the semifinals. That says more about you.

Brazil, Netherlands and Morocco were my personal 3 favorites at this WC yet none of them made my Top 5 favs list. I non-sentimentally placed them as darkhorses and outside force.

Colombia and Japan are solid teams yet I had my analytical reasons for not picking them at all.

Since you are so good at probability analyses, you could have put out your list instead of mumbling over mine. The person who played safe is you for not even putting up a list at all. grin

The Swiss have had the ball and had 2 shots on target but are yet to really trouble Argentina. That 10th min goal from McAllister really stunned them.

I am sure the Swiss did not expect Messi and company to get on the scoresheet that early. So far so good for the Reigning World Champions so far.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:29am On Jul 12
For the first time on 64mins, the Swiss have now looked like a team that can hurt the Argentines. They came really close. And after that, they followed it up with a Xhaka strike, which Martinez had to parry before gathering.

Argentina and this their stupid tactic of sitting back after scoring a goal 🤦🏽‍♂️

Embolo, what kind of nonsense dive was that? Now you have a second yellow.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:35am On Jul 12
Embolo, foolishly, I think I can say, just got himself sent off for stimulation. Paredes was not even close to him and he fell like he was shot!!!

Kaaaiii... What sort of silliness is that??

Swiss should have subbed this boy off long ago
But then again as long as it's Argentina, the VAR will always scream review

This Argentina team, except they improve, they can't draw any of the 3 teams that have qualified for the semis. And the coach playing 4 midfielders and only 1 striker is killing the team individual abilities. Either Parades or De Paul should be sacrifice for a striker if they qualify for the semis
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:40am On Jul 12
Vargas and Okafor had to sit on the bench for this foolishness to happen. Embolo is so so silly.

Either there was a var review or not, was the second yellow for Embolo justified? Or you didn't hear the commentator countlessly said it's the new law for this WC?

He's foolishly playing a 4-4-2 with Messi and Alvarez up front. If he wants to play a 4-4-2, then play Lautaro and Alvarez up front with Messi behind them.

The Argentine midfield is too flat. Mac Allister, Enzo and De Paul have been so disappointing.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:42am On Jul 12
Oh wait... let me even indulge this... Did Embolo meet Dr. Strange? Is this the only way they can beat the World Champions? Final result go tell.

God bless you
Mac Allister and Enzo are midfielders that can hold their own against any other midfielders in the world but at this WC, they have been playing like a sub par Etebo. It's even Parades that has been doing all the running for them. Play Messi behind Alvarez and Martinez and pair Messi in the midfield with Parades, Allister, Enzo or De Paul

They look so clueless. It's obvious the comebacks against Cape Verde and Egypt definitely took a toll on them. They're exhausted.

Honestly, I'm just happy that Messi has performed well at this World Cup. As for Argentina as a team, they're just so poor.

Yeah, they have been poor and hardly dominate team but I still feel with the right formation and tactics, players to players, they can hold their own against any other countries. Lisandro Martinez and Romero are beast, goalkeeper Martinez is one of the best in the world, Mac Allister and Enzo are above average, Striker Martinez and Alvarez are some of the best strikers in the world. On the bench, they are another beast in Otamendi, Sensei, Barco, Paz, Le Celso, etc are good, Someone is decent, etc. I just feel it's the coach setup and tactics that has been limiting them at this WC
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:57am On Jul 12
Argentina throwing everything at the Swiss. Still 3-4 mins of added time left. 1-1 still.

Messi even had to use his right foot to pull off a strike.

You're right. With the players they have, they shouldn't be struggling against Switzerland but when you have a coach who tells you to sit back and defend after scoring one goal, you're bound to invite unnecessary pressure on yourself and concede. It's the same problem Japan and Netherlands faced with their coaches.

You are a Swiss Defender. You have not played a single minute of this WC but have now been thrown into this game, replacing Ricardo Rodriguez, to hold off the Argentine onslaught.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you just met Eray Comert of Valencia. 😆
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 4:05am On Jul 12
Up next is Extra time. 30mins for Argentina to find a winner or for the Swiss to hang on or maybe stun Argentina?

The latter option seems unlikely at this point though.

It's crazy how Argentina have a tricky winger in Almada who can cut in and shoot yet Scaloni preferred a 4-4-2 with Alvarez and Messi up front.
