Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged popular Nigerian musicians, including Asake, Burna Boy and Davido, to channel part of their wealth into charitable causes, saying they should establish foundations and support vulnerable Nigerians instead of focusing solely on luxury lifestyles.

Mrs Tinubu made the appeal on Saturday during the launch of the National Community Food Bank in Kogi State, where she encouraged entertainers and other wealthy Nigerians to complement government efforts to reduce poverty through philanthropy.

She cited Senegalese-American singer Akon as an example of a celebrity known for humanitarian work and urged Nigerian artistes to emulate him by establishing foundations or expanding their charitable activities.

According to the First Lady, although there is nothing wrong with owning luxury vehicles, affluent Nigerians should also use part of their wealth to assist struggling citizens because the burden on government remains enormous.

“I want to appeal to our young ones in the entertainment industry. I’ve mentioned it before, and I will use Akon, a music icon who does a lot of great charity work, as an example. Asake, Burna Boy, Davido, we want to see you with one foundation or the other, helping the poor with your money. Good cars are good. A Maybach is good, Rolls Royce is good, but still, you can help. The burden on the government is huge. There are pepper sellers, vegetable sellers, there are okro sellers, melon sellers, akara sellers, kuli-kuli sellers,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu also highlighted small-scale businesses as viable means of earning a living, citing the example of people who sell pepper, vegetables, okra, melon, akara and kuli-kuli.

She recalled reading about a graduate in Abuja who turned to selling akara after being unable to secure employment and said support was later provided to help expand the business.

According to her, the entrepreneur now employs 12 workers and is doing well.

“Akara is delicious. I can tell you that. There was once I read an article about a young graduate who said he didn’t get a job. He said he sells akara because he couldn’t get a job. And he is in Abuja. We approached him, but I didn’t put my name to it. We equipped him more, and now he has 12 workers working under him, and he’s doing very well,” she added.

The First Lady’s latest remarks come weeks after she advised Nigerian women to embrace small businesses such as selling akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s economic empowerment programme.

They should remind her that WAEC and NECO forms are now, #50,000.00 and that taxpayers' money has been used to buy luxurious vehicles for her and the federal lawmakers in billions without remembering the poor in our midst. Tell her to let the husband stop withdrawal of funds for just funds transfers from people's bank account.

Tinubu and his wife are really out to make the life of Nigerians miserable. But Ibadan media painted patience Jonathan as Jezebel but this one is worst.

Come 2027, Tinubu and his family will be sent packing. Chai

I 've always said that people ought to be more scared of remi than tunubu, the woman is "frozen hearted"

While she and her families are cruising and valling hard on tax payers money for decades now, she's busy asking private citizens who were able to break their jinx and attained certain standard of life, to cut short their lifestyle in order to do the job that she and her families fought dirty to grab?

Men, its the nerve for me. Who are these people taking Nigerians for?.

The burden is much on the government, so burna boy, davido and co should come to their aid. How has Nigeria government helped those names in any way? The biy that was killed in Delta state was said to be into music, there's every possibility he could have become another asake, burna or wizkid, we all know what happened. Till date, we don't know if anything happened to the person behind it.

ST rolls around with exotic entourage, same as every member of her family, charity they say begins at home, RMT.

I'm aware that there was a time in this Nigeria when previous first ladies had sponsored family planning awareness programs.
The APC administration has abandoned the idea of family planning and is now looking for people to do charity in order to control their inadequacies

Should you not change your moniker to beHated?

It’s your type of unseriousness that makes a useless hypocrite like Remi Tinubu and her master strategist husband empower us to sell akara, while they use our taxes and borrow money to buy luxury cars and other luxury goods for themselves.

Sell akara because her husband is clueless about creating the jobs he promised.

Will you ever redeem yourself from your Stockholm Syndrome situation huh

chisomkachy:
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.

The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.

Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.

Tinubu sets 3-year economic revival, 50million jobs target

August 29, 2023

President Bola Tinubu who reiterated his commitment to economic revatalisation said he will not permit indolence or any act capable of derailing his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ by any of his ministers.

He gave a marching order to the 45-member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to perform or be ready to be fired for incompetence.

Edun said the Tinubu administration inherited a bad economy with an unacceptable high rate of unemployment, and with inflation standing at 24%.

He said:“Per capital has fallen steadily, inflation is at 24 percent, unemployment is high, you know m are rebasing the way in which it’s calculated. Either way, it is high and youth unemployment is even unacceptably high, these are the key metrics that we have met.”
@

Edun said: “Clearly, *the Federal Government is not in a position to borrow at this time*. Rather, the emphasis has to be on creating a stable, macroeconomic environment. Stable inflation, stable exchange rate, an environment within which people can come and invest and thereby increase production and further grow the economy; Improve and create jobs and reduce poverty.

Anite said President Tinubu was planning to create 50 million jobs.

She stressed: “In Mr. President’s manifesto during his campaigns, he promised 50 million jobs and that’s our target. We will take it in phases; we are looking at different sectors of the economy that will contribute to this job creation chief among them is the creative industry and the digital economy, and then the agric sector, agro-processing zones, and mining, oil and gas. So we’re very confident that we will achieve this.”
