We had two athletes at the finals of the men's 10m Seoul Olympics. We held Africa sprints male and female by the jugular. Olapade, the Ezenwa Brothers, chidi Imoh, innocent Egbunike, Mary Onyali. Fatima Yusuf. Chioma Ajunwa, falilat Ogunkoya, Yusuf Ali, Sunday Bada, we produced a lot. I don't think we are producing as many as we did then. Thank God for Kanyin, Tobi Amusan and I think one young dude doing 400m or is it hurdles now. The NSC needs to sit up. What happened to our table tennis dominance (Atanda Musa, Yomi Bankole, bose Kafo, aruna Quadri, module oshunnake etc).

Chidi Imoh, Innocent Egbunike,Yusuf Ali are senior ones to Mary Onyali, Olapade Adenekan,Falilat Ogunkoya,Fatima Yusuf...oh late Sunday Bada na another big brother to me,he lived with his senior sister in our four flats,went to Saint Anthony secondary school Ilorin,joined police force to pursue his sports career.

In the 80s,there was real sports development.In the 80s some secondary schools represented Nigeria in youth international tournaments to tell you how solid we are in grassroots development.

Cherubim and Seraphim College(C&S)Ilorin had the opportunities to represent Nigeria in Finland,Sweden and Canada,the school principal Mr Akintola nearly turned the school to sports school cuz you must do one sport or else you out of the school...the school produced top class athletes for Nigeria,great Nigeria table tennis players were products of C&S Ilorin,also Saint Anthony College Ilorin.

Good that our athletes are back,hope they maintain the forms cuz when it matters most they always fumbled...kudos to Chioma Ajuwa.

The clash between Adenekan Olapade and American sprinter Dennis Mitchell didn't occured in Olympics but in 1994 meet in Zurich..the incident also involved Dennis Mitchell junior brother,it happened in hotel with Adenekan received stitches on his face later in the hospital and returned home.

Talent spotting and grooming was really good in the 80s and early 90s but poor administration really sabotaged what could have been a golden generation of athletics.

The emergence of Kanyin and Ogazi alongside our ever reliable sprint Queen Tobi gives me hope that we are entering our best ever era of athletic competition.
