Opay, Ease Cash Dribble Lagos Resident Whose ₦52,280 Can’t Be Accounted For by AnonPoet(op): 8:14am On Jul 19
Dotun Usman (real name withheld), a Lagos resident, paid N52,280 via his OPay account on June 29 to offset a loan he took from Ease Cash, but neither financial institution can account for the whereabouts of the money.

Usman told FIJ on Friday that he took a loan of N80,000 from Ease Cash on June 17, and he was to repay a total of N106,680 in two instalments. So, he decided to pay the first instalment on June 29, a day before the initial repayment was due.

“I paid the first instalment using my OPay virtual debit card, which is linked to the loan app. I decided to pay on time to avoid harassment,” Usman disclosed.

However, he said, while the money was deducted from his OPay account, the payment did not reflect on his dashboard on the loan app.

He sent the payment deduction receipt to the loan company around 10 am on June 29 to know why the loan amount had not been adjusted on his dashboard, but he was told that the payment was not found.

“I contacted OPay’s customer service, but they said the transaction was successful and that I should contact the merchant, Ease Cash. When I contacted Ease Cash, they said my payment was not found,” the Lagos resident said.

When he went back to OPay, the fintech company insisted that the transaction was successful. At the same time, the loan company claimed that no record was found for the payment.

“I requested a correspondence from Ease Cash to share with OPay that the fund was not received, but Ease Cash refused to give an official correspondence,” he said.

Usman told FIJ that when the June 29 repayment did not reflect, he had to make another payment of N53,240 on June 30, the due date for the first instalment.

He said the loan company offers a discounted interest rate to customers who repay before the due date, but because his initial payment could not be accounted for, he lost the discount and was forced to pay again.

“I made this payment after the initial payment did not reflect, and the due date was close. The loan recovery guys were already calling, and to avoid embarrassment, I had to pay. At this time, the discount for early repayment had already been taken off,” he said.

Also, instead of waiting until July 14 before paying the second instalment, he made another payment on July 3, and an early repayment discount was applied. So, instead of N53,000, he paid N51,520.

Now that he has cleared the loan, the N52,280 that was deducted from his OPay account on June 29 has not been reversed, and neither OPay nor Ease Cash has been able to help him recover it.

FIJ sent emails and WhatsApp messages to EaseCash and OPay on Friday. While EaseCash did not respond to the WhatsApp message, it replied via email, requesting the customer’s registered phone number, even though the information had already been included in FIJ’s initial email.

OPay, on the other hand, responded via WhatsApp:

“Kindly be informed that I am unable to provide information regarding the transaction you are inquiring about, as you are a third party to the transaction. If you require further details, please contact the original transaction initiator, who can provide additional information or reach out to us directly for further assistance.”

On Sunday afternoon, Usman told FIJ that neither institution had contacted him or provided any update on the missing payment.

The money got to ease cash but the wanted to disqualify the debtor from the discount.
And now they are using his money for business. They'll eventually return the money though.

These loan apps are criminals, they need to be banned by the government. As if the crazy interest is not bad enough, they're now making loan payments not reflect, what type of criminal behaviour is this? Little wonder new ones keep popping up every other day. The government must do something about this.

I guess this should be an Opay gateway payment routed with your card or account to facilitate payment with the merchant.
1 step, report the said transaction to opay which will In turn make confirmation. Which means it was successful but merchant didn't receive value. In most cases it takes 3-5days either the merchant gets value or you get payment.
Secondly. Obtain a correspondance, for instance, just a simple screenshot of the mail from Ease cash stipulating the transaction failed and you should visit your bank for charge back will do the magic. Once you get the correspondence. A correspondence can either be the mail received from Ease cash or any evidence stipulating the didn't receive the value. vist the closest opay office or reach out to their other channels with the screenshot . Most often, you'd get a refund.

I still have a loan am yet to repay to okash or whatever even though there is money in my opay account. Opay are really truthful and honest to there customers. They won't touch your account if you own loan, but the interest will add up daily. You can use opay to pay for goods you buy on AliExpress directly without any issues. I see ease cash as the issue here

that money has yet to ease cash, they just want him to keep paying. I get a loan from okash, and I don't pay for upto 3month and opay don't touch the money in my account, reason I don't pays back on time is to see if opay will touch the money in my account as people assume, but no dey don't. I even now use my opay to shop on AliExpress, and my goods will be delivery within a week's.

Central bank would have resolved the problem but the guy in question doesn't know this. I usually resolve issues like this by informing the both institutions that I'm forwarding a mail with the transaction receipts to CBN. Dem dey fear CBN like say tomorrow nuh dey
