It beats me,
If Messi were favored by FIFA to win right from the draw and group matches as claimed by some of our emotional analysts, why do they have to give Argentina a red card going to extra time? And also denied him his well deserved golden ball award.
It's why I found the "football won" funny.

All the agenda to crown Messi the GOAT over Pele is dead now. Perished forever. Coz I know that is where this 2026 World Cup was headed to in the bigger frame of things. He remains slightly behind Maradona even in Argentine football history not to mention Pele himself.
C.Ronaldo as the GOAT is also not a discussion at all for even he knows Pele still reigns over all in football history even when he eventually hits 1000 goals (Pele already touched 1,279 compiled in the World Records books). Pele... The one player every Great admits was near godlike, onfield. From Beckanbauer to Cruyff to Eusebio to Best to Charlton to Platini and more...

Pele remains the GOAT of GOATs. The Greatest of the Greatest of Footballers. The One and Only god of Football. O Rei they call him... He still reigns supreme and never ever needed FIFA or dubious officiating to win 3 world cups.

He won as the youngest to ever do it. He won it as the youngest to ever score in a WC final. He won it as the only one to win it 3 times. He won it back to back too. Beyond his 3 WCs, he was and still is the most complete footballer in human history. Left foot, Right foot, Heading, Skills, Tekkers, Vision, Creativity, Playmaking, Workrate, Defensive output, setpiece mastery, finisher, Orchestrator, Dribbler (Even though the greatest dribbler in football remains Garrincha) and many more traits.

🔥Reign on, Edson Arantes Dos Nascimento. The reason why all these big ballers wearing #10 today actually wear #10. because Before Pele, #10 was not symbolic. But with him and after him, even Maradona came to be known as the #10. All others have followed also.

Hate the truth, love the truth... na you sabi but Pele as the One True GOAT remains inevitably eternal.
personally hate comparing players across era because there’s no basis for comparison but genuinely how is Messi below Maradona? Maradona has nothing over Messi so how is he above him?

Maradona isn't. Winning at a younger age isn't a point, neither is "he had more charisma" nor the nostalgia of an emotional country winning a WC after losing the Falkland war to England.

The thing he did with Napoli is the only thing Messi didn't do. But meh, winning Leagues cup with Inter Miami is not small too.

I wonder how Ronaldo feels watching a small boy of yesterday, Yamal lift the world cup trophy. Something he can only dream about. sad
Dream of lifting World Cup? He should dream of scoring a knock out goal that’s not a penalty

The propaganda is very annoying. I couldn't give a damn about Argentina but why the exaggeration and hypocrisy?

Rodri faced Uruguay, Portugal, Belgium, France and then the final vs Argentina which they completely dominated vs Messi and co.

Please which teams did Messi come up against? The only true solid side they faced was England and Tuchel bleeped it up.
Switzerland are decent but the red card did them in. Still not as solid as Belgium, Portugal or France faced by Rodri and Spain.

And I already dropped a whoscored report on Rodri. Feel free to visit the sites yourself and get the ratings. If this is hard for you to understand then I cant help you.
Switzerland played better football than Belgium this tournament

Possessive philosophy ≠ tiki taka

Like we've argued before, possession football didn't begin with Guardiola. Sacchi don de do possessive philosophy since 90s. Capello was Pep's coach at one time.

Italy emphasizes hard men, elegant 10, pragmatism and results. That's a National Team that lost out on this WC because it leaked in goals. Do you think it's Pep ball they are looking for?
Let me be more elaborate. Possession heavy. That is what I class Tiki Taka. Yes, Arrigo Sacchi played a possessive style but it is not as possession heavy as what the Guardiola school of thought needs.

If the Italian FA is looking into Guardiola, it means they are prepared for change and a deviation from their ways to accept a different school of thought.

What is most important is that from the International, to the club football, possession heavy style (Tiki Taka) is dominating. Unless you can point to a more effective dominant style.

2030 World Cup Will Be 64 Teams Not 48 - CONMEBOL President

CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez has announced that the 2030 FIFA World Cup will have 64 participating teams, not 48.

He also adds that the kickoff of the tournament will be in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay in commemoration of the World Cup's centennial, after which it will move to the main venues in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

Messi, a player at 39 that singlehandedly carried an almost average Argentine team to the final and even made headlines throughout the tournament deserves to win the award. You guys are saying all this because he lost in the final.

Messi clearly deserves to win it.
Whether Messi was old is not the point. The point is Rodri produced one of the best masterclasses in the history of the world cup. Making such an impact from the defensive midfield role is amazing.

Actually, Maradona and Pele navigated a lot of tackles that Messi wouldn't survive in today's football. 😂😂😂

Smh. Well, first of all, we saw this coming. At least we now have some sort of confirmation.

We never talk 48 teams finish, we don dey talk 64. I understand this World Cup was successful but come on. 32 teams was honestly the sweet spot but it seems we're never getting back to that at this point.

Secondly, if Nigeria cannot qualify for this tournament, we may need to ban football from the country totally. Make everybody go rest.

It is this tiki taka that I said earlier will be difficult for them to accept. Italy has indigenous coaches that play possession football without losing Italian identity.

But oh well let's wait and see.

Tournament hosting effectively belongs to an exclusive few or a multi country hosting henceforth.

On the bright side, countries can share the financial burden, and no more fairytale second chance nonsense. However we'd rue the drop of quality of the tournament since minnows will become a regular feature. The 32 team format was the best.

At least Nigeria will be qualifying regularly.
