Flying Eagles list by positions

Since all reports of the U20 Flying Eagles list did not do justice to the positions/roles of the players on the list... I decided to help out based on my info regarding each player (note that a few like Manneh listed in attack could also play in midfield as a #10)

Here we are below....

Goalkeepers (GKs)

#1 Clinton Lawani
#16 Rufai Abubakar
#23 Aminu Yusuf

Defenders (DFs)

#2 Olayemi Ayinla
#3 Wahab Musa
#5 Odinaka Alfred
#12 Saifullahi Yusuf
#13 Israel Joseph Samuel
#22 Gift Subi Ebitimi

Midfielders (MFs)

#10 Habila Simeon
#6 Somto Nnoli
#14 Sani Ibrahim Shuaibu
#15 Oraro Apini Lucky
#17 Auwal Muhammad
#7 Samson Joshua

Forwards (FWs)

#9 Abdoulaye Agbeloye (Agbejoye)
#20 Abdulmuiz Adeleke
#11 Imrana Mohammed
#18 Jamilu Yusuf
#19 Adamu Hussaini
#21 Abdullahi Ele
#4 Agbonjimi Timilehin
#8 Ebrima Manneh

NB: The list has has 3 Foreign Pros listed. But I would count 4 bcoz Ebrima Manneh (Gambo-Nigerian) recently got signed by Czech side, SK Ceske Budejovice.

🚨 Super Eagles land rising star.....

A major boost could be on the way for Nigeria...

Reports indicate that Al-Ittihad striker George Ilenikhena has agreed to represent the Super Eagles after productive talks with head coach Eric Chelle.....

The 19-year-old, born in Nigeria and raised in France, is reportedly set to strengthen Nigeria's attacking options alongside Victor Osimhen.....

Since he has never featured for France at any level, he would be eligible to play for Nigeria immediately if selected.....

A potential debut in September's AFCON qualifiers could mark the start of an exciting new era.... 🇳🇬🦅

I am not trying to be tribal here but the truth must be told. The best Nigerian football players are usually from the South South Southeast and to lesser extent SW. Delta State, Edo State, Lagos State Enugu and Imo State tend to produce alot of talent. Whenever I see a Nigerian team list filled up with Northern sounding names I tend to lower my expectations.
A simple question, for the last decade, the SE has been made up of majority Easterners, but what have we achieved? We have missed 2 WCs back to back and we have not won the WC. Just say Edo and Delta mostly and leave out the Easterners because they only dominate the SE squad without contributing anything meaningful.

It is what it is really.

To be fair Northern hubs like Kaduna and Jos produce decent talent but you're right that the SE/SS tend to produce 55-60% of our best followed by SW, North and other parts of Nigeria.

The bottom line which I agree with you wholeheartedly is always field your best players whether they all come from one village in the SE, SS, or North.

EElopa:
We like to lie to ourselves in Nigeria. I just mentioned parts of the country that best Nigerian players come from. I am pan African to the core and if the best Nigerians players comes from Borno it will not mean a darm it to me as long as they are the best players. If an American coach present a basketball team filled up with white players most logical people will question if they are really the best players in the country because data suggests that the best basketball players in the country tend to come from black urban neighborhoods.

Continue deceiving yourself. Go and look at Nigerian youth teams that actually performed at the world stage and tell me where the vast majority of the players came from. They were mostly from the SS and SE. Whenever i see a nigerian youth teams with edo sounding names. Delta sounding names and igbo sounding names i usually feel good abouth that team. Before you accuse me of coming from the southeast I am from Akwa Ibom state. We need to start telling ourselves the truth in Nigetia.

George Ilenikhena is just one out of the few new names/young quality players/personnel I was referring to from a discrete post ahead of September/October window.

He is coming home but he is not alone. Chelle is gunning for more.

💯👊

Since the core of our youth team players having been picked from a particular region we haven’t achieved anything tangible in Africa or even made it to the global stage for some time now.

The regions that have provided talents to our cadet teams are the SW,SS and SE and 40%-50% of these players mostly ends up in the super eagles and top leagues in the world

If person talk am em mouf no go bend. As I see the list self my mind comot for the team. They may come back to prove me wrong though this time around

Not surprised you don't know what a decade means, after all you be olodo otherwise you would have known that 2014-2018 is part of the last decade. grin

Na just say if I decide to enter a friendly banter here, it will end up going the tribal way but since an SE striker left the scene we have not won the AFCON and neither have we gone past the group stage of the world cup (2018 Ighalo). As you said, our strike chief that was supposed to deliver opps make we chop glory in 2022 and now this 2026 matters na Osimhen oo. grin

Call me tribalistic, I don't give a flying fak, once I see list and I don't the see the Okonkwos, Ewekas/Oghenes/Torus and then the babatundes, I no dey put my mind to it. Since they brought their stupid tribalism to our youth team we haven't done anything meaningful.

You know so well that naturally I would have replied you as you expected, but because I also don't want it to end up becoming a tribal banter, I will ignore you.
Ighalo is Esan from Edo State.
What's a strike chief?

Francis Onyeka needs switch if he eventually agrees as you know but one of the scouts assures me he and Chelle are still on it.

Lesley is ours. Whether he makes the Sept/Oct list, time go tell. grin

You must understand, these guys will keep trusting me with info as long as I stay discrete. I can talk freely on George now because I was informed the deal is done and he is coming home.

Chelle now follows Ilenikhena on IG and Ilenikhena follows Chelle too. So new recruitment #1 is done.

I'm from the SE but to be fair, some of the best talents from the East that have played for Nigeria were born, raised or trained in the North, especially Jos. The North have talented ballers, but they just struggle to hone that raw skill by going abroad like their counterparts from the South. Right now most of the most exciting Nigerian players coming up are from the North...the likes of Mubarak, Zadok, Bewene, Suleiman Sani etc are all from the North.

To be fair, the north SEEMS to be investing heavily on football these days, and I hope they succeed eventhough I don't really rate them highly for now. They always flatter to deceive.

About Eastern origin players bred in the north, they have nothing on players bred in the east. Their best is Mikel, Nsofor and Babayaro but they are dwarfed by Okocha, Kanu, Okechukwu etc

I hate to go tribal especially with football but our 3 AFCONs were heavily influenced by Easterners...1980 AFCON winning team was captained by Christian Chukwu, the 1994 win was all from the individual brilliance of Amunike who bagged a brace to save us a humiliating defeat to Zambia who scored first, 2013 was all a Sunday Mbah show. Even our successful youth wins from U17-U23 were heavily influenced by Easterners and then players from the Bendel region (Edo and Delta), and SW in that order.

I love that we're now seeing an emergence of talented players from the North, the likes of Zadok, Bewene, Ahmed, Mubarak, Suleiman Sani, Hafiz Umar etc massively give me hope for what the North is cooking...it will be good for Nigerian football if the North become the new talent pool for our football honestly, cause I've always believed the most hard working players always come from the North, they've just been unlucky not to get the same exposure as their counterparts from the South, but it seems all that is changing now with more Northern players going to Europe at a young age.

You make great point about fantastic SE origin players being groomed in the North. Mikel and Celestine Babayaro come to mind.

The little believe I had in northern players was killed by Musa Yahaya. I loved him so much, only for him to turn out to be a flash in the pan.

From these players you listed here, only Zadok is the one I rate. All these una Bewene this and Bewene that, I no follow oo. grin
