Hi friends, after six months, I finally finished building this forum from the scratch. It features a lot of things. Being a Nairaland member, there have always been what I wanted to see in a forum, rather than bugging the forum master here, I built mine.

1. Forums (real discussions).
2. Daily News (you can subscribe to many type and it'll be delivered).
3. Modern anti-tribalism, anti-slurs. You won't get banned..your post wouldn't just be seen. So the forum stays clean always.
4. RichText
5. @tagging system.
6. #hashtags
7. Daily News By State, country etc.
8. Movies (stream movies in-app..legally, no piracy).
9. Modern follow system (you can follow people, tags, your state).
10. Messenger.
11. Modern alert system.
12. Tips system.
13. Wallet. You can send money to fellow users.
14. Like system, dislike, bookmark, co-sign (like retweet), co-sign and quote (like retweet and quote).
15. Marketplace with escrow.
16. Games (real money stakes).
17. CBT/professional exams mock for students
18. Modern dating section.
19. See current prices of goods and services live.
20. See University cutoff marks life and payment structure across Nigeria for students.
21. Create pages
22. Create groups
23. Installable as native app on Android and iOS with Push Notifications

My inspiration came from Nairaland, Twitter, Facebook, Trust pilot, Facebook Dating, and the Nigerian audience.

I'm building sth that fits Nigerians and is free to use...an all in one place.

Timeline
So I am also trying to implement a timeline feature that's both Lite and efficient. It's been hectic so far and returning a lot of errors because my native structure is topic and post but I want the timeline to be direct posts without the topic headers.. emulating the normal modern timelines... 24hrs option, pinning a place, vibes, voicenotes, etc.

Hashtagging
Was syncing a lot of foreign tags. Since I am basically focusing on Nigeria, I made edits to filter mostly Nigerian trending topics. Also afford an international option.

I took my time to implement a very strong flagging system against slurs, tribalism, scams, and etc...no matter how the sentence is coded. If one posts anything like that, others wouldn't see it. it will be flagged...until they respond meaningfully. So, while freedom of speech is allowed, I am concerned about people having quality time not reading rubbish.

I love the UI too. Can you make that category list on the home page an accordion? It's taking a long space before the featured news - personal opinion sha, the person can click on View category and then it expands.

Well done, if you're excited about it being just a side project, I'd suggest you get helping hands, you could build a healthy competition and grow the platform in due time.

Are these already active or still being tested? Once people can keep and transfer money, a single incorrect balance update or a delayed withdrawal can create a serious trust problem. The wallet should have a proper transaction history, and users’ money should remain separate from the platform’s operating funds.

Also, your idea of automatic flagging makes sense for posts, but I would not let it automatically block wallets. Any financial restriction should go through a human review with a clear appeal option imho

I removed stakes from Games for now. It is free.
For the financials, we are letting a registered financial company handle everything for us. We review only for value received, yes...this is cos of some Nigerian Laws impending.
For the flagging, it is just for posts, comments.

However 40 featured posts on homepage is too much for me. 15 - 20 at most then you can add and spots in tiles in-between.

Yeah I think you are right on the featured posts count. However, overtime on my scrutiny of visitors, I realised a lot of visitors only sweep through the featured posts for daily News and etc. While some subscribes to Nigerian States peculiar to them. So I think making the default 20 is ok with good pagination but also making it user-side to decide how many they want to see on their device (15, 20, 30, 40) on their user preference setting.

I have two others already managing it with me. Also, I built my auto-moderation system to be smart, active 24/7, disciplined, and Nigerian. Yes, very Nigerian.

I delegated most of the big works to it; the sorting process, the delivery of latest content per states, per country, per board, every part that really doesn't require human presence since that's where the most work lies so that human moderators do more of reviews.

Since I built the auto-moderation myself, I am confident in its delivery..even tho we are still testing and upgrading it with time as the forum grows.

For example, the tool is strong against slurs, tribalism, scams, spams, etc., with an ultra modern flagging system (it is a new concept I built where you really don't have to get banned but your post or comment wouldn't just be seen but blurred until you fix it. Also, there is a 'community reporting' so that the majority (never false positives) flag posts too. It doesn't mean a banning system doesn't exist. It does and repeated offenders undergo punitive measures until it leads to a ban..or a period break of readjusting and promising not to repeat the same process that led to the ban or getting a permanent ban.

I think it's a sense of responsibility being added so that when User A thinks of the stress in writing a tribal post and realises it wouldn't be seen and the ragebait useless, they'd be forced to be decent). Or a scammer coding his text in Nigerian text tricks and realising the system still understands no matter the format used. It's a long-term project where I am focusing on users who want a serene environment and a place they can control their space.

Yes, it's still in the infant stage but I also didn't know it would be growing this fast. For sth I built as a hobby, I am very impressed.
