In countries where the citizens are valued, there's always something for everyone, no matter their level.
Parks, beaches, and all.

Not in a country like Nigeria where waterfronts are being sold to private businesses as if they created the beaches.

The worst part is that the citizens have been made to believe and have accepted that they have no right to the beauty of nature, because "they're poor".
So sad!

This place was built in the 1980s, around Ibeju-Lekki, very good place for corporate meetings and get away those days. Before some people came back from Chicago to develop Lagos.

True, it started in the '80s, but it was located at Ikeja that time (Toyin Street, I think). It moved to Lekki mid/late 90s.

Bar Beach used to be nice until owomida and touts rubbished the place. It may be nice now but give it a couple of years before the riff-raff comes.

Majority of people in this Platform have always proven that they are not well traveled in the country. Some can't even point were Kebbi, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe or even Uyo on the Nigerian Map. Some will need A.i search or google to know were Damaturu, Potiskum, Gboko, Jalingo, Taraku, Garaku, Bali, Ikom, Brass etc. I can go on and on

You people should stop saying this rubbish all the time.

Majority of you have never ever visited an IDP camp or even know where one is before, but keep talking about Kidnappers & Bandits.

Majority of your type online have only come close to seeing a Kidnappers or Bandits only in your Mobile phone when you read the news or watch videos. Some of you don't even know anyone in your neighborhood or extend family that have ever been kidnapped before.

You make people outside the country feel like if you step out of your compound in Lagos, Akwa, Enugu, Asaba and other state capital or Major cities and towns in Nigeria rag tag bandit will just snatch someone like a hawk snatching a chick from the mother hen. Even the People that have had firsthand experience don't want to even talk about it because it is not an experience to keep in your memory.

From my travels they are many towns and villages in the far North that have never ever experience kidnapping or banditry before. They are people in the crisis zone in the North that don't even know how this Kidnappers & Bandits look physically. Most of them only hear about cases of Kidnapping & Banditry on the news like majority of Nigerians including you.

Anyways I believe Kidnapping & Banditry shall also pass some day.

Sadly, some won't understand the significance of your post.

It was several years ago (while finding out something about national parks and things like that) that I got to understand that there is a difference between public property and government property.

I can assure you that it is only a matter of time before all of this country's national parks, ranges, game reserves, zoological gardens, botanical gardens etc. are fully privatised. It will happen and nothing is going to stop it.

Like so many public assets that this country once had, these parks, reserves, ranges, gardens etc. will be fully run into the ground before being sold to sharks for peanuts. That is the plan. The template already exists. Millions of Nigerians have never been to a park or botanical garden before. When the Great Privatization is complete, most Nigerians will never get to go a proper park or garden in their lifetimes.

To those who may doubt me, consider that only 3% to 5% of Nigerians have ever flown on an aircraft or fly regularly. The majority of Nigerians will depart this earth without ever having travelled on an aircraft. If we say that flying is a private good, must we also say that parks and beaches are also private goods by definition? The same people who have made travelling by air a luxury are hard at work to make sure that access to parks and beaches will also become luxuries.

It is what it is.
