A 23-yr-Old Nigerian Law School Student ends it all from 4-Storey Hostel on Lagos campus

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of 23-year-old Faith Ajoke Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, Victoria Island.

Alayande was reportedly found dead within the hostel premises on Friday, August 7, 2026, after she allegedly jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building.

According to the police, a suicide note was reportedly discovered by her hostel mate and a relative, who began searching for her before she was allegedly found after the incident.

The matter was reported to the Victoria Island Police Division by the hostel’s Chief Matron at about 6:30 a.m. Police officers subsequently visited the scene and evacuated Alayande’s body to a morgue for preservation.

The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s de@th.

Meanwhile, Uchenna Marvin, who said he supervised Alayande during her university years, described her de@th as heartbreaking. He recalled that she had previously engaged in discussions about the right to life and the right to d+e while working on her research in Medical Law.

Alayande had graduated from university before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School earlier this year.

Sad. Depression is real. we don't really pay much attention to mental health and anxiety issues in Nigeria. There should be a group for this. Suicide is caused by unbearable pain and hopelessness. Please note; If you are feeling down or depressed, feel free to vent, find someone nice to vent out to and please guys try to give a listening ear, do not insult or mock them, it will make them feel worse. Even if you can't do much to help, just by listening to them when they vent really helps them feel better. Talking to someone helps. Don't be ashamed to vent out whatever is bothering you, you may feel no one cares but some really do care✅

I know what it feels like to be depressed but ending it all is not the solution. You only transfer the pain to your loved ones who will keep mourning you. Learn to stay strong and find something to hold on to

Many of this kids committing suicide have not experience half of what boys and girls face delay in the street everyday, many of them are just too emotional...
You have the opportunity to attend higher institution an opportunity many of your mates and class mates who are a way brilliant than you never dream off...

The poor people in the street and village you guys always body shame hardly commit suicide it always those doing better....

The thief you make to dance in the street have every reason to commit suicide but they move on...

You have no right to end your life because this life doesn't belong to you. Only God decides when to take one's life. Anyone who commits suicide will face punishment on the other side. Know this and know peace

Depression is real..rip barrister

Investigation should be carried out. Hope this is not the same case of toba falode in 2013.

The law student broke the law by committing suicide. This is such a sad case

People blame the law that punish you for attempted suicide but I think I like it. If you want to go, make sure you go on your first attempt, or else we will put you in jail is what Nigerian law is saying, don't attempt it. It is a often thought that it was a military thing (it was inherited from the British Colonial invaders) but come to think of it, advocates of mental health in Nigeria should ask the question, has Nigeria taken care of the physical health not to talk of mental health? Do you think they didn't know what they were doing when they did that thing?

Criminal Code Act (Southern Nigeria): Section 327 states that any person who attempts to kill themselves is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for one year.

Penal Code (Northern Nigeria): Section 231 states that anyone attempting suicide faces up to one year in prison, a fine, or both.

Why is the Southern Nigeria Law more than the Northern Nigeria Law?

Lagos State Exception: Lagos State is an exception to the federal norm. In 2015, the state amended its laws to replace prison time with mandatory hospitalisation and psychiatric care for individuals who survive a suicide attempt.

Maybe she later realized that she wasted her years studying a very useless course to Nigerians. The legal profession has been more of a curse to Nigeria and Nigerians than blessing.


They have become a gathering of corrupt gang trying so hard to outsmart each other in taking bribe from political office holders and turning justice upside down with reckless abandon without considering the consequences of their corrupt lifestyle and actions on the future of Nigeria. Left for me, law as a profession should be scrapped in Nigeria, that Nigerian law school and the NBA ought to be closed permanently for breeding corruption and destroying our democracy.
