No Light, More Babies, Fayose Blames Electricity Crisis for Population Surge The Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ayodele Fayose, has attributed part of Nigeria’s population growth to inadequate electricity supply, saying poor access to power leaves people with limited options for recreation at night... 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 Lack of Electricity Makes Nigeria’s Population Double — Darkness Makes People Spend More Time With Their Wives,” Fayose Says When you don’t address the issue of electricity, by 7 o’clock it gets dark, and people start engaging with their wives, so the population doubles. The simple problem is that, because there is no electricity, people go to bed early. Their minds are already prepared for it. If this is the only option available, they simply stay at home. But if we address the electricity problem, there will be nightlife. Ayodele Fayose, Chairman, Rural Electrification Agency 📺: ARISE News

Kdon2:You are not the only one, but it is not a uniform national phenomenon. While many parts of Nigeria still face erratic supply and grid vulnerabilities, recent localized improvements are tied to repaired gas pipeline infrastructure, better thermal plant output, and targeted feeder optimization by certain Distribution Companies (DisCos).Reasons for Localized Power SurgesGas Supply Restoration: Repaired pipelines have allowed major gas providers to ramp up fuel delivery to thermal plants, boosting generation locally.DisCo Prioritization: Distribution companies often reconfigure load allocation or prioritize specific commercial and residential rings based on improved feeder capacity or collection efficiency.System Adjustments: Incremental generation pushes from recent sector interventions can create sudden, sustained spikes in specific neighborhoods while other regions see little change.

This op is a well known agbado chewing member. Na another propaganda e wan start so. Even animals in Nigeria wey do see two raining seasons know that power generation improves during the rainy season cos of the hydro dams go Dey full power |

You should have gotten used to the pattern by now. Electricity is usually more stable during the rainy season and goes back to status quo once the rains stop. |

Nobody is buying this bullshit, the same optics every year... you better go get something doing. na the same arrangement every year right from Jonathan era... get used to the pattern from April to October the light is better, from November to March it becomes worse. April to October: Rainy season. Water levels rise, allowing our hydroelectric dams to run at full capacity and complement gas turbine generation. As a result, overall power generation peaks during these months. November to March: Dry season and Harmattan. Water levels drop, leaving dams less functional and placing the heavy load on gas turbine plants. Generation drops significantly, leading to load shedding. This is when grid collapses become frequent due to system instability—in fact, the heavy load shedding itself often triggers these collapses. If we do not build gas turbine power plants for electricity generation in every state and aggressively develop our gas reserves, we will never get power generation right. I don't even want to delve into nuclear energy—Nigeria as a country is simply not ripe for that. |

Kdon2:1. Electricity supply is worse in my area. 2. ELectrricity is not going to get better in nigeria until we stop lying to ourselves, and force the government to remove subsidy and charge a cost reflective tarrif. Right now, discos are collecting money from 82% of consumers. Keep that in mind. In April this year, discos were supposed to distribute 330 billion naira of electrcity. To pay for that, they could only raise 206 billion naira from consumers. IN May this year, they were supposed to distribute electricity worth 328 billion niara, and to pay for that they could only raise 208 billion naira from consumers Which is what you expect when most consumers are paying subsidised bills that are way below what the discos need to maintain a profitable enough state to stay afloat and pay for electricity they distribute. But with figures like the above, discos are 1. Forced to underpay gencos 2. Forced to reject power from gencos 3. There is no money to invest in improving generation and distribution...who go invest in a sector that is forced by government policy to sell at a loss. 4. The result is that discos and gencos cannot improve power supply. 5. Forget about the Siemenes project, it's meant to reduce losses on the grid. At best it can get us up to 13000 mw , which still is not enough. Oh and on government subsidy payments, it's a car crash scene. Here is the Nigerian guardian on the matter While the government’s current band programme relates to the legacy debts in the power sector, the electricity tariff shortfall from the frozen band B-E continues to climb as the federal government continues to default.. See how useless the subsidy programme for electricity is.? And see how useless your government is? And some jokes assume i support APC, lol. What nigeria needs now is 1. 32000MW to power everyone on the grid. 2. 88000 or more MW to give EVERY HOUSEHOLD...Light 24/7. in nigeria. You cannot do that without charging cost reflective tarrifs. Anything else na wishful thinking. AM sorry, but until government meters everyone, allows the discos set the price, meaning we all pay at least 250 naira per kwh, get everyone metered, and get the government to punish power theft (yes, I know, effed up, yes, corruption, yes, Tinubu is like Satan and must be removed by Angel Jubril tomorrow at 10 am , yes black man knows how to oppress other black man, and we are deficient compared to the whites).....to guarantee eventual increased investment, increased generation, better transmission and distribution, and to stop spending money on generator and solar panels...and so forth. And to eventually spend less on power. Band A is just an exercise in self deceit. 20% of consumers paying cost reflective tarrifs cannot yield enough revenue to pay for the rest of the country. Yes, there is corruption in the sector. I do not deny it. But remove subsidy to day, allow cost reflective tarrifs, and all those power companues would not be corrupt because they would be forced to work for every kobo , and every naira, to improve service and attract investment. Abusing me and calling me tinubu supporter shows that you believe that government should set the prices of businesses and producers to help NIgerians. That's a wack type of business thinking, and one which leads to more and more debt. |

Please we should all be sincere with ourselves. Electricity supply always improve in Nigeria during raining season. No government should use to score cheap point. Even while i was in Nigeria, during Jonathan, buhari etc. I still maintain my stands, both Tinubu, Atiku and Obi should get out. We need fresh hands not this set of people. |

It is common to see power supply improve in parts of Nigeria during political campaigns or before major elections, leading many residents to suspect temporary rationing adjustments by utility companies. Reasons for Power Changes Political timing: Governments and local leaders push hard to show active results, repair faulty equipment, and pressure distribution firms for better service. Infrastructure work: Local councils sometimes fast-track transformer installations or grid maintenance right before key political events. System realities: National grid load fluctuations and gas supply levels usually dictate overall generation output, meaning temporary boosts often fade once normal operating conditions return. |

A 48-hour power cut followed by a sudden return of electricity usually points to a local transformer fault, feeder trip, or a regional grid adjustment. Most users on Quora agree that checking with neighbors or local distribution office logs is the fastest way to confirm if the fix was structural or temporary. What Likely Happened Feeder or Substation Fault: A major trip or maintenance work on your local injection substation often takes up to two days to clear and test. Load Shedding: Grid generation drops can force disco operators to rotate long blackouts before cycling power back to your area. Quick Safety Checks Surge Protection: Unplug sensitive electronics immediately if voltage fluctuates or flickers. Appliance Protection: Wait 10 to 15 |
