Former Galatasaray forward Ümit Karan believes the Turkish champions would not be competing for the title if the Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen were not in the squad, DailyHighlight9 reports.

"Osimhen is the team all by himself, he's carrying the team single-handedly. Take Osimhen out of this team, and Galatasaray would finish 6th in the league."

Gbajabiamila is the one that Tinubu appointed to reorganise the NFF. Trust me, even Dikko will go next year. Tinubu don't want to sack Dikko now so that the northerner won't say he is sacking the north and appointing the south.

NSC cancels NFF election, set to name ‘normalisation committee’

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has cancelled the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) electoral congress, which was scheduled to hold on September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to pave the way for a thorough reorganisation of the federation.

This move has severely jolted the Ibrahim Gusau-led executive committee, which was bidding for a second term in office, having taken the mantle four years ago.

In the interim, the NSC is set to name a “normalisation committee” to run the nation’s football affairs for three months.

The NSC arrived at this step last Thursday when the Super Falcons were eliminated from the African playoff for the 2027 World Cup by the Banyana Banyana of South Africa, in Morocco.

The NSC arrived at this step last Thursday when the Super Falcons were eliminated from the African playoff for the 2027 World Cup by the Banyana Banyana of South Africa, in Morocco.

The Super Falcons have appeared at every edition of the FIFA World Cup since the tournament began in China in 1991.

The NSC was said to have got the permission of the World Football governing body (FIFA) after it assured the embattled President Gianni Infantino of Nigeria’s support in his re-election bid.

The NSC is said to have also reached out to the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.

With Gusau off the line, the NSC’s initial move to allegedly bring in the former President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, was said to have hit the rocks following his rejection by some top officials in the Presidency.

The Guardian, however, learnt yesterday that the Presidency has given the NSC the approval to announce the normalisation committee within 48 hours. It was not clear, yesterday, who the NSC finally picked to head the committee.

“Some other names came up after some top officials in the Presidency turned down NSC’s suggestion of making Amaju Pinnick the head of the Normalisation Committee,” a source told The Guardian yesterday. “For now, I don’t really know who will head the Committee, but one thing I know is that Amaju is no longer in the picture.

After Pinnick was rejected, “Some top officials in the Presidency also complained about NSC’s earlier decision to retain Dr Mohammed Sanusi as the secretary in the committee. The key person in the Presidency travelled out, and he is expected back in Abuja on Monday or Tuesday after which the composition of the committee would be made public, at the latest, on Tuesday.”

The normalisation committee, which will be in charge of the nation’s football for three months, is expected to prepare the ground for a new NFF election, including taking care of the grey areas many stakeholders had complained about.

When The Guardian contacted a top official of the NSC yesterday, he declined comment, saying that it was a sensitive matter. “We are working, and Nigerians will hear from us very soon,” he said.

The Gusau-led administration alone has recorded seven clear failures since taking office, with the most painful being Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The failure came despite Nigeria having a large pool of established players and an expanded African allocation for the 2026 World Cup.

The situation has raised fresh questions about the effectiveness of the country’s football development structure and the management of resources available to the NFF.

Nigeria has received substantial financial support from different sources over the years, including the Federal Government, which has provided funding and interventions for national teams and football programmes, while FIFA’s Forward Programme has also channelled development resources into the country.

I mentioned it here last week that Tinubu is interested in what happens in the NFF and Gusua won't be allowed to continue because unlike Buhari, Tinubu is aware of things happening around him, but a moniker replied if the Tinubu government is doing better than the NFF. Well, now to the next year, you guys will be seeing a brand new NFF and usual names like Gusua, Dikko at the NSC and NFF secretary General might be leaving the scenes for good. You guys shouldn't be surprised seeing a core business man from the south heading the next NFF.

It remains to be seen how this all plays out but if the President is really interested in reforming the NFF and the facts of the article particularly as it concerns getting FIFA's backing is true, then they have to take advantage of the opportunity and do a thorough reform from top to bottom.

1. The first thing they need to do is legislation. They have take a look at the current NFA act and effect the needed changes from the national assembly. Without this, the changes becomes temporal and you only need another administration that doesn't give a hoot to return back to status quo

2. Effect changes to the electoral act of the NFF. Either dilute the voting power of the state FA chairmen who are almost always politicians that are appointed by governors and would vote for the fastest envelope. Better yet, change entirely who can vote and exclude totally State FA chairman and instead substitute them for NPFL club presidents, increase the voting demographic to include more persons in the football ecosystem such that one demography can not buy fiat determine the next president like we have today.

3. Restrict funding of the NFF to only developmental initiatives. The Super Eagles and Super Falcons brand if managed by the right team is big enough to attract the needed funds to runs it's operation. The infusion of government free money is what has kept these civil servants posturing as administrators in the Nigerian football system this long.

Just like you,I said that presidency was interested in NFF this time around cuz Gusau knew that it's time up and needed to write apology letter to Tinubu just to appeal

Your post is truly what is needed but do you know that even if an election is to be held and the presidency doesn't want the NFF president or board to return, the presidency will still have their way?
Let me tell you how, stay FA chairmen have 37 votes, including FCT and the APC under Tinubu have 30+ governors and Wike. The presidency will just mandate the governor's to make sure the state FA Chairmen whom are most times politicians votes for the candidates backed by the presidency. E.g it Tinubu mandates Okpebholo, Sanwo Olu, etc to make sure their states FA Chairmen votes a particular candidate, the states FA chairmen can't do otherwise

I did a long post on how this a year ago. My recommendation was even more exhaustive on how using this route can be used to bring about the needed institutional change within what NFF without resorting to external solutions like they are doing now.

Don't want to go through the stress of searching for a post from a year ago, if not I'll have quoted it again for reference as I think it's another solution route worthy of consideration.

Osimhen brings more to the team,as he does everywhere he goes,
But to claim Galatasaray wouldn't be competing for titles is misleading and untrue.
Galatasaray is probably the biggest club in Turkey, why wouldn't they compete for titles? Players come Players go,but the clubs pedigree remains.
They have to rely on Osimhen for now because he is their biggest player

When did Nigeria started allowing people like this and those who are capable to run things in Nigeria?

I know people like this who are capable of leading Nigeria out of this mess, but they cannot even pass primaries for any major political parties in Nigeria talk less of winning the presidential election.

AC Milan getting this Diego Moreira lad is quite something. He is left footed and can play LM/LWB and RM/RWB.

So indirectly, he seems like a solid competition for Samuel Chukwueze but ofcourse, the plan may also be to have both onfield as the wingbacks in Amorim's system.

Scenario 1: Moreira at LM/LWB, Chuks at RM/RWB

Scenario 2: Moreira at RM/RWB, Chuks at RHS AM/8.

Scenario 3: Moreira at RM/RMB, Chuks on d bench and vice versa. Rotational.

Time will tell.
