I get you. I'm with you on this. But probably a special squad first, funded by each state and subsidized by the federal government (for federal schools). I feel a special squad is better for a start. They'll stay silent, among and around campus, and ready to deploy arms where necessary. Their presence can deter, while they gradually insult security-first behaviours. If not, distributing weapons to student directly, no matter the training, could sting worse than the bandits. Jakumo: |

mrvitalis:The work of the DSS is to share intelligence to other security agencies to alert them to work on such intelligence. The DSS is not alerting civilians it is alerting other security agencies to the emerging threat so it can be nipped in the bud. |

Babatunjo:This is an open secret, the body language of the federal, state and probably local government is more than enough to tell you what you need to know, I'm 100% sure that most of them are hearing the kind of treatment the Malian government are dishing out to those marauding killers but those we have here will rather look the other way, give long speeches when somebody is kidnapped or killed. It's pathetic. |

Jakumo:Mass Training of people on assault weapons in Islamic hardline regions of any part of the world will never bring forth positive outcomes. You don't fight fire with petrol. |

CorrectionFLuid:This is a powerful point that you have made, however if such an arming of university students were to be implemented in Nigeria, the largely Christian south would not be left out. A program similar to that of Switzerland could be instituted, whereby every adult man is obliged to undergo military training, and is also required to take possession of their service rifle, FOR LIFE, once that training is over. Despite Switzerland being home to one of the most heavily armed populations on planet earth, mass shootings and other violent crimes are a rarity in that nation. As it stands now, Nigeria's Fulani Islamist terror gangs are training children in the use of assault rifles at bases hidden in the desert scrubland of northern Nigeria, so it stands to reason that such training should be offered to educated young adults so that they are not at the mercy of the Islamist terror gangs whose ranks are now swelling with deadly amoral child soldiers. |

mrvitalis:Did they write to the rectors and vice chancellors? They wrote to the chief security officer of the state and it's his duty to activate all security organs and if need be take other decisions that will ensure that the criminals didn't succeed. |

CorrectionFLuid:This is the elephant in the room. Division along a north/south demarcation line is actually feasible from an economic standpoint now that lithium and gold are being mined by a criminal cartel in northern Nigeria. Those rich mineral deposits need only be extricated from exclusive exploitation by northern Nigeria's shadowy cartels, so that the entire Islamic north of Nigeria can benefit equitably from its birthright mineral deposits, whereby the oil revenue addiction of the north will have been cured in a meaningful "cold turkey" manner that will stand the test of time. With the discovery of vast gold and lithium deposits in the Islamic north of Nigeria, there no longer exists a compelling reason why northern paws should continue to reach down across all those hundreds of miles to scoop southern Nigeria's petroleum wealth under that tired old mantra of "one Nigeria". |
