Okin Biscuits Resumes Production After 17 Years by Omooba77(op): 6:37pm On Aug 26

The once-popular Okin Biscuits has resumed production for the first time in 17 years, after rehabilitating one of its production lines that had been shut down when vandals stole its cables, frequency drives, contactors, motors, and other electronic components.

The company disclosed this in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, describing Tuesday’s development as a significant milestone.

According to the statement, the exercise carried out on Tuesday was a technical trial run and not a test of the finished product, as the firm was yet to perfect the taste and quality Nigerians identified with the Okin brand before the factory went under.

The statement read in part, “For the first time in 17 years, biscuits rolled off one of our rehabilitated production lines at the factory in Offa. We had to rebuild the line after having all cables, frequency drives, contactors, motors and other electronic components stolen.

“This was a technical trial run, not a product trial. At this stage, we were not concerned about colour, appearance or achieving the final Okin recipe. The objective was simple: Can we bring this line, silent for 17 years, back to life? And we did.”

The company also announced that the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company had connected the factory to a 33KVA Band A electricity grid on the same day, a development it described as another major milestone in the revival project.

It, however, noted that more work still lies ahead before the biscuits return to store shelves, listing further testing, calibration and rehabilitation of the plant as part of the process.

“There is still work ahead. More testing. More calibration. More rehabilitation. And, of course, getting that familiar Okin taste and quality exactly right before the biscuits return to the market,” the statement added.

The company assured Nigerians that the brand, which held a strong presence in the confectionery market before its production line went silent, was on its way back.

I fell in love with shortcake way back in primary school @ Ile-Ife. It was so tasty and crunchy. I think it was 50 kobo.

That was back in the days of:
Nasco Wafers
Choco Milo
Peppermint
Fan Ice
Bubblegum
Malta Sweet
Go-go

Akara has taken over from gala, just like APC extreme poverty took over from PDP prosperity 11 years ago.

How do we get back our cheap petrol, cheap dollars, low debt burden and better roads next year?

Cheap dollars to do what ? To remain an import dependent country? What all these presidential candidates are supposed to talk about is how to stimulate local production and manufacturing not restoring fuel subsidies.
With fuel subsidies, half of our fuel ends up in neighbouring countries like Cameroun and long queues return.

If we were MORE import dependent back then, then how did we unlock our productivity to become the biggest economy in Africa?

How many long queues did we have when Atiku and Obasanjo were in office? How long did it take for long queues for telecom services to disappear after the holistic deregulation of the sector 25 years ago? How many years before the prices crashed after Glo started operating? Why hasn’t petrol prices crashed similarly in four years as promised by our brilliant president?

The fact that you are unaware of something, doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening anymore.

I see. I've been wondering what happened to the company. This is one of the best biscuits in Nigeria back then. The shortcake biscuit is awesome. Though I hope they want compromise the quality.

Why is this not reflected in the unemployment rates, which the government has failed to report for several months now?

Why are the favourable policies not helping the president to create 50 million jobs promised, such that the wife is now mocking our jobless and extreme poverty situation with akara empowerment?

Wow.... I can't wait. A truck load will be dispatched for me, especially for the square shaped type. That was my favourite. I'm a lover of biscuit flakes, it will do the trick.
