South African media personality Sol Phenduka had the internet in stitches after reacting to a viral clip of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's very grand departure from Abuja. The footage, branded with State House Digital and Aso Villa TV watermarks, showed officers saluting, a red carpet rolled out across the tarmac, and the presidential motorcade pulling up to a private jet — all for the beginning of a three-week annual leave. According to the on-screen text in the clip, Bola Ahmed Tinubu left the Nigerian capital on Sunday, 30 August 2026, bound for London, United Kingdom, as his first stop. The trip is described as a working vacation, and the Nigerian president is expected back in the country ahead of a busy campaign season leading into the January 2027 election. Phenduka's response to the footage was brief but said everything — two crying-laughing emojis posted alongside the clip on X. The ceremonial tone of the departure video clearly caught people off guard. For many viewers, the spectacle of an official red carpet farewell for what amounts to a personal holiday was too much to take seriously.

See finish from xenophobic arsonists. This is the national disgrace, shamelessness, and embarrassment Tinubu have subjected Nigeria to. |

Can you imagine these South Africans? Well, I don't blame them. I blame our system that allows agberos, touts, certificate forgers and drug barons as rulers. In a sane country that drug dealer should be sentenced to death by hanging. What a national disgrace and a big shame! |

When you descend so low to the level of regarding the statements of South Africans, then you have already joined their league. The statements of those tenants can never be regarded. Let Kenyans or Togolese say same and I might consider, but South Africans, Naaaaaa Those guys don’t even have a country they can call their own. Their salve master still owns them and less than 1% of them have a stake in South Africa. So for them to have the effrontery to throw jabs at a nation that owns itself is unfounded and sarcastic. |

The shame is not on our politicians but on Nigeria as a country. Nigeria is suffering because the lifestyle of greed and covetousness has been normalised as a culture; hence, nature and God's favour have departed from the country. National repentance and mental reprogramming are the solutions. |

Racoon:But South Africans hate Nigerians because of the thousands of drug traffickers from your side operating there. That's their problem with us, not Tinubu. |

RandDigital:I saw it on TV. Jobless, hopeless and lost touts roaming the streets of the country in pain, anguish and despair. Lots who believe a foreigner is responsible for their woes in life. At some point, I felt like crying for them. It exposed me to the glaring reality that the slave masters conquered black South Africans. Even those that granted interviews were sounding deranged. It was like they weren’t listening to what they were spewing. Your people don’t have any blame of I must be truthful. The colonial masters rendered them useless. |

| Re: South Africans React To Tinubu Taking Leave Aboard - PICTURES by rossipki: 1:58pm On Sep 02 |
RandDigital:Come on will you SHUT UP. Nigeria has 250 million people of which less than 3 million are overseas. So which "half the country" did you see abroad? There are over 1 million Pakistanis in South Africa. Indians? Over 3 million there! Are Nigerians even up to 50,000 there? Yet all your hate is for them because Apartheid taught you to hate your own race and worship your white oppressors. Before light skin colour, you turn from hard men to mosquitoes. |

Obilikom:You must realize that we humans are dynamic and fluid. I love the US at some point and will praise them if I see an avenue to do so. Same applies to South Africa. I respect their stance against Israel but disagree with Xenophobia. It’s human nature! Even the kids we have, we have the plus and minus things to say about them. |

rossipki:You’re joking right!? You buying into the yarn being spun by xenophobic South Africans that ‘thousands of Nigerians (Igbos according to your smug sanctimonious self) are engaged in drug trafficking in their country and ruining the lives of their otherwise pure and innocent citizens’!? What studies or data do you have to support your position? I’m guessing that, but for the ‘pesky drug dealing Igbo’, the South Africans would have been brimming with love for the Yoruba and other Nigerians in their country and y’all would be getting on like Romeo and Juliet!? Pray, since you’re so well ‘informed’, can you tell us what reason you can adduce for South Africans hating Ghanaians, Zimbabweans and other Africans? Instead of you to call out missteps and errors in judgement when you see it, you’re here trying to divert attention by focusing on a group of people not responsible for the mess your wrong electoral choices have plunged the country into! |

Obilikom:The IQ is not generic. We still have few who have far above that. If it might interest you, 2 of my first 3 icons come from South Africa. The likes of Nelson Mandela and Solomon Mahlangu. You can’t tell me both had low IQ. Bit when the wise are few, it is generally acceptable to say everyone is dumb and that’s where I agree with you. |

This is the kind of embarrassment that all those supporting Tinubu are not smart enough to see. If Tinubu cannot spend his leave in Nigeria, but to run abroad for Medicare it shows there is no single evidence of patriotism in him. He only occupies the seat to steal and for his personal egotism. Buhari passed the batten to Tinubu in this regard, no doubt. Nothing has changed. PDP in their time never did that, starting from Obasanjo to GEJ. It clearly shows that the presidents APC has produced so far are more interested in seeking health insurance from the Nigeria treasury, than the actual fact of making sacrifices for positive growth and development of the country. This is the reason why they keep spending billions managing their fragile health with state money abroad. Only a foolish person will still support this scam while claiming to be ignorant of this fact. We need a healthy president that will not use Nigerian money to support his health insurance policy. |

Is President Tinubu Taking The Boldest Political Decisions? • South Africans React To Nigeria's Election Outcome (TWEETS) • Osinbajo, Tinubu Taking APC By Storm • 2 • 3 • 4
Why Do Some Africans See Merit Based Appointments As Proof of "Domination"? • Islam & Non-oil Exports: If True, Then There Is No Way Nigeria Will Stay One. • APC Names Lagos Lawmaker As Kogi Deputy Governorship Candidate (Is This A Joke?)
