Yes, there are significant differences in outcomes between populations, and we shouldn’t be afraid to acknowledge that. But HDI, income or national productivity don’t automatically prove inherent racial differences in ability. Countries are shaped by institutions, capital, education, infrastructure, technology, history and incentives.

The Korea Vs Nigeria comparison actually illustrates this. Korea’s success tells us a lot about the environment and institutions it built; it doesn’t necessarily tell us that Koreans are inherently more capable than Nigerians.

The more interesting question, in my view, is why some societies are much better at converting human potential into prosperity. That’s a serious question. Turning the answer into a racial hierarchy is a much bigger claim and one these statistics alone don’t establish.
