I saw the arrival of the French national team members to their training ground and I was grossly ashamed of how we treat our football stars. Nothing stops the NFF from organising registered airport taxis to take these boys from the airport to their hotels after long trips. We have to do better than this, these are guys that sacrifice their precious few days rest/visiting loved ones, to play for the honour of the country and we treat them like common nobodies ![]() Yet we can quickly condemn some players that chose other countries above ours |

EElopa:Which one be "that country",are you not part of us again? Blueelf said "There's no sportsman who has this much distractions and is consistent" that was his observation, and he is not wrong. It's standard anywhere,as a professional footballer to be selective on what you do,go,eat or even what you say in public. There is nothing difficult there to understand. I only came in when you said that what a player does is no one's business, which i disagree, if any player does what is capable of attracting attention, he should be ready for it as a public figure, if his actions leads to poor performance, he also be ready for hash criticisms. Do what you like, but if the fans are not ok with it,they have the right to say what they feel also. Now you mentioned Victor Boniface, when some were complaining of him speeding too much time on social media, some also defended there was nothing wrong with that, but now it's easy for people to say he is overweight and accuse him of all sorts of things which they shouldn't have. When Okoye will sit on the post for our next match and mistakenly concede a goal that leads to our loss, then you will see that they would not blame it only on the party he had with the so female friend but the ones he had with Cardi B. |

Gift Orban eligibility dispute: No Verifiable Records Show That he Played For Togo National Team With Different Name and Age There are no publicly verifiable records showing that Super Eagles-eligible forward Gift Emmanuel Orban represented Togo in a CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier under a different name and age, despite an eligibility allegation that has followed the striker since 2023. The controversy resurfaced recently after reports again raised questions about Orban's eligibility to represent Nigeria, following his impressive start to the 2026/27 season with Turkish club Amedspor. The allegation dates back to 2023, when the Togolese Football Federation reportedly questioned Orban's eligibility for Nigeria and claimed that he had previously represented Togo in a CHAN qualifier using a different identity. However, the reports that have repeated the allegation have not publicly identified the alleged alternative name, date of birth or age. OwnGoalNigeria reported in November 2023 that Togo claimed Orban had played for its B team under a different name and identity and that documents supporting the claim had been forwarded to the Nigeria Football Federation. The report did not publish the alleged name, age, or documents. A subsequent OwnGoalNigeria report published in June 2025 described the allegation more specifically, saying Orban had allegedly represented Togo in a CHAN qualifier under a different name and age. Again, however, no alternative identity or match documentation was provided. RSSSF records provide no evidence of an Orban appearance A review of the available RSSSF records for Togo's 2020 CHAN qualifying campaign provides no evidence of Orban playing for the country under his known name. Togo faced Benin in the first round before meeting Nigeria in the second round. In the first leg against Nigeria on September 22, 2019, RSSSF lists Togo's starting XI as Abdoul Aigba, Klousseh Agbozo, Abdoul Bode, Kossi Jean Ozou, Messan Toudji, Gnama Akaté, Junior Akakpo, Koukouvi Amekoudji, Yendoutie Nane, Ashraf Agoro, and Marouf Tchakei. Orban is not among them. The return leg, played in Lagos on October 19, 2019, also has a detailed Togo line-up in the RSSSF archive. The listed players were Abdoul Aigba, Abdoul Bode, Kossi Jean Ozou, Kangnivi Tchoutchoui, Messan Toudji, Gnama Akaté, Koukouvi Amekoudji, Yendoutie Nane, Ashraf Agoro, Kossi Koudagba, and Marouf Tchakei, with Ismail Ouro-Agoro and Kparo Ahoro introduced as substitutes. Orban is again absent from the record. Togo won the tie 4-3 on aggregate and subsequently reached the 2020 CHAN tournament. No alternative identity established The central issue is that the allegation concerns an alleged appearance under another identity. Therefore, the absence of the name “Gift Orban” from the match records cannot by itself disprove the allegation. A player using an entirely different registered identity would not necessarily appear under his known name. However, no publicly accessible record reviewed for this report identifies the supposed alternative name or age. That means there is currently no verifiable basis for publishing a specific name or date of birth as the identity Orban allegedly used. The distinction is important because repeating an allegation does not establish the underlying event. Orban has denied representing Togo Orban has consistently rejected the allegation. Recent reporting by Afrik-Foot recalled the dispute and quoted the striker as saying: “It’s false, I have never played for Togo.” The publication also reported that the Togolese Football Federation had contacted the NFF after Orban's first Super Eagles call-up and alleged that he had appeared for Togo in a CHAN qualifier under a different name and age. Orban's publicly recorded identity is Gift Emmanuel Orban, born on July 17, 2002, in Benue, Nigeria. Transfermarkt and BDFutbol both list the same name and date of birth, while FIFA also identified him as a Nigerian player born on July 17, 2002, in a 2023 profile. Nigeria had already called him up The Nigeria Football Federation officially included Orban in José Peseiro's squad for the September 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe. The NFF's announcement, published on September 3, 2023, listed Orban among the forwards invited for the match in Uyo. It was his first senior call-up to the Super Eagles. Orban did not make his senior international debut in that match. The eligibility controversy subsequently became part of the discussion surrounding his international future. Previous reports claimed the issue was settled There is another important element to the story. In November 2023, OwnGoalNigeria reported that sources within the NFF considered Orban free to represent Nigeria after the eligibility issue had apparently been settled in his favour. The report described the alleged Togo claim and said documents had been sent to the NFF. However, that report did not publish an official CAF ruling, the alleged Togo documents or the supposed alternative identity. Consequently, the report can establish that such a claim was made, and that sources said the matter had been settled, but it does not independently establish the alleged Togo appearance. What the records establish The available evidence therefore supports several points. Orban was officially called up by Nigeria in 2023. The Togolese side reportedly challenged his eligibility and alleged that he had previously played for Togo in a CHAN qualifier under a different identity. Orban denied ever playing for Togo. RSSSF's publicly accessible records for Togo's 2020 CHAN qualifying matches do not list Orban under his known name. Most importantly, the reviewed sources do not identify the alleged alternative name and age. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to state as an established fact that Orban played for Togo under another identity. The story remains an eligibility allegation Orban's current club form has brought the issue back into the spotlight. He has scored seven goals and provided two assists in six Turkish Süper Lig appearances for Amedspor this season, according to Opta Analyst. His performances have renewed interest in whether he could eventually receive another Super Eagles invitation. But the available evidence does not establish that he previously represented Togo under a different name and age. For a definitive answer, the relevant football authorities would need to produce the alleged CHAN registration, match sheet, player identification documents or an official eligibility decision showing the name and date of birth under which the player was registered. Until such documentation is made publicly available, the claim that Gift Orban represented Togo under a different name and age remains an unverified allegation, rather than an established fact. |

Mubarak Suleiman - from the moment I watched him vs Arsenal and the likes in the Uefa Youth League, I knew another solid Naija talent has emerged. A strong addition to the U23s. The Other Slavia lads are all very solid ballers: Ayaosi, Moses, Isife. There is also Izuchukwu Okonkwo.

Marketing is the key to successful product. This is why I always advocate for people with strong business background to be running institutions in Nigeria. When you are talking of attracting diasporan talents to rep Nigeria you have to make the supereagles brand attractive. Watching some of these players arrive at the hotel in a mini bus packed like a sardine is just not attractive. If I am a Francis Onyeka, Ethan Nwaneri watching these it will be a total turn off for me. Organizing it in a way where a whole bunch of the players arrive at a specified time then a proper bus will go pick them up and drop them off at the hotel. |

Papi85:My brother...different times we live in. I remember the time when every player and their agents made every effort to play in a top 5 league, cause our coach then insisted on that or no national team call up. We pray these set come good and attract scouts from the top Leagues. |
