500 gallons of water go for N20k. Multiply by 4 in a month, that's N80k. By extrapolation, that's N960k in a year on water alone. Why? Because the governor believes that clean and accessible water is the least of his worries. UK people pay high taxes, pay cost reflective tarrifs for water and electricity and also pay things like television licence (which is a tax, and which if one does not pay, the cops will come for you, I wish I was joking)...and a host of other taxes.

Many british people, and indeed Europeans do not use their cars like Nigerians. Also, their paying cost reflective tarrifs for electricity means they have light 24/7 all the time. Their high tax rate means that they have good enough public transport...though try travelling by railways or bus, it's very very expensive

So, many UK people and other europeans use public transport. That's a big reason why many of the second hand cars that come into Nigeria from abroad are nearly new or very new. Haven't seen much use.

From that minimum wage, they pay cost reflective tarrifs for electricity and water, they pay parking meter charges, congestion charges. If they have a TV set, they pay TV Licence fees, and they also pay for some very high rents. (rent for a room and parlor can be as much as 500 pounds monthly, and they also pay something called council tax.

Food is also a bit expensive over there.

As a result, many of them use public transport or walk, especially if you are on minimum wage.

Oh , and did I mention credit card debt? That chops a lot of money.

They ain't spending their cash on fuel for cars. Many of them park their cars and use it once or twice a week , if they have cars.
