There was a poster that said it very simply. You want your best players playing in the best leagues.

Turkey and Saudi are not the best places for our boys to ply their trade. The level of competition isn’t as high as the top 5 in Europe. Not just the competition, but the tactical level.

The pressure to perform week in and week out isn’t as high and naturally you’ll be off game if you’re relaxed.

Ndidi has been finished for a long time now. We need to look at the next gen
What about the Madagascar players? Where do they play? So all your players must play in LaLiga and the EPL to beat Madagascar? grin

God abeg!

Dem never ready for George Ilenikhena
A naturally born centre-forward. He's making the runs and taking up those positions in the centre

Debut match, first goal

Welcome George Ilenikhena, Osimhen's heir apparent

Our players are average at its best in this match. Zero urgency, just sluggish here and there. Bassey has been the best player on the field, he’s dominating every part of the field, including the midfield, so many line breaking passes from him and his daring movement forward. That young man has really grown.
because Madagascar score one goal. That field self is not helping our players. We are winning this game

Ola Aina is good,he just needed to return to his full fitness.

Left back position is where we need an upgrade from Bruno,i don't have much confidence in him to always make the right and intelligent decisions

He may not be a good header like Osimhen or plays like Osimhen, but I see an "Obafemi Martin" kinda move he has...that boy na very good striker...just go and watch how he placed that ball again

Brilliant goal. Iwobi the sexy penetrative pass (as usual) and Lookman with an intelligent dummy for George who went through on goal and scored the 1 v 1. 🔥

Saudi League has equalised. grin
That’s fine but my point still stands. This is Madagascar we are playing. Against elite teams the gap in quality will show.

We saw it at the World Cup with the likes on Koulibaly, Mendy and Mane. You could tell they were just off the pace. Their decision making was very slow and that is partially due to where they play their club football.

I’m not saying in a vacuum that players from Saudi, Turkey, Scotland etc can’t do well for the SE - at the end of the day these are still professional footballers and Int’l football has fewer matches than club football. But those players ideally shouldn’t be our first choices.

In our heydey are players were starting in UCL finals, playing for title challenging clubs etc. That is the standard we should aim to return to.

Skippo Ndidi should allow the strikers to do their job.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Hardrive(m): 5:59pm On Sep 25
When playing with 2 strikers, one is a main strikers while the other is a support strikers, the pairing could have been tolu and either akor or illeni.....
The 2 upfront are both supporting strikers.
Secondly, when using lookman you have to put him on the wings while giving him a free role to find space to operate not choking him in the middle. Very soon Nigerians would pounce on the players saying nonsense. A taller player would have been dealing with chukwueze's crosses properly. I have been saying the same thing all the time. Always put lookman on the wings.

But our midfield is thin
GBAM!! SE is like Manchester United and Real Madrid. We have neglected our midfield for far too long.

We saw it in the WC. Once you lose the midfield, you lose the game.

Ilenikhena is the only one from the Saudi league and we did not recruit him for what he is doing now in the Saudi League. We recruited him for what he showed at ages 17 and 18 in Ligue 1, the UCL and in Belgium.

This was a chance for us to cap him and bring him home and we have done that.

He is the exception. More than anyone here, I want our lads in the best leagues but I also know how to apply context to certain invitations like Ilenikhena.

Our midfield is wide open because Lookman is not working hard for the team. Ademola Lookman needs to start performing like a superstar on this team. He and Victor are the biggest profile players we have on this team, and this his lackluster performances for Nigeria in the qualifying series of a major tournament is becoming very irritating. He simply cannot just be an average player for this team.

Ndidi is off form, and you can see why he has lost his place at Besiktas, and Chukwueze is not Frank Onyeka, so he is not really putting in the effort to do the dirty work to help out in the middle. Akor Adams has not really been on form, and he has been clumsy this half. The only reason why his place is somehow secure on this team is his effective partnership with Oshimhen. He really needs to sit up because Eric Chelle is definitely not afraid to show the axe. Ndidi is really struggling; he simply does not look to have the legs to do the job needed of him in this chelle system today.
