Image123:You're posing as if you're speaking factually now. Minimum wage is for majority of nigerian workers. And since you now know your numbers? How many people did naira devaluation and subsidy removal affect negatively? Was it a minority or all? There's no such thing as negative inflation. So which inflation is positive? Is it the inflation brought by naira devaluation and subsidy removal? Can you share the statistics that shows that every educated person in Nigeria agreed to naira devaluation and subsidy removal or it's just another wash from APC coven? |

Ofunaofu:Your questions are valid though but he (like others -your Atiku,Peter Obi) told us they are going to remove it. I searched but didn't see anywhere the government announced price increase from N187 to N1500 what happened was reaction of market forces to the announcement of the removal. |

Gboss247:There's already hyperinflation. I see no reason why the minimum wage shouldn't be inflated to catch up with it. |

Image123:All Nigerian workers who work in the formal sector which at the last count is about 30% of the population and their family members including extended family benefit from it. Then the market traders and artisans who they patronize also benefit from it indirectly with higher patronage and returns. So can you explain where you got the idea that minimum wage is for a minority? Let me give you an example. Lithiumite has stopped eating mackerel since Tinubu took office due to low purchasing power. The seller he patronizes thus experiences lower sales of mackerel and in turn lower proceeds from the business. If he begins to earn higher wages, he can resume buying mackerel and might even top it up with turkey meat. With that, his seller makes more money and gets more return and is thus further empowered. Do you get it? |

Image123:The idea of free market is an illusion. The Nigerian forex market is controlled by the CBN. The CBN has restricted the naira from appreciated to it's real value. Earlier this year, the CBN usually release dollars into the market is the official rates nears ₦1,400/$ and buys off dollars if the exchange crosses ₦1,350/$ to like ₦1,330/$. |

yesloaded:how would this govt reduce inflation with this govt lavish spending and excess spending. Within just three month, this govt has borrowed 7 trillion and you saying this govt can reduce inflation. I just minimum wage is not the problem. This govt should do this and that. We just deciving ourselves. Inflation cannot be reduced. Nothing govt can do. So he should just increase the minimum wage that concern the massess |
| Re: Increase Minimum Wage Now — Atiku Tells Tinubu by delkuf(m): 5:21pm On Sep 28 |
Ofunaofu:dont mind them. With it the civil servant but if the govt is spent lavishly and borrowing to do nothing, there is no inflation |
| Re: Increase Minimum Wage Now — Atiku Tells Tinubu by Image123(m): 6:44pm On Sep 28 |
Kukutente23:As usual, you deceive yourself by being clever by half. You know the figure is ridiculous. Let me help you and other readers. As at 2024, government reports "the once over-bloated federal civil service has now been brought down from over 100,000 to 69,308 who have been verified and are on the payroll." https://www.statepress.ng/2024/06/fg-uncovers-1618-civil-servants-with.html? Imagine 70,000 people getting minimum wage increase, but over 240million people suffer the inflation resulting. It makes no sense. Most state civil service cannot cope and are not paying the federal minimum wage, but let's dash them that they are paying and will pay. State Government civil service approximate numbers is 1million. With local government, we dash 2million total employees benefiting. Formal sector employment in Nigeria is approximately 8%, 92% is informal and not likely to follow. They currently don't. Wonder where you manufacture 30%, you still dey rig statistics? Imagine if government gave this your figure now, you'd counter it for sake of opposition. SMH. |

Gboss247:Again, you forgot to state who gave you the value you parroted. The CBN has oversight of the economy and currency via instruments like interest rates, money supply, regulations, foreign reserves, etc. We're not where we want to be, but the CBN is doing very well also. On April 25, 2024, the Financial Times reported the naira as “the world’s best-performing currency in recent weeks.” https://www.ft.com/content/7031123a-c724-49e9-bb47-fda4e9a53a8e? https://www.channelstv.com/2024/04/20/naira-best-performing-currency-globally-says-cbn/? World Bank based report in October 2025 described the naira as among Africa's better-performing currencies. As for forex subsidy to support your corruption, it's gone bro. |

delkuf:The last increment brings about massive inflation They've not increased salaries but cooking gas is now 1300naira from major marketers while roadside sellers are selling at 1800/kg If they increase the salary today, they will slam some hidden tax on everything and you will realize the 70k is more valuable than whatever they increased the money into |

yesloaded:The 22 billion Naira sunk into a now abandoned residence is a fallout of minimum wage review too? |
| Re: Increase Minimum Wage Now — Atiku Tells Tinubu by delkuf(m): 3:28am On Sep 29 |
yesloaded:cooking gas has to 1300 is the main reason why they should increase. Let me tell you one thing, all this reduce inflation and purchasing power cannot happen presently. Not in the current govt. Do you see the this govt are spending. Within three months, this govt has borrow 7 trillion dollors. And they are planning to borrow another 1.5 billion. And you thing inflation will come down, be whinning yourselve |
| Re: Increase Minimum Wage Now — Atiku Tells Tinubu by Kukutente23: 5:48am On Sep 29 |
Image123:So imagine just 8% as you say having such a trickle down effect on the economy. Income distribution primarily happens through that 8%. So how can anyone sane say minimum wage is only for the minority when it has a trickle down effect that reaches majority of the population. Besides the reason why the formal sector is still so small in terms of numbers because of weak government oversight. A lot of schools in the private sector, vendors and contract services workforce in Nigeria are classed as informal sector. Let me shock you. Do you know that teachers in schools run by govt parastatals are seen as being in informal sector which makes them being deprived of some benefits they should ordinarily get? Nigerian govt is basically enabling the exploitation of its own citizens. Telcos are reputed to have between 20k-25k workers but the services under them empoy over 500k workers who end up classed as informal for example. Same holds for almost all other sectors! |
| Re: Increase Minimum Wage Now — Atiku Tells Tinubu by yesloaded: 8:00am On Sep 29 |
delkuf:Ok o When they increased the salaries by 20k naira flat but double the current inflation, all of us will be here By the time landlord increase the rent by double, transporter increased the transport fare by double, flood inflation in 3 folds then you will understand why minimum wage incremental is not the solution. Many people think some of us are not a fan of such demand because we don't earn salaries from government but it's far from that |
| Re: Increase Minimum Wage Now — Atiku Tells Tinubu by Image123(m): 7:24pm On Sep 29 |
Kukutente23:What trickle effect are you blabbing about? You lied and exaggerated that it was 30% and started to imagine non-existent things. i corrected you with facts, and you're moving on to paint your scenario? No dear. Very few people are affected by any change in salary by the government. Like i said, most state governments cannot even afford/facilitate the current minimum wage, so that lowers the 8% when we remove the state and local government workers. On the other hand, the trickle/tsunami effect of the inflation that comes from it touches everyone 100%. All your story is besides the point, the point is that most of the workers are not paid the so called minimum wage increase. If government likes, they increase minimum wage to 1million naira, your 500k workers you are crying about will not have their minimum salaries increased to the 1million naira. State governments will not comply. But the announcement alone will trigger inflation for everybody in Nigeria including the unborn and the dead. This is the simple fact. If you like, keep dancing around the politics. |
| Re: Increase Minimum Wage Now — Atiku Tells Tinubu by Kukutente23: 7:36pm On Sep 29 |
Image123:I thought all the state govts are now paying salary. Which one are you saying now that they can't afford to pay salaries. Your 8% is only for govt workers. You've not factored in the OPS which employs more people than the govt. Other than that are those indirectly employed on contracts and projects by the Tier 1 OPS. If you add all these, the formal sector will hit 30% When govt increased minimum wage from 30k to 70k two years ago, there was no inflation because prices were already inflated due to the twin evils of naira devaluation and subsidy removal. So claiming that any increase in minimum wage wil necessarily trigger inflation is a blatant lie. If that were the case, inflation would have spiked after the 2011 wage increase but inflation actually dropped in 2011 from 2010 figures. |
