Traveling With Expired Visa? by vineyardfarms(op): 3:19am On Sep 30
I hold dual citizenship. I want to travel back but my carribean passport has expired and no embassy here in Nigeria, but my Nigerian passport is current. How do l navigate my way back to the carribean? What is the easiest way out to avoid visa fees and rejection?

My options are;

¹. Nigeria to London - Jamaica - panama - El Salvador to Belize.

Please any other option to my destination? Is there direct flight to panama through other African countries? Please sound advice from Airlines Agent

You cannot fly out of Nigeria using your expired Caribbean passport, and your suggested route will result in a near-certain boarding rejection. As an airline agent would advise you, your most critical barrier isn't your final destination; it is the transit countries.

I will assume your you're a Panamanian citizen.

There is no International law that prohibits a citizen from entering with an expired passport. The catch here is that airlines have the obligations to verify your identity, and an expired passport can mean many things which can lead to heavy fines and license seizure.

Your best bet is to contact Panamanian embassy that has geographical competence over Nigeria (the one is South Africa), and request for an emergency travel certificate.

With the ETC, you can travel and transit to Panama without any issues.

Typically you can fly to your home country with an expired passport. Look it up on the airline website or country website.

I have flown into Nigeria many times with expired Nigerian passport from the USA.

Thanks for making this clarification.
The way some folks dash in here to comment what they know nothing about is sickening.
ETC (travel certificate) should be necessary in case of loss of your passport.

Your best bet is to contact the Panama embassy. They will issue you a certificate which will be accepted by any airline for your travel.
Re: Traveling With Expired Visa? by peacenow: 8:25pm On Oct 02
If you have dual citizenship and you have both countries valid passports with you, you need no visa. present both passports at port of exit with any other required document.
You can not overstay in Nigeria as long as you have Nigerian passport stamped in when you arrived Nigeria. You may have problems if you only stamped in foreign passport with visa and overstayed. You will have to ask your local immigration office for extension and contact your embassy for guidance.
All countries have emegency travel document. You have to travel to the country that has your embassy to have emmergency travel document issued to you by your embassy. Mind you, to save yourself from headache, board a direct flight to avoid transit country visa issues.

Be mindful of how you quote and talk to your betters next time. Nowhere in the OP's post that I read did he say that he holds a Jamaican passport. If he were to hold a Jamaican passport, he wouldn't have created this thread, unless he's ignorant and chasing clout, because Jamaica has its High Commission in Abuja and a consulate in Lagos.

In fact, I blame Nairaland, which has stifled members' ability to pass brutal truths. Thank your stars.
