The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)  on Wednesday said motorists driving against traffic would be subjected to a psychiatric test.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota.

According to him, any driver caught driving against traffic during the forthcoming Easter would also be prosecuted for dangerous driving.

The sector commander further said that such erring drivers were liable to pay N50,000 as fine or risk imprisonment.

“FRSC is hereby warning motorists against such nefarious acts in order to check loss of lives and property, ”

Oladele also said the FRSC had embarked on a special patrol for the Easter to reduce the discomfort of motorists travelling during the festival.

He said that the command had reached an agreement with the construction company, Julius Berger Plc, to open the barricaded section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in order to ease vehicular movement.

Oladele further said that FRSC personnel would keep vigil at strategic locations to check the excesses of motorists during the Easter.

He implored motorists to maintain their vehicles and plan well ahead of their trips while refraining from night journeys.

Zoo FRSC should device another means to discipline or punish errant drivers not using the psychiatry threat.
The national body of Psychiatrists in Nigeria have already met and said they will not be a party to that.
Meanwhile they are talking of a fine of 50k while minimum wage is 18k.
Why not suspend licences if you can't find another severe enough punishment?

My challenge with this nation is that we enjoy denying realities and thereby, engaging in unneccesary drama
This is simply hogwash!
In a nation that is plagued with so much problems. we record an almost unprecedented rate of road fatalities due to government negligence, institutional and officials' corruption and all we can come up with is this farce!! What about prioritising the problem of your corrupt officials in the discharge of their primary duty!
Chai!

I hope that FRSC will also stop overspeeding politicians who normally drive against traffic and make them to undergo the test.

Yeye country!

Psychiatric test for what?
Just say all of us are mad and take it like that.

You've allowed people to be capable obtaining driving licences without going to any driving school or doing any driving test. What do you expect will happen?

Carry all these same Nigerians overseas, they will all follow proper process of being tested plus driving school before even being issued a driving licence.

any road safety officer standing in front of moving vehicle or chasing motorist or dragging steering with driver should undergo psychiatry evaluation instead.
almost 90million Nigerians are poor and living below #300 per day. about 50% of government workers are earning up to #30000.
most people are struggling to cope financially. I can say that presence of traffic officers in our roads are responsible panic attacks and psychiatry problems among populace.

When I was in secondary school, I heard that anyone involved in exams malpractice will be jailed for 21years. I'm yet to hear of any culprit convicted.

This guys are thinking. I guess this the best news so far. Many people have one mental illness that doesn't require fine or beating but some Psychotherapeutic Drugs.

I remember seeing an epileptic driver on the high way with a commercial bus. I just pity the passenger's that day. I had to report his car number to the nearby FRSC and he was attested.

The government in Nigeria exists mainly to prey on citizens, enslave them and enrich politicians and civil servants in the process.

It breaks my heart when I see LASTMA officials break traffic laws!

How can there be sanity on the roads when those who are supposed to enforce the laws disregard them with impunity. It's like a father who sleeps with his daughter. Such a father has lost the right to be called such.

Lawlessness will still continue to plague the roads as long as those who are supposed to be a shiny example for all are some of the biggest flouters.

Any FRSC sector that allows traffic build up thus encouraging one-way shall be subjected to psychiatric test, too.

So fine should be 1K so that people can commit the crime and feel they can always pay? I really pity people who surround you, they must be going through a lot.
