Pls I want someone who has been using Stanbic Mutual Funds to date to answer this for me: I was advised to open Stanbic Mutual Funds in my city of residence. I went to their regional branch and was asked to see a lady they claim handles mutual funds, regular savings and fixed deposits. This is my first time with them so I opened a regular savings but I'm told that mutual funds rates are not stable and may crash to the point that I may find the net return undesirable so I should go for fixed deposit for 6months or more. I was confused but they said mutual funds is not stable as I assumed. I chose 6 months which is 13.5% and said this was non-negotiable. But I have not deposited any amount in my regular savings for them to move the money into fixed deposit because I don't have an online app to do this but I have filled the form for fixed deposits and will activate once I deposit 4M into my Regular account. Then I was told that to deactivate both fixed and mutual funds, I still have to come to their branch to do so in person due to fraud concerns. Well, that is not an issue so far one's money is secured but pls what do you all have to say regarding the mutual funds Yield vs Stanbic Fixed Deposit. Thanks. |

| Re: Mutual Funds by freeman67: 2:47pm On Oct 08 |
Oluseun234:There are some misinformation from the bank staff here. Firstly, it's not a must to open a savings account with the bank in order to open a mutual fund with them but it's advisable because it ensure faster and smoother transaction with them most times. Secondly, most often than not the interest of the Mutual Funds is higher than that of the Fixed Deposit at any given time even in that same bank nomatter how it fluctuates. For a while Stanbic MMF has hovered around 15% which is better than the 13.5% you are given for the Fixed Deposit. Yes, mutual funds rates fluctuates and Fixed Deposit once locked will remain so till the expiration/maturity of the investment tenure, I personally will still choose MMF over Fixed Deposit because of it's flexibility. You can withdraw or deposit more mutual funds without writing new contract every now and then. Like I always say, the core bank staff are usually on target and pressure to deliver more customers and as such will go to any lent to attract customers for their own growth and incentives. It's just that Stanbic are not very responsive these days and may delay opening the the mutual fund account. If not once you have an android phone and soft copy of your valid ID, passport, proof of address and the general KYC docs required; you can just download the Stanbic BLUENEST App on your phone and try to set it up from there is not proper Stanbic IBTC Asset Management Office in your location. If you encounter any issues you can either call or mail them and then they can direct to any bank branch. That way they will no longer be able to do anything again other than to assist you. |

freeman67:Oh many thanks for your swift reply🙏. Yes, I also opened regular savings because my current bank has not met CBN recapitalization target twice now and their banking services are frustratingly stressful. Nothing gets sorted out quickly. Based on your reply, I will not move any money yet to the regular savings so that I can ask them to terminate the fixed deposit. No date has been entered on the form except principal and duration. I will ask her to terminate it otherwise I can do so after the 6month expires if she finds the request a bit stressful. Under such a condition, I will terminate the fixed deposit account before auto-renewal which has also been entered on the form pending the principal deposit into my newly opened regular savings. Then I will proceed with the blunest app. Is it stanbic 3.1.7? I was also asked to download this app, Stanbic 3.1.7 pending the e-arrival of my account number. 2. I also do not know if this a good decision: I rejected the ATM card subscription offer. I told them I am okay with their mobile app but I noticed the lady felt uneasy even though she affirmed ATM card was optional. Pls what is your experience of their Mobile Banking app and do you think I should get the ATM card or not? 🙏. 3! Based on your e-application and withdrawal history, how reliable is the blunest app for mutual funds investment? 🙏 |

Oluseun234:Dem don bobo you . Insist on MMF, price fluctuate presently BTW 15-16. I didn't visit any Stanbic bank branch, i applied online. I followed emmasoft link, I'm enjoying my investment. Best decision so far 👌. |
| Re: Mutual Funds by Oluseun234: 4:48pm On Oct 08 |
Gotocourt:Thanks. I will tell them to stop the process next week 😠😞. Luckily for me, I have not credited my regular savings for the activation of the fixed deposit so no date has been entered on the form but just principal +duration + auto renewal which I signed on the form because I live so far from the regional office. So I was told once the money arrives, they will enter the date and proceed due to transport cost. Is the Emmasoftlink on their app? Or it's separate? I thank God for this platform. A lot of us will have made misinformed financial decisions. Thanks too 🙏 |

Oluseun234:Hi, It's an intentional thing from bank staffs, they do an appraisal of you should you meet them asking about MMF and they can quickly tell people with limited knowledge, so they try to convince you to invest in fixed deposits and discourage you from investing in MMF using different scare tactics in order for them to meet their targets and earn commissions Call their bluff, infact you do not need to visit any branch to complete the necessary steps to opening and running your MMF account |
| Re: Mutual Funds by Oluseun234: 6:32pm On Oct 08 |
t33why:Okay. 🙏🤗. I am just happy I have not put the money in my standard for the fixed otherwise I will have to wait for 6months to terminate the auto renewal. Next week, it's me and them. I will do as you all advised. Pls how have been withdrawals for you on that app? How has been the success rating from January this year. I hope you have not experienced a lot of log-in issues or withdrawal delays. Thanks |

@Oluseun234, I hope you understand very well what @Freeman67, @Gotocourt, @t33why and others posted. Please be well guided don't let the bank change your investment objectives. For any prospective investor, please note: the banking hall should be the last place you think of going when you want to start your investment journey. In most cases, the people there are primarily focused on selling banking products especially fixed deposits, which help the bank retain your money and meet its targets. If you must go to a bank, know exactly what you want before you walk in and insist on your choice irrespective of any suggestion from the officers. Don’t go there expecting comprehensive investment advice or guidance. In many cases, you may come out more confused than when you went in. The experience of @Oluseun234 has also reinforced something I have consistently pointed out: the fact that an asset management company belongs to the same holding company as a bank does not mean the two are the same when it comes to your investment. They are separate business entities, with separate operations and responsibilities. One does not automatically answer for the other. They are each running their own businesses and pursuing their own objectives. It is often those of us looking from the outside who assume they are the same because they share the same logo, colours or parent company. So, look beyond the logo and colours. Understand the specific company you are investing with, the product you are buying, the risks involved, who regulates it, who the custodian is, and what happens to your money if things go wrong. It’s good thing you are here now. I'm sure you will learn more while here. I tried posting earlier but kept getting banned these days. I also sent you a PM. I wish you the very best in your investment journey. |
