PRP Presidential Candidate, Donald Duke Promises ₦300 Per Litre Of Petrol

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Donald Etim Duke has vowed to bring the price of fuel to about ₦300 per litre, if elected as Nigeria’s President in 2027.

Duke made the pledge Wednesday 7 October 2026 on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, and also expounded on his plans for the economy plus his expectations for the 2027 election.

According to him, slashing the price of gasoline would be one of his cardinal measures because of the role the product plays in the country’s economy.

He stressed that availability and affordability of fuel are important to the productivity of Nigerians and the wider economy.

Asked what he considered a realistic price for petrol under his administration, Duke responded:

“Try and bring it to about ₦300. I’ve said several times that the function of government is to ensure the productivity of their citizens within a safe and orderly environment.

“Fuel drives your economy. It should be available. It should be affordable,” he said.

This one’s a joke of a candidate—how exactly does he plan to bring fuel down to ₦300? Does he think Nigeria owns 100% of its crude, or is he ready to forfeit crude revenue and run the federation aground, just like he did with Tinapa, thanks to his zero foresight?

No, he didn't. Atiku will introduce production subsidies that will reduce the price of locally refined fuel and help bring down the price of fuel. He will do this because he has no stake in Malta refineries abroad.

Atiku’s subsidy plan has penetrated the grassroots and some other aspirants who previously thought they will gain points for being seen as "consistent" are now making a u-turn. You cannot afford to be consistent in backing a policy that has turned out to be a disaster.

The opposition are in a fierce contest for who can be the most ridiculous because the eventual winner will take the most of the obidient voters, since they have high affinity for such grandiose delusions and barefaced deceit

Same field, same play tool and basically the same kind of skill.

Yes Nigeria owns its crude, so it can legitimately supply local refiners at a domestic price, as other producers do. He's right that world prices needn't dictate what Nigerians pay, and that high fuel costs hit low-income workers hardest.
But it's a subsidy paid as forgone export revenue, roughly $12bn a year on his own figures, with no word on who absorbs it. His $45 cost implies about N380 a litre at 1,340 to the $, above his N300, and cheap crude doesn't guarantee a cheap pump price.
The $12bn figure doesn't depend on the exchange rate, since it's in dollars (about $55 a barrel of discount on 600,000 barrels a day).

It now clearly shows the opposition candidates have nothing to offer Nigerians than deceit or at best preparing to return Nigerians back to Egypt.

How Indorama sustains manufacturers, boosts Nigeria’s FX earnings

Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited (IEPL) has emerged as a major value creator in the Nigerian economy. It is responsible for the survival, growth and sustenance of many manufacturing companies in Nigeria today. A large number of plastic and allied firms depend on the Eleme-based company for petrochemical resins (or polymer resins) which serve as their raw materials.

The petrochemical company is just one of the several subsidiaries of Indorama-Nigeria Group, which also comprises Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL), Indorama PET Nigeria Limited, and Indorama Port Operations.

Since Indorama Corporation of Indonesia became core investor in the old Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited (EPCL) in 2006 through privatisation programme of the Federal Government, the group has become a game changer in the Nigerian economy.

The petrochemical company has solved the major challenge facing a number of manufacturers— poor access to raw materials. Rather than scramble for foreign exchange to import inputs, the company ensures that manufacturers have access to their critical raw materials, enabling them to save costs and improve margins.

The major resins used by plastic and allied companies are polyethylene and polypropylene. Indorama produces about 45 grades of these products for various industries. About 600 of such companies in Nigeria depend on IEPL for their survival. They are estimated to have over 90,000 workers.

Nemere2020:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”
