Last year the government ordered that the road should be rebuilt. There's a video of Umahi's confrontation with officials of the construction company. The road was concessioned to a private company by the previous government.

The company damaged the road instead of maintaining it. Government wanted to void the contract, but the company would have sued the government, so they couldn't do anything.

The contracr has now expired, so government can take over the road.

The roads in the SE and SS are concessioned to non existent companies but the ones in Lagos are awarded to HITECH even when it was not appropriated in the budget,funds were made available , even borrowed funds.

I have always hated that idea right from the 1980s. Governments rush projects and commission uncompleted projects just to claim credit, while they abandon porjects started by their predecessors just so that they can't claim credit.

In any case it has nothing to do with our discussion. This thread is not about the South-East and my statement stands. New roads are being built and old roads are being repaired since the beginning of this administration.

The issue of strategic is in the eye of the beholder.

To some people Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is more strategic, to others Abuja-Kaduna Expressway is more strategic.

Besides, the government did not abandon the Benin-Asaba Expressway till 100 days to election.

That will never happen. All over the world new roads are built and old roads are repaired. To think that a day will come when all old roads will be repaired first before a new road is built is to live in fantasy land. It has never happened in this country (and in other countries around the world) and it will never happen.
