Viral Video Shows Ebonyi Commissioner Slapping Woman, NSCDC Officer Kicking Women

A viral video has sparked public outrage after Ebonyi State Commissioner for Capital City Development and Urban Planning, Richard Ugo Idike, was allegedly seen slapping a woman during an arrest operation in Abakaliki.

The footage also reportedly shows an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) kicking women during the operation, which led to the arrest of more than 30 suspected sex workers at a guest house.

Authorities reportedly said the operation was prompted by security concerns and the alleged discovery of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

The incident has raised concerns about the treatment of suspects during law enforcement operations, with calls for professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights.
