For those of us that attended Sir Force Primary School and Air Force Secondary School, Ikeja between 1986 and 2000, we know that the Air Force Base in Ikeja was a mess before this man took over. I believe there is someone that can take over Nigeria and clean it up but the person may likely not last like Sam Ethnan and Musa Yaradua

I usually see the barrack on my way to the airport. I thought he was from Calabar/ Akwa Ibom axis based on the name.

it's a different entity and the military base is ruled by order to that in a democratic settings will be difficult... Look at tax law, coastal road, state police, minimum wage and the likes it's not very easy to bring changes in democratic settings without Being and autocratic... Asking soldiers to come out and clean their surroundings is different ball game.... A citizens took the Lagos government to court over sanitation..

He introduce compulsory barracks cleaning and sanitation, ordered planting flowers and greeneries.

Hecwas a disciplinary, he reduced crime in the base by givinout strict punishment to culprits.


He introduced waste bag for packing wastes,

He ordered the removal of domestic animals, poultry from the barracks, before, goat, sheep's, fowl were reared in the base

He did lots of things that transformed the barracks to what it is today .

This was in the early 2000s, around 2001, i was still in primary sch then.

His death shocked everyone

Everything you wrote there is correct but he was not entering anybody house. He inspect your block surrounding and your drainage especially if you are finding wanting he might asked all the rooms to be locked or ask them to pack out..

Police and Army barracks are trash, I grew up in Police barrack so I know that.

So, in training & skill, he was a "Air Traffic Control Officer and Fighter Controller"?

A monument should be named after the Flight captain of the ill-fated Airforce 931 plane that crashed in the swamp in Ondo state.

Squadron Leader Mahmoud .I. Aburime the heroic pilot avoided populated areas and crashed in that swampy area to save lives. He was also a Postgraduate student at a University in Benin.

A conference center, a street, or Airforce workshop should be named after Sqdr Ldr Mahmoud Aburime inside the base.

My brother nothing. Apart from heading to Benin then. Infact the way things are going I won't be surprise to hear one day that they lost one warplane to non state actors

One of the neatest barracks in Nigeria he really did a good job by changing the orientation of the officers and men of the barrack even after his death the place is still neat

Make I give you one update. There is a clean, nice hotel there and it's considerably cheaper than what you get outside

First-hand experience here!

This one's sweeping reforms remodelled the thinking among the dependants of the base and indoctrinated healthy living, hygiene and responsibility among the personnel and their families.

I remember waking up, along with my mates, and parents, at 0400hrs to treat our drainage systems, trim our block gardens and make sure everywhere looked clean and span.

His extensive reforms reached personnel that refused to provide upkeep for their families; Oga made sure they fixed up their rooms with good furniture and live peacefully with their spouses.

Parkinbecame one-lane, zero tolerance for double-parking.

He had lofty ideas for the dependants of personnel and was in the middle of establishing some kind of youth development or capacity building when news of his sudden demise filtered through the base.

I cried. We all cried. Because here was this Oga that brought so much revolution and became a generational icon that death took away just like that! It hurts us deeply.

Rumours spread that his death was a spiritual attack; unsubstantiated though.

Until tomorrow, blocks still compete for the most beautiful spaces and awards with plaques deployed — it was bragging right to win such yearly awards.

Can't remember whether my block won any, but block T9 was among the blocks to beat back then.

Kudos to him, he changed the narrative, no wonder the base is so clean, army and police barracks be like piggery.

smile.... There is no time he went into any airmen house to inspect maybe you are confusing it knocking their doors and asking them to come out and clean their blocks.... We always follow him about to every block he is going to and once he made example of one block especially when he ask the people in T block (forgotten the number) to pack out and move to L from 2 bedroom to one bedroom every other block fall in line...... I know what talking because I was born and brought up in that particular barracks
