Omo Yankee, to buy Nigerian Treasury Bills from the US, you’ll need to go through a Nigerian bank or a licensed discount house that offers such services to non-resident investors. Zenith Bank and other big commercial banks do this, charging about 0.125% fees on your investment. Minimum investment usually starts from around N100,000, but some institutions may require more due to paperwork and fees. Auctions happen bi-monthly, with dates published on the CBN website and financial news portals like ProshareNG. You place a competitive bid through the bank or dealer, specifying the yield you want. Remember, T-bills are discounted instruments, so your effective yield is slightly higher than the quoted rate. If you want, I can help connect you to a reliable dealer in Nigeria to guide you through the process. |

One thing to note is that “safe” only really applies if you hold till maturity. If you need the money before then and sell in the secondary market, the price can be different from what you paid. Also, the auction calendar and minimum amount should always be confirmed with your bank/CBN because those details can change. |

| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by skydiver01: 1:23pm On Oct 29 |
Wow, this is the lowest allotment across all tenors in recent times particularly the 364 days... Lots of failed bids...ouch. Whilst oversubscribed, the rates of range of bids were higher than the CBN was prepared to issue the TBills at... Interesting development... suggests continued efforts to bring rates down. Thus, I would be surprised if the range of bids at the next auction exceeds 16.5% ![]() Odunharry: |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Odunharry(m): 1:46pm On Oct 29 |
skydiver01:Funds are gradually moving to other assets. We have seen subscription few months back at around 4tr to 5tr, compared to yesterday's <2tr. It's possible the range of bids hovers around 16.5%. We might get to see rate before December at sub 16%. Baba show us the way to Bond ![]() |

I have shown it repeatedly oooo.. and other asset classes work too... diversification is key. For example, this time round, I opted not to compound my March 2036 Bond coupon payment ![]() Odunharry:

skydiver01:Time to look at Bond now that rate is dropping |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by skydiver01: 9:21pm On Oct 29*. Modified: 6:49am |
Yes, I agree if you don't already have bonds. Current yields may not necessarily be as attractive to existing bondholders who purchased at higher yields. Whilst I recommend bonds, the tenor of bonds may not be suitable to some investors even though they can be sold (in some cases at punitive yields) on the secondary market. Thus it is important their tenors align with investor objectives. Personally, I materially moved to bonds before the enforcement of WHT on TBills which made bonds more attractive ![]() Odunharry: |
