Motorists in Minna the Niger state capital have besieged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC mega station in the state capital in protest over the non availability of the Compressed Natural Gas CNG.

The protesters lamented that the shortage has defeated the aim of converting their vehicles to CNG as a cost-saving measure. They complained that when they stormed the the NNPC Mega Station along the Western Bypass axis that they were frustrated over the prolonged shortage.

This persistent shortage has imposed additional financial burdens on vehicle owners, who now face increased transportation costs while struggling to keep their vehicles running.

He said “It is so discouraging, that for three months now, the CNG station at NNPC Minna has not functioned. Imagine that since January some people did conversion, they have not recovered their money.

“The CNG broke down, nobody has spoken to us. We have come here several times demanding answers from the management and nobody is talking.

“So for now, we want to bring the attention of Nigerians and those in authority to the situation in Minna. CNG is the heartbeat of the President. He commissioned a committee to look into these scheme and these people are taking us for granted”.

Another motorists, Mohammed Doko Saidu who expressed his displeasure over the development, said he wondered why Government championed the conversion to CNG without ensuring there were adequate facilities across States to meet the needs of motorists.

He said “the frustrating aspect of all this is that I just installed CNG, spending over a million naira, without a single gas in Minna; hoping that it is going to be fixed today, it is going to be fixed tomorrow and up to this moment, there is nothing.

“Nobody is saying anything, the station is just lying fallow. In short, I have to disconnect some of the cylinders Installed in my car because there is no gas, what kind of government are we in? It is frustrating”.

The protest, which was very peaceful, saw the motorists call on the station’s management and concerned stakeholders to urgently address the situation and restore CNG supply or risk another round of protest which, he said would involve a much larger crowd of aggrieved motorists including commercial tricycle operators who run on CNG

The Manager of the NNPC Mega Station could not be reached for comments at press time, as attendants on duty declined to speak on behalf of Management.

When the APC government was campaigning for CNG, I told some friends that it will not remain cheap and accessible for long.

If everyone migrates to the use of CNG, they will raise the prices such that you will regret dump fuel as a source of energy for your car..

They did it with cooking gas. In the 90s, 90% of households in cities used kerosene for cooking. Then thr government came with their campaign for cooking gas. Every housefire mishap was blamed on kerosene explosion.

Cooking gas was cheap, so people dumped kerosine stove. Few years later the price of cooking gas grew exponentially and almost beyond the reach of many households.

So if they were not in power in the 90s, what have they done to correct the wrongs that were done in the 90s?

In every country, the present government tries as much as possible to rectify issues that they met on the ground.

Some of you Nigerians are seriously sick in the head.

Have said this many times and I will say it again the MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS GOVERNMENT IS THEY ARE TOO FAR FROM THE PEOPLE'S REALITIES. Most of them don't travelled by road, they don't buy fuel or cooking gas, many things they used are free paid by tax payers money, even data some of them doesn't know what it cost . So how can they know masses pain when the leaders never feel the pain. This is why it is easy for them to say anything. Until Nigerians realised that they are not there to fattening their pocket but to serve US then we will continue to suffer.. on a good day from the masses point just tell me on what bases should Nigerians vote for APC again. These suffer never reach us huh

Gboju gboju government. All Promises Cancelled should be the full meaning of APC under this Tinubu government.
I have never witnessed a leader as heartless as this current president.
He is only serving himself and his immediate family and few of his heartless followers.

The solution to removal of subsidy is not CNG. Te simple solution is to start connecting states ..and region with rail. U can easily move masses to rail.. in fact people will park their cars. For example..Lagos blueline carried 2.38m passengers in 15 months.

Until we accept the truth on who we are as "a people", we will just be going round in circles.

NNPC, please do your job and stop making money from people's hardship, like you have always done.
