Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.

2 Corinthians 2:17.

The English word "peddle" is the Greek word, "kapēleuō" and from the root word, kapelos which means a huckster. By definition in English, it means to be a retailer, to make money by selling anything. It means to get sordid gain by dealing in anything, to do a thing for base gain. It means to trade in the word of God for money or personal gain. It means to try to get base gain by corrupting and adulterating divine truth. A peddlers were in the habit of adulterating their commodities for the sake of gain and all these rings a bell in our days.

Apostle Paul outrightly made it clear that those who peddle the word of God for profit are so many. This we cannot overlook in our days with the end time churches. The question then goes, who are these people that peddle the word of God for profit and how do we recognize them?

Hmmm!

It is very obvious that many a "christian" he will not like this thread.

Why? Because many are into christianity not because of the love of God or christ but because of the money the hope to make.

How then will people (christians) allow this fundamental bible truth to slide down without a simple appreciation?

Thank you bro. I didn't want to teach alone so I decided to make it the participative type.

Peddling the word of God for money is now the norm in most of our churches these days sad however the prosperity gospel merchants and customers have taken this despicable practise to a new low. Examples of those who teach this evil abound but I would not mention names for now as some victims might feel the need to defend their MOGs if their names are mentioned and end u derailing the thread.

2 Corin 11:13-15
"These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. But I am not suprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the PUNISHMENT THEIR WICKED DEEDS DERSEVE."

All we can do is point out the truth to those who bother to listen , many in so called Christendom have ears that are dull of hearing.

One thing we can learn from certain people who fight against these revelations is that without the tithes and offerings the source of their wealth and livelihoods will suddenly collapse. They are in it for the money.

Those who peddle the word of God for profit are portrayed in this verse also, they take advantage of men (the weak ones) for the purpose of profit and gain.

Jude 1:16

Amplified Bible (AMP)
These are inveterate murmurers (grumblers) who complain [of their lot in life], going after their own desires [controlled by their passions]; their talk is boastful and arrogant, [and they claim to] admire men’s persons and pay people flattering compliments to gain advantage.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English (©2010)
These are those who murmur and complain in every matter while they walk according to their desires, their mouth speaks guiltiness, and they flatter persons for profit.

Most christians only want to hear the teachings that centers on prosperity, healings and deliverance without paying heed to the other teachings of christ. A pastor that deliberately builds his ministry on these can be said to peddle the word of God for profit.

Goshen360: ^^^ You mean like selling anointed oil, mantles and making merchants of the people of God

Oil, extra-biblical literatures, cds etc etc, all should be given freely to members. This money are from the offering given by members, why sell again? i recieved several literatures from a church in the US, free without charge of posting nothing. my church recently gave cds, books to kids nothing was requested from parents. And this cds are very good well animated. But my kids got them for free, this is how a church should operates. Selling stuffs in Church is wrong!

Many examples abound. Let's talk about the "men of God" who proffer fasting as a biblical solution to problems. They ask people to fast for 40 days and above or to pay them to fast on their behalf knowing fully well that the average man would rather pay for the fast.

Shall we also mention those who have turned my God to a money doubler? Those who equate him to baba ijebu or those who instill fear in the hearts of the members? Luring the congregation to give to God with the sole aim of receiving in return. Infact, almost all churches are guilty of coercing members into giving.

They flatter people with what they will gain and coerce them give or sow seeds just to enrich themselves.

The need to serve God has been thrown away from church windows. They threw it away and locked their windows so people wount see what it means to serve God in truth and in spirit.

Christ said, not all that call him Lord Lord will enter into the kingdom of God. This include those that cast out demons in his name and those that make sowing seed their priority for personal gains. Our God is seeking true worshipers. Seek first the kingdom of God and every other things will be added unto you.

Those that call themselves men of God wants you to sow money but the Father wants us to sow true worship to reap His kingdom and every other things we desire.

God loves a cheerful giver not a compelled giver.

The term seed sowing has a broader perspective in scriptures..it might be words, time, patience, kindness, love, encouragement, money..etc. If people term "seed" as money i don't see anything wrong with it..There is a place of partnership in ministry.

The highlighted says it all, christians are required to minister to the genuine needs of each other and their leaders and not just the greed of their so called MOGs. Today it is quite glaring that it is greed that is motivating all these preachers who keep asking for more under various guises.

My post is very very balanced. May be you didn't read the part i wrote, God loves a cheerful giver not a compelled giver.

From where you quoted in Phil, you will see that those that gave did it with out compulsion. Paul earnestly sought the fruitage that it will bring to them and not mainly the gift. He did this without compelling them but by telling them the importance of giving to those in NEED.

In v18, he told them that he is full and have abundance by their gift. Giving(sowing seed) should not be a routine that is place at the feet of one man who is full and wants to become over full. There are those in need every where. Sow you seed with them. That what Christ taught his disciples. That is why they think this way when Jesus told Judas their treasurer to do what he ought to do fast.

New International Version
(©1984)
Since Judas had charge of
the money, some thought
Jesus was telling him to
buy what was needed for
the Feast, or to give
something to the poor.

Sowing seed should be for those in need.

Also, preachers who invites themselves to one another's church and uses that oppotunity to raise money from God's people for one another are of those that peddles the word of God for profit. Preacher 'A' is invited to Preacher B's church and 'B' raises money for 'A' and 'A' does the same to 'B' at another time, rotating the game. cool
