An absolute waste of state funds. They should have just purchased the TOYOTA or PEUGEOT brands that are rugged instead of the Fiber and plastic KIA RIO brand.
I bet you (with my life)the Nigeria Police that i know will damage those cars in a matter of weeks using it to chase okada riders, commercial buses, and driving against traffic. Their mentality for taking care of expensive things are not ripe yet may be in the next 50 years.I stand to be corrected.

Dont mind the guy, ghana police only use old and cheap tata vehicles. The most expensive Ghana police cars were donated by our own OBJ, that was why they named a popular highway in Accra after him.
craze dey worry you, huh? when did OBJ donate vehicles to the Ghana police? he'll be mad to do that when the nigerian police don't have vehicles grin grin grin you better stop taking your nonsense burukutu! Ask any nigerian living in Ghana to tell you about the Ghana Police, especially their new patrol cars that are everywhere!

I know the Ghana police bought a few PAN Peugeot vehicles to try them and see if they were good enough but found them to be poor quality so did not order for more. They were not donated. Produce concrete evidence, not hearsay or molue gossip, to substantiate your claim they were donated. Can you give what you don't have? the nigerian police desperately needed patrol vehicles and then your president will 'donate' to another country, whose police force is even better equipped? is that not crass madness?

I have seen police teams go out on patrols in Lagos with only three of the five officers having antiquated guns while the remaining two had only batons! Batons to confront fully armed robbers? dat na suicide now, abi? abeg make I no laugh. Tis too early for that crap. come to Ghana and see the brand new patrol vehicles used by the police. Look the Ghanaian police have swag oooh. I just love their patrol 4x4 vehicles. They are the best police cars in west africa. if I tell you the story of the nigerian police, you'll cry. I did a study of the nigerian police a few years ago and not only shocked, but was extremely appalled at was I observed.

And the Ghanaian police is by far the best paid in West Africa. how much is a nigerian police paid? the last time I heard 50 recruits were sharing a fish head during lunch. grin grin grin chei, accidental discharge, kill-and-go, bulalala, naija police na swegbe dem be oohh. but can you blame them. come and see how an average Ghanaian policemen and woman looks like in Ghana, and compare it to their nigerian colleagues! chei grin grin grin

How will you say hilux comes with a V8 engine?

Your statements are mere assumptions made by a mind biased against this initiative. Arm-chair deductions at its best.

Just because they have dilapidated cars that were once new doesn't mean they should not be funded again.

Tell me, if you were the governor, how would you have assisted the police?

Always get your facts right...

Lol.. First off, sorry about the v8 thing.. I only just saw it now.

Secondly.. It's not an assumption that a V8 and a V6 engines would always out run a V4 engine. That's a fact.

I didn't say that the police should not be given new cars, I simply said they should have been fitted with front metal grills sort of like the US patrol cars. That way, even if they have to ram another vehicle, the damage to theirs is limited.

If I were a governor, I would do what Gov. amaechi of Rivers did. Get into an agreement with the police, pick out like 200 - 400 (depending on cash flow) and send them on training abroad. Have you seen the Rivers State Counter terrorism police team trained by the Rivers State government? Their professionalism is unrivalled anywhere. They don't take bribes, their AK-47 comes with complete full tactical attachments and their uniform is somewhat different. They conduct stop and search randomly, carry around highly trained police dogs and their efficiency is higher.

It's not about the car a policeman uses that determines his efficiency. If you like, put them in a Range Rover Sports Autobiography, complete with spinning rims, T.V in the head rest and even neon lights.. If they are still the same useless Nigerian police we know, they would only be the useless police that drive around in Range Rovers.

Go and see the state of the Pick-up trucks used for community policing that Rochas bought for Imo State, today they are a wreck. Before handing out expensive vehicles, how about you train them on how to drive and obey traffic rules teach them decorum. Teach them to handle the vehicle with extreme care. Teach them how to service the cars every 5000 km driven. Train them in how to effectively utilise these vehicle and maximise its use. Just like the Hiluxes before them, the Prados before them, the 406s before them, the 504s before them, these will also end up n the gutters.

In fact, does Sullivan really have a plan of action for these cars or is it just 'take, use it and drive around like you normally do'. If yes, what induction/training was given to the policemen that would use these cars before it was given out. Were these officers given any special training? Like defensive driving training, hot pursuit training, pit-stop manuver training, e.t.c..

I got my facts right my guy. You on the other hand need to learn how to reason on a broader scale.

To add to what K4 said, the Ghana police even handle their vehicle much better than we do. Their patrol cars consists of Land Rover Defenders, Pick-up trucks and some 406s and 206s when I was there in the early 2000s. Those cars were well driven and taken care of. What destroys most Nigerian Police vehicles is almost always escort duties. When they drive like fucktards when escorting bank bullion vans or one rich man or the other.

Like I said, Good idea, bad execution.

And also note; I didn't even mention the fact that Kias are not durable vehicles by nature, then placed in the hands of Charles's Nigerian police.... Imagine the outcome.

First you discount a grave error as mis-quoting the specs of the hilux and quickly interject with a notion that v6 will always outrun v4.... what is V4? I guess you mean inline 4 cylinders. Your assertion is however subject to debate.

Next you lied by saying you mentioned metal grill fronts...NO YOU DID NOT and you can revert from the quotes...

Your actions as a would be governor is actually commendable and I believe if the select corps were well trained, they would actually perform effectively

Your facts were not totally right though your propositions are very worthy.

You can't compare Ghana to Nigeria. Lagos alone will cause great headache for the whole Ghana police force...

The governor is at least trying to make a difference...let's encourage him.

Stop lying from your assss cos I know Ghana inside out.
Nigerian police are paid better than Ghana police. Nigerian police use better and more expensive vehicles that Ghana police can only dream of. I have just left Ghana and Nigeria 2 months ago, Ghana police still use old TATA/Mahindra vehicles from India while in Nigeria our police use brand new PRADO SUV, 406, Hilux trucks etc.

Its on record Nigerian banks in Ghana even pay higher than Ghanaian banks. Once Nigerian banks opened offices in Ghana Ghanaian bankers started moving to Nigerian banks in droves.

Nigerian actors are paid higher than Ghanaian actors, fact.

Nigerian footballers in Nigerian league are paid better than their counterparts in Ghana, fact.

Ghanians teachers move to Nigeria in droves to get better pay packages they couldn't get in Ghana, fact. Most Nigerians in Ghana are either self employed or working for Nigerian companies in Ghana. I am yet to see, for instance a Nigerian teacher that left his teaching job in Nigeria to teach in Ghana- IMPOSSIBLE. Primary school teachers in Nigeria drive cars while university lecturers in Ghana are poor.

Less than 2 months ago Ghanaian doctors were on strike for over 1 month bc their salary is shit and the Ghana government claim they are too poor to increase their salary.

There is no way you can match the pay package here. Even your richest musicians are poor to tie the shoe lace of Nigerian musicians. In your own country Samini was paid only 5k dollars while Psquare was paid 300k USD to perform on the same stage? What does that tell you? That we are your oga at the top and you gotta respect us for that.

Like I said already, Nigeria is poor but not as poor as Ghana. Even Nigerian COMEDIANS are by far richer than Ghanian musicians. I am sure you people will still blame it on corruption or fraud, that is why Nigerian musicians, actors and comedians are rich?

In fact, merely entertaining the idea of spending fund meant for well-being of Enugu State citizens on Nigerian police warrants public execution. It appears certain moronic governors can not handle the business of state yet they try to stray into the domain of federal government. What business does Gov. Chime have with Nigerian police?

How effective would a V4 KIA Rio be in a chase against a V6 vehicle? Very ineffective.
Against a V8 vehicle even worse.
The effectiveness of the police can never be measured by the car they use. Remember that the existing Hilux vans were also given to them brand new. The Hilux is a V8, 4wd drive car that is also all terrain. Yet they wrecked them. At some point, they were also given Prado SUVs which they also wrecked.
The Nigerian police would wreck these cars in no time. That's why we a re not so excited about this move.

Again, the V8 hilux engine thing was a mistake.. Sadly, I can't do more than this to prove it to you. I am a car enthusiast and should at least know this.

On the debate regarding a V4 engine vs a V6 or V8 engine in a race, I think that should go without saying. That's why most vehicles that carry these V8 engines always carry very small body frames. E.g, Honda city, e.t.c.

Before you call me a lair in capital letters grin, open this link and see where I stated it... https://www.nairaland.com/1315722/mixed-reactions-enugus-kia-police/1

Well, I guess my points can always be modified and enhanced further, but again, I don't think I am wrong about anything I stated earlier..

On the Ghana matter, the point there has nothing to do with size but efficiency. For their size, they seem to be doing okay security wise. It's rare to see a Ghana Police car in the same battered condition you see Nigerian Police Hiluxes and Prados. Infact, it's not an uncommon site to see a rotted Nigerian police hilux at junctions and round abouts. It all about proper training my guy. I know that every Nigerian police officer can move a car, but I can bet that very few know traffic rules. Less than 5% have attended a defensive driving course either. Ghana police somehow seem to low how to maintain and preserve their patrol vehicles way way better than the Nigerian police and this bothers me.

The point here is simply we can't keep recycling bullshit. I case you have forgotten, these cars are bought with our money. Every year we give out brand new vehicles to the police, to civilians as taxis and government parastatals as official cars and in under 1 year, those cars have been wrecked beyond recognition. The following year, we buy more and give to these same people. I'm sorry, but that's a fo0lish mans way of doing things. It's obvious we have a problem that Sullivan didn't solve before putting more of our money into the same cesspit. Next Gvernor of Enugu might just decide to buy BMW 745is for the police, by then, I can bet that the number of functioning police rios wouldn't be up to 30% of the original quantity.

I am not surprised you haven’t seen the Nissan double cabin V8 4x4 dark blue vehicles the police are cruising in around Ghana. The government bought more than 300 units of them for the police before the last elections.
Hahahaha your N20 N20 naira police are better paid, huh?

Why not start by telling us how much a gateman is paid in Ghana? I own homes and businesses in Ghana and a gateman/sales boy/girl is paid less than 80 Ghana cedis monthly which is about 6,000 Naira. Bankers at Ghana commercial bank and even Barclays are paid less than 400 cedis a month which is 30 something thousand Naira.

Even teachers are paid less than 20,000 naira in Ghana when their mates in Nigeria own cars: http://www.teachersolidarity.com/blog/ghana-teachers-demonstrate-for-unpaid-salaries

He is talking about police corruption as if Ghana police is not as corrupt? In Ghana I can kill anyone or commit any crime and get away with it as long as I pay bribe to Ghana police. Talking about bribe ask Ghana Taxi Drivers about Ghana police they will tell you more. Dont worry I am flying to Ghana within 3 weeks time I know how corrupt the police are I will video all their activities and put it online. Nigerian police collect 50 Naira bribe but in Ghana na coins (50 pecewas) taxi drivers dey give every police post:

Re: Mixed Reactions On Enugu's Kia Police Cars by InvertedHammer: 2:42am On Jun 08, 2013
Okija juju:

How effective would a V4 KIA Rio be in a chase against a V6 vehicle? Very ineffective.
Against a V8 vehicle even worse.
The effectiveness of the police can never be measured by the car they use. Remember that the existing Hilux vans were also given to them brand new. The Hilux is a V8, 4wd drive car that is also all terrain. Yet they wrecked them. At some point, they were also given Prado SUVs which they also wrecked.
The Nigerian police would wreck these cars in no time. That's why we a re not so excited about this move.

Have you ever seen NPF chase any vehicle before?

The governor should have given them a long bus to accommodate all the people they usually round up illegally at the drinking joints on trumped up charges especially as Xmas draws nigh. How many "suspects" can you fit in these small cars? Loss of revenue to the police,if you ask me. With the Hilux, they were able to squeeze in at least 6 suspects.

So, give them these Innoson buses and the streets will be rid of "criminals" every night.
80 "criminals" x N5,000 bail amount = N400,000 per trip.

I give these cars 1 year to exist.

Buying cars with scare government money shows the corruption going on in Enugu. Eventually, people will figure out why the governor likes to "buy" cars for people, I mean just about every body in Enugu. From traditional rulers, to civil servants, to political appointees, to his friends and families.
A relative in the state civil service complained that with 4 years, they had been 'forced' to accept governor's 'donated cars, with the balance deducted from thier salary.
Question is how much does the governor and his agents make off a unit of car "donated"?

According to the WHO, Nigeria is the most disease endemic country in the world as at the end of 2012. Malaria kills 300,000 nigerians every year and 97% of the population is at risk. Pneumonia kills 200,000 children in Nigeria every year. Out of the 60 million children that have stunted growth globally due to malnutrition, Nigeria alone accounts for 11 million of them and is predicted to have about 2.4 million additional stunted children by 2020. One out of five (11 million) chronically malnourished children in Africa live in nigeria. The statistics on child and maternal mortality is even worse.

Nigeria is ranked 187 out of 191 countries by WHO. Also, check out nigeria’s ranking on the Failed States Index, World Freedom Index, DuPont Food Security Index, Global Water Poverty Index.

DerideGull: In fact, merely entertaining the idea of spending fund meant for well-being of Enugu State citizens on Nigerian police warrants public execution. It appears certain moronic governors can not handle the business of state yet they try to stray into the domain of federal government. What business does Gov. Chime have with Nigerian police?

^^^I get your point, but the reality on ground is that if we make a strictly 'constitutional' interpretation of the relationship between the Enugu state gov't and the police; and the extent of the formers financial obligation to the latter, then i'm afraid it may get to a point that the NIGERIAN police in Enugu will be chasing robbers and other criminals on donkeys.
