Nuzo':Most times I would want to comment but when I see that someone has already spoken from my line of reasoning then it just makes me feel special, Real Men reason like Men ! The relevance of that wrecked car has been justified ! Thank God no police man died or sustained any serious injury. |

Okija juju: The story shock me sha...Bros make e no shock you okay? This is Coal City, the safest city in the country (lowest crime rate), suffice it to say that we have the most effective police in the country. You need to see how these cars prowl all the nooks and crannies of the city, you sef go dey discouraged to commit crime, no wonder the robbers where cornered in a short while. |

Policewoman: I agree with you and that is why i opted for the most basic option. Moreover, if there is a sort of agreement between our F.G and Rover to mass produce these cars, the costs will even be further reduced. The Indian police have been doing this with General Motors U.S, the makers of the Mahindra Legend Jeep.Your ideas are novel but does that imply these rugged vehicles would not suffer the same or similar damage in a gun battle? What is the cost benefit implication for buying a N10m SUV or a N2.5m sedan. Those rovers are more expensive and will crush if they fall into a ditch. What about the daily cost of maintenance? The rover will consume twice the quantity of fuel, oil etc than the kia... On a large scale that implies double costs. Can we afford it? Most developed countries use sedans for urban patrols and only SUVS for border runs ...we can adopt the same strategy.. Those pick ups cost twice and were used for arresting okadas....you can't put an okadas in those kia rios.... |

Policewoman: I will recommend the basic option landrover defender for use of the Police in Nigeria, instead of these toy cars.I'm pretty sure you don't know how much the kinda vehicle you re suggesting would cost. |

Okija juju: Bros.. You sef read the OPs post. He simply showed a pic of a damaged Police vehicle. He didn't state what led to it. I went with the best guess of typical police carelessness. And all I said was that it was a normal sight. You have a point here...we all have a mindset as regards their inefficiencies... However, let's give them a room to improve and let's commend them when necessary. |

Rooneyboy: What r u sayingTwo things are involved here. Either you re a criminal (yet to be caught) Or Planning to be one. Whichever it is, my advice to you is to change and luv the police force. Yes! We got bad eggs in them too but good ones sure exist. |

Okija juju: I recommended that as well on a previous thread on these kias..Police cars with extended metal bumpers imply only one thing....more aggressive behaviors on the roads...they will bump cars unnecessary same way they use current pick ups as ferries for arrested okadas.... give them sedans, train them as you suggested and give each unit a bonus pay for undamaged vehicles at the end of the year |

Moreover, if there is a sort of agreement between our F.G and Rover to mass produce these cars, the costs will even be further reduced. The Indian police have been doing this with General Motors U.S, the makers of the Mahindra Legend Jeep.I too love you this Policewoman.. Don't make me have to commit an offence that would force you to arrest me o! ![]() A supply and maintenance agreement can be reached with Range Rover for the supply of these cars.. We are not asking for vehicles with spinning rims and T.Vs in the headrest. Land rovers are not bulletproof and neither are the KIAs nor any other Police vehicles around the world. However, there is no arguing the fact that the Land Rovers are more rugged, versatile, better value for money, don't depreciate as fast, stronger than the KIA and to top it up is an all terrain vehicle. There is no guarantee that the Land Rover wouldn't crash, but as I have been advocating, if these drivers had the right professional training in security driving courses, the risk of damage to these cars would be limited. The fact that Enugu State Government isn't responsible for buying cars for the Police is mute. Well if he isn't responsible, then he shouldn't have. |

I was in Enugu on Saturday for a wedding when I saw those new cars. I had always known that the cars will still go the way of every other police vehicle, only that I didn't know it'd be this soon. |

Ochek: Open fire on the SUV as it was taking off abi? Later you would be the first to comment on how unprofessional they acted.Na wah o! Did I say opening fire on the SUV is the right thing to do? Nna men! I said I was shocked! This is not the standard Nigerian police behaviour. The Nogerian Police I know would have started shooting immediately their phone rang. The Nigerian Police I know would have opened fire the moment they saw aggressive movement inside the car after surrounding it. And you tell me that they surrounded a vehicle, it's occupants opened fire from within the vehicle and the Nigerian Police didn't return fire and if they did didn't kill them.. Infact, the suspects were not even injured but are still alive and in jail.. hmmmmmmmmm.... Something is wrong with that story. |

INFO70: Who gave precious things to dogs? lecturerdabo: as usual with NPF happened! You both are big dummies. A car was destroyed in a bid to prevent crime and you're here talking trash. I pray the rickety vehicles you will one day drive in the distant future will get stolen. Come back and tell us who you will report it to. And from the reactions from some of you,how would it be possible to effectively combat crime without a few crashes here and there. No wonder the police don't bother responding to distress calls anymore, I can just imagine a police officer reading some of the comments here. |

Denn: Your ideas are novel but does that imply these rugged vehicles would not suffer the same or similar damage in a gun battle?Your cost benefit ratio holds little water because in Nigeria currently, our roads are not as good as they have it in developed countries, where Sedans can be used at will by the police. 80% of Nigerian roads are offroad and therefore the sedans will suffer more wear and tear than the SUVs, thus damaging in a shorter period of time. I myself own a landrover SUV and i know what i'm talking about its durability. Fashi the maintainance cost, the Nigerian Police force can have in house police corps engineers stationed in each district to repair these cars when they can't be done by ordinary mechanics. It's all about planning. |

You claim cost benefit analysis is not necessary in your opening statement yet you end it with "it's all about planning" do you really know what planning is all about? You then quote that 80% of Nigerian roads are "off-road"....can you post the source or they are mere conjectures? You own a landrover, does that imply that we should all buy your brand? What about Jeep, GMC, BMW, Mercedes etc....are they not also durable? what about HUMMER? Do you know how much it costs to 'officially' repair a broken landrover engine? My emphasis on officially. Can you share with us the cost for shock absorbers, new doors, lights etc and how a simple police station will be able to accommodate the maintenance cost in their budget? There is a difference between day-dreaming and planning and dear, your ideas ain't practical in Nigeria for now....maybe on African Magic |

Afam4eva: It looks like an accident though. This is an isolated case as i don't know how often police cars are accidented. Though, the governor should have looked at using a stronger car.Even if they were driving Bentleys the case would have been the same and an accident will always damage the car. I agree though, it looks like an isolated incident and ultimately what should be the gauge of the success of this program would be reduced crime, increased public safety etc in Enugu. |

Denn: Read your post! You claim cost benefit analysis is not necessary in your opening statement yet you end it with "it's all about planning" do you really know what planning is all about?Huh? What's this dude going on about? Nigeria can't afford to purchase Land Rovers as our official Police vehicles?! I case you have deleted these from your memory card, let me remind you; COJA: Nigeria purchased over 300 BMW 3 Series for that event... CHOGM: More BMW 5 series this time.. ALGON alone Purchased over 1000 Toyota Prados for the Police, and the list goes on. So trust me when I say we can purchase those Land Rovers if we choose to.Why is Nigeria purchasing a more durable, efficient and practical vehicle such as a Land Rover (which we have used in the past to great success) a day dream? |

The united states law enforcement agencies buy between 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles EVERY year.... http://www.caradvice.com.au/134567/us-police-stock-up-on-ford-crown-victoria-shun-chevrolet-caprice/ Not some luxury edition landrovers but mostly the old ford and Chevy caprice...basic but functional vehicles |
