Our compound had changed totally. The two
bedroom mud house my Father built had been
replaced with a six bedroom mighty bungalow.
Some parcels of lands had been bought from our
kinsmen and added to our compound, then it had
been fenced and beautified with a huge gate with
the inscriptions ' Glory be to God'.

Hmmm sighs,Naija,The End Justifies the Means.

DRUG MONEY IN ACTION....

Chapter 7

The Police dragged one of the armed Robbers up to where I was with one of their members. They had captured him alive after the Rav4 escaped without stopping for him. The Police had also gunned one of them down, I had heard when he was shot and had heard him shouted but didn't know it was that severe. Blood was running down from his neatly shaven head when they brought him.

The Policeman who had been questioning me had asked me to sit on the ground which I obediently obeyed despite wearing a white Jean trouser.

''Na you called Honourable.....'' the team captain asked me,

''Yes sir'' I said' adopting my short answers style when the situation gets tough.
''Na you come back from Germany'' he asked again.
I nodded.

The BMW alarm was still wailing with the lights flashing. Some people living near the street had managed to come out but the Police had asked them to stand some meters away from the scene.
The robber who had been captured alive was talking fast. He was talking to nobody in particular. He denied being an armed robber but said his friend had called him to come out to that street so they could go to a club. He said they had found my car packed there and was trying to help me start the car.

The Police asked me to deactivate the alarm.
I went into the car and deactivated it. They asked me to turn around and follow them.
They had handcuffed the captured robber and had also dumped the bleeding dead one at the back of their pickup truck. One of them had found the keys of the mercedes on the ignition and had turned it around too, while two had entered my car.

They called my cousin at the government house and told him that I had been rescued. They told him there were taking us to the Anti Kidnapping headquarters in Abakiliki road. He said he was coming there as soon as possible.

Ten minutes later, we arrived at the Police anti-kidnapping station in Abakiliki road opposite the Etisalat headquarters in Enugu.

Another set of thieves had also been captured by the Police in Emene and were seated with their hands cuffed together.

I wondered what My Enugu had been turned into. I had made up my mind that as soon as the day broke, I was going down to the village to stay. My village was ten minutes drive from Enugu. I could have just stayed there and visited Enugu whenever I wanted but I guessed I had wanted to play the Euro returnee by wasting money in Hotels.

My Honourable cousin arrived with two other Policemen. He blamed me for following a stranger from a night club and advised that I stopped clubbing in Enugu at all. I had expected that anyway.

He spoke with the captain who later asked me to go. He asked for my phone number before letting me go. I promised to come there in the morning for clearance and other things as he had said.

I drove back with fear to the Barry gold hotel in New heaven where I had lodged. Two police men were sent to escort me back to the hotel.
When we got there, I asked them to wait for me while I get them something. I returned and gave them N5000. They thanked me and left.

The following morning, I returned to the police station to sign some witness files. They said they would soon charge the captured one to court and said they would contact me. I gave the captain a brown envelope containing N10000. I knew it was their job to protect and rescue me but it was also my duty to show some appreciation however I deemed fit.

I returned to the hotel and packed my bags inside the boot of my car.
I drove through Chime Avenue out to the Abakiliki road, then I diverted right beside NNPC mega filling station towards Enugu- Port Harcourt Expressway.
It was time to go home, Afterall it was home I had returned and not to spend my whole time in the metro area.

Chapter 8

The news of the armed robbery attack got to the village ahead of me. My mom was crying when I drove into the compound. My honourable cousin had called my elder brother who had in turn, called my parents. They were told that nothing happened to me but since they had not seen me and had not gotten me on the phone, they assumed something bad had happened.

I stepped out of my car with some smile of assurances on my face. My mother saw me and stopped crying.
She bombarded me with questions.
I narrated the ordeal to them but left out the dangerous parts.
I even lied that I was fighting them off before the police arrived. I made the whole story looked like I was a superman who didn't even need the help of the police. I needed to prove to my mother that I could take care of myself anytime anywhere.
I boasted to them how my car can never be stolen by car snatches. I told them that the security in the car could detect a change of driver and would stop ten minutes from the starting point if the new driver's facial features and retina were not coded into the security system. They were all marveled at the German machine. They should be marveled because no other person was driving a BMW of that grade and model in the whole community.

When people left our compound after drinking more thanksgiving beers, I quietly carried my bags to my room and slept. I was tired.

I woke up around 2 pm and drove back to Enugu. I boought a new TV for my room and bought two satellite decoders, cables and dishes.
I called an electrician who wired the TV and made my place look like I was in the city.

The Barry Gold management had agreed to refund one week rent back to me. I had explained to them that I was attacked and that I needed to leave Enugu. After some logic and counter logic, they agreed to refund N21,000.
I had told them that the armed robbers followed me from their hotel.
I had used the MONEY to purchase a ram for Salaka (Thanksgiving).
The ram was killed two days after the attack and was cooked with Numerous yam tubers. More than 10 cartons of beer were downed by the villagers and it wasn't even enough.

The local girls were upping their games. Some were busy targeting my mother. They would fetch waters, firewood and even weed our large compound since there was no interlocking on it yet. They would sweep the large compound and cook for us.
I pretended not to have noticed that it was all being done because of me. Two of them were particularly beautiful to my standard but still needed a lot of brushing up to get to where I wanted. As a result, I carried two of them to Enugu and bought them the same number of cloths and shoes. I brought them back after eating at the MR Biggs near the Diamond Bank branch in Agbani road. they hardly said much since they knew I was not going to date both of them. They were from the same extended family. I knew all that too but I didn't care. If I ever decided to go for any of them, I already knew which to go for.
The other girls had gradually withdrawn their services to my mother since they heard about the Enugu trip with Chioma and Nneka.

A day after the Enugu trip with the girls, they started fighting each other. They tore their clothes and accused each other of trying to snatch the boyfriend. There was nothing I could do, therefore I asked them both to stop coming to our compound.
My dad who had even started calling one of them 'My wife' decreed that they could come to our compound whenever they wanted. It wasn't a decree to argue, therefore I ignored it and warned the girls that the first of them to show up in my compound would lose me entirely.

I had also given them N5000 each to do whatever they wanted with it. Nneka had gone to a saloon and plaited the latest hairstyle in town. Chioma had used hers to buy more groceries for her stores.

People had started to troop into my compound every morning for hot drinks before going to their various businesses, as a result, I went to Enugu and bought three cartons of Aromatic Schnapp. Each carton contained a dozen bottles. I also bought some Expensive ones for myself.

Each morning, I would wear a sport kit and run for an hour along the tared road. The runnings started attracting other people as well. Chioma had also joined the running group, she was determined to do anything possible to win me. I as usual, feigned ignorance towards her advances and antics. If only she knew the things I had done in the past, she would have not attempted to trick Ozoigbondu 1.

The days started crawling slowly. I had started missing Europe again but I wanted to rest properly before heading to Holland. As a result, I started a different kind of Adventures. I would fill my fuel tank and head to a place I had never been.
On one of those trips, I found myself in Port Harcourt. It was a magnificent place but not properly planned. There were vehicle hold ups everywhere. I spent over an hour in one of the hold ups. it also rained all day.
I knew only an uncle there in Port Harcourt but I wasn't interested in Contacting him. I had enough money with me and needed no uncle to give me advice.
I usually hid money in the dashboard pigeon hole and under the driver's floor mats.
I made sure that I had the minimum of N50000 at every given time.

After clearing the hold ups in Port Harcourt, I located a hotel somewhere off Olu Obasanjo road. It was a small nice hotel hidden from the road. I rented a room for a night and strolled out into the Olu Obasanjo road with legs.

'' Hey how are you'' I said to one beautiful girl I had found walking in the street. She was Plumpy with round backside. She had ignored my first greeting and continued walking. I followed her and kept making small jokes until one of the jokes got her laughing.
'' Why are you following me'' she had turned and said.

'' You see, this is my first day in this city and I need a friend'' I had said.

She had started walking again but slowly. I had kept up in line with her and had managed to got her name out.
She was Rose from Ikom but lived in Port Harcourt where she schooled. She had taken my phone number and promised to call around 8pm,

My net had caught a fish again.?

Chapter 9

''You called very late'' I said as soon as I picked Rose's call. It was already past 10 pm. I had waited for her to call since 8 pm but she didn't. The mistake I had made was that I didn't ask for her own phone number. I had believed that she would call.
I had decided that I would avoid such amateur mistake in the future.

''I am sorry, I was caught up in a hold up on my way back'' she had said.

''Where are you now Rose'' I asked hoping for the worst.
''I am waiting for a taxi to bring me to Olu Obasanjo road''

I told her to call me as soon as she got there. I walked down to my car and picked up a half bottle of Johnny Walker (JW) whiskey I had left under the dashboard in the front passenger seat.
I gulped a mouthful and swallowed it with hope and anticipation.
I had waited for Rose's call for hours and had lost hope of getting it. I had resigned to fate and was about to retire for the night when she called.

She got to Olu Obasanjo road and called me. I walked to the road and picked her up.
She asked where I had come from and what I was doing in Port Harcourt.

''I came from Enugu and I was just here to look around. I don't know anywhere around here'' I had answered her.

''There are many places to have fun in Port Harcourt in the night but we will need a taxi'' she said.
''I came with a car Rose'' I told her.

She was surprised and asked why I had not been driving it.
''I would have driven past you if I was in a car'' I joked.

She followed me back to the hotel and we picked my car up.

Port Harcourt was the second worst city to drive in Nigeria after Lagos. Despite the fact that it was late, people were still driving on top speed as if the city was being drowned like New Orleans.

She directed me as we drove to an area that was apparently unknown to me. We busted out in a major road and diverted left through a round about. We followed a bumpy road which she said led to Eagle Cement. The area was called Wempy. I had heard about eagle Cement football club before I traveled to Europe.

We stopped at a large newly built hotel which she claimed was built by a militant who had turned Politician. It was a nice hotel with two massive separate buildings. It had a swimming pool at the right side of it which also served as a reception center for for weddings and other parties.

Down the south end of the pool was a large grill with some Hausa workers smoking fresh fish.

We settled in a corner and rested before I asked what she wanted to eat.

''I want a smoked fish and a bottle of Baron De Valls'' she had answered.
''what is baron de vans'' I asked.
''it is not baron De vans, its baron De Valls. So you are the only person who don't know what baron De valls is. Its a wine'' she finished rambling.

I excused myself and walked down to the Grill.
All the Hausa fish workers were calling me to buy from them at the same time.
I wondered when that 'survival of the fittest' business attitude will cease in Nigeria.
I walked to the one in the middle, sensing that the others at the both entrances must be making sales more than him.

''how much is this'' I said as I pointed at a fish with a head as large as mine.

''siree souzan sir'' he said.
''Three thousand is expensive aboki, how much last'' I had said.

We eventually settled for N2500. I ordered for two knowing that Rose would want to take one home but that would be if we didn't finish it there.

I walked back to the bar and bought a bottle of redwine. Baron De Valls was written on the wine bottle. Rose had specifically mentioned it.
We opened the wine and poured half glasses each in front of us.
I sipped a little and disproved it instantly. It was tasting like something that was manufactured a day before.

My experience with red wine in Europe had thought me that wine tasted better as it gets older.
I excused myself and walked to the car to get my JW whiskey. I wasn't going to complicate my body system with that crap called wine.

We drank and waited for our fish which arrived over 30 minutes after ordering for it. It looked delicious and tasted the same.

We finished there and decided to swim, unfortunately Rose had no swimming trunks with her. I had none too but I was ready to jump into the pool with my boxers.

We drove back to the hotel at around 1 am. Rose had agreed to sleep in the hotel with me. It was going to be a good night.
