Every day ,my fellow Africans (By Africans I'm referring particularly to Nigerians, being the giant and the hope of Africa) besiege churches, mosques and other houses of prayer to supplicate and beseech the invisible god sold to our forefathers in the early and late parts 19th century by the European Trading Empires.

It is actually quite funny that my African brothers and sisters yearn to be raptured into space, but without first thinking of ever building a spaceship of their own.
Daaahhhh!

The sad irony of all this is that while we Africans waste precious time and brain power in these worthless supplications, the same Europeans, The American,The Russians, Japan, and the newly minted trading powerblocks of China, India and Brazil are blasting their rockets with men and materials into space almost every forthnight for exploration, research, and who knows what else.

Whatever it is they are all rushing into space for, I can assure you that it is not just to take fancy pictures for you.
In case you have not noticed, nearly all of the above mentioned nations have either already launched or have proposed lunar as well as unmanned and manned missions to Mars.

Also, in case you have not noticed, there has been a gradual but steady increase in the mentions of the subject of space resources, lunar mining, asteroid mining, and other space related memes.

So, while we little kindergarten children are kept very busy trying to unravel our cleverly and neatly wrapped religious toy packages, our more cranially dexterous trading superiors are, once again, exploring other frontiers of knowledge and wealth for conquest and domination.
If we can remember the last 400 years of human history, then it is beginning to look like deja vu all over again.

Although this article and the issue it addresses may seem nondescript, the implications for the future are very vast, for , again, all we especially the enslaved and later colonized Africans have to do is just look back at the past 400 years to see the same of pattern of explore, claim and exploit.
We should not forget the colonial frontiers of Africa were mere business trading projects. The boundaries of Africa were drawn along the property rights of the big trading Companies such as the Royal Niger Company.
So now, once again, we are seeing big well-financed trading companies justling for the property rights of space. They have starting blackmailing governments to grant them legal property rights to the bounties of space as a pre-requisite for their participation in space exploration.

And what does all this have to do with Africans and the rapture?
Well, be patient. I am coming to that.

If humans are going to be mining asteroids for gold, diamond and other exotic precious metals, a large workforce would be needed for such an undertaking, and for a very long time. At the initial stage the economics would simply not support a large labour force in space at the salary and expenses that would go with it.
Also, I am not so sure that labour laws and fundamental human rights would have any bearing on off-planet Companies operating non-terrestial activities.

Now, imagine a scenario where rapture-ready Africans are abducted, albeit this time, with cheerful eagerness, to new space colonies where they are once, again, enslaved, bred and genetically manipulated for the rigors of deep underground mining on the moon, on mars , or inside a moving asteroid.
Is that a far-fetched scenario?

I need to remind you Uyi that altruism, as noble as it is , is the not engine that drives human progress. It has never been.
It is usually an end product that come in small doses.
The problems of the world are solved slowly one at a time.
