I dont know why Yorubas cant swallow pride and move on. Thier leaders know that 100 Igbos that left Lagos 5000 Yorubas that go to bed empty stomach. Igbo traders employ mostly Yoruba domestic workers, from drivers to cleaners to nannies to gatemen to washers to gardners etc yet these e-rats wont admit it here but deepdown they know all is not well. Come to Fardock estate here at Iju,79% of the buildings are owned by Igbos, then check out the huge canal by the side of Fardock Estate, you will see poor squatters living side by side the slum, poor houses with rusty roofs, most have no bathroom, poor toilet, poor sewage system, you will see tombs inside rooms and beside gutters.....to my greatest dismay my inlaw told me that those slum dwellers were the ones that sold all the lands in Fardock Estate. He showed me one Rasheed whom he bought his land from,Rasheed is a slumdweller after selling more than 6plots of land to those Igbos. The wives of those slumdwellers are now working as domestic workers to those Fardock residents. My question is what did those Yoruba landowners do with the fortunes they realised from selling off those lands to the igbos in Fardock Estate? Nawaooo this is not funny |

The title of the post should be "WHO TURNED RESIDENTIAL AREAS IN LAGOS INTO MARKETS"?? If you aren't ignorant, you'll know that Lagos has been the Economic power house of Nigeria long before Independence............decades before the creation of Ladipo, Computer Village, Alaba etc. (Markets that should be closed down under sane climes). Its actually a person of inferior education or orientation that will conclude that those markets are the foundation of the Lagos Economy. When we talk about the corporate sector, you'll find they have less presence, same with transportation, construction and manufacturing. The Igbos on this forum that believe this fail to understand that "The customers make the trader" and not the other way round. If no one or only igbos patronize those shops, they'll probably be struggling to break even. Also, to those that boast that Igbos are buying land in Lagos, I'll say they're only re-investing in the Land that "Made" them to secure their future in it. Most of them owe their sucess to Lagos so they buy land and property in it to secure their future since its not guaranteed the same elsewhere. The least they can do is be humble and greatful that they were allowed to live and do business in it. |

Buddah Monk: I dont know why Yorubas cant swallow pride and move on.If you want to know an Igbo man that lies, he uses a lot of "Percentages" in his terminologies. When you get to the same estate he's talking about, you'll think it would be like a mini Enugu but you'll find out its all fiction and percentages pulled out of his ar5ehole. Who in Nigeria doesn't know that an Igbo man that makes it in Lagos will bring in up to 15 of his relatives along. Some will sleep in the shops, the company bus. Picking a help out of the number of relatives he imported is also a no-brainer so you see another lie from this dude i quoted. |

Hausas know how poor they are and don't make noises over it. What's the point of having one rich Adenuga in Yorubaland that gives arms to 3 thousand poverty stricken Yorubas every week. Thank God we are not poor to collect arms from Orji Uzor Kalus, Innosons, Emeka Ofos, Arthur Ezes, etc. |

The ibos you mentioned are greedy lots who dont care for their people thats why we see their youths fleeing SE alaigbo to sell caprisonne in lagos traffic. |

Because you're able to see the dregs of the Yoruba society because you live in Lagos doesn't mean they don't exist in your region. |

Ur very useless for Christ sake, most Africans that travelled to the Western world work as domestic or industrial workers while the citizens are the boss and call the shots, but here in Lagos the case is different for the Yoruba landowners. WHY... Yorubas in Onitsha sell Kolanuts and Fetish objects and they have dominated and excel ther(though i havent met a Yoruba landlord in Onitsha),the rest are into okada, domestic water fetchers, woodcutters, selling poisonous herbs, begging for alms etc. None is a landlord. But here is lagos, the landowners end up doing menial jobs, evacuating pit toilets, live in slums and poorest neighbourhoods,go the worst schools, have highest malnourished unclad kids, largest households of 12 to 15 kids yet parents are just motopark touts. ba7man: keep quiet jooor. No, who else collects N5, N10, N20, N30 in Onitsha and Aba?? Is it Yoruba too?? |

voltron: Only one question though. why does the Lagos economy dip during the Christmas period.. what happened to the business drivers..you mean the igbos own all the multi-national companies mentioned in the opening post? You mean igbos are the ones employing everybody? You mean all the media houses, phcn, airport etc close down when the igbos travel back to their erosion land? You must be an under 17 to have asked such question. |

If all Igbos moved out of Lagos, the economy will only shrink by less than 10% https://www.nairaland.com/1367007/examining-lagoss-gdp-figures The LASG will rather shut down Alaba and Ladipo markets for good, than watch a Dangote, Otedola or Otudeko close shop for one week |

ba7man: Shey una don hear??otedola has no meaningful contribution to development aside subsidy pilfering. please may I ask how dangote and Co plan to sell their goods without the marketers. how can you guys down play marketers. even corporate organisations employ more marketers than supposed professionals. |
| Re: Who Runs The Lagos Economy? by patrick89(m): 11:07am On Jan 07, 2014 |
Those marketers can also determine the kind of product (produced by the multinational companies) they sell out to the buyers since they all come from a particular ethnic group..so don't write off the traders because they are very united, if you push them to the wall they will be forced to boycott your product!! #justsaying |

Ignorance on display. Most of these companies are PLCs ,quoted on the stock exchange with share holders across Nigeria,so how can you arrogate the ownership to a particular tribe?Only one-man business can truly be described as being owned by a particular tribe. Do you know how many Nigerains from Hausa-Fulani, Kanuri, Nupes, Yoruba that have substantial shares in UBA, Diamond bank,Emzor etc? @Ilugun Boy I recalled one thread on Nairaland which provided a detailed listing of members of the board and MDs/CEOs of large companies in Lagos. |
| Re: Who Runs The Lagos Economy? by oyatz(m): 2:20pm On Jan 05, 2017 |
1)Traders are not a professioners, so traders can easily be replaced. 2) There is no article of trade that is sold only by members of a particular tribe. 3) If the traders decide to boycott a particular product (say Toyota spare parts or Dangote cement), they will drive themselves out of business because, non-Igbo traders will quickly replace them. patrick89: |

Is Christmas holiday ONLY for the Igbos? Very soon, you will start saying Igbos started Christmas in Nigeria. Only one question though. why does the Lagos economy dip during the Christmas period.. what happened to the business drivers.. |

How can a company that's publicly quoted on the NIGERIAN stock exchange with shareholders from various zones be rightly called Igbo or Yoruba owned?
