Thanks ya all for everything the support the talk the suggestion and all. Well this waz my experience at the American embassy in Abuja you should learn 1 or 2 from this.
Arrived Abuja went straight to Peak hotel about 10km drive from venue of my interview Diplomatic drive. Went to have some drinks at night with some old friends. Was at the embassy as early as 7am my 156 AND 157 where cross checked by the consular security I must confess that those guys where extremely friendly compared to there frustrated colleagues in Lagos. Went in by 8:15. My appointment letter confirmed again took my biometrics and sat down. I must confess at this point I was tensed up the first three applicants where practically given a us visa at a platter of Gold. Then I was called upon thus goes the interview.

VO- why u wanna go to the US
Dante- told him
VO-how old are u
Dante- told him
VO- whats your level of education
Dante told hm
VO how much do u earn
Dante-told him\
VO- wahts ur responsiblility at work
Dante- told him
VO- wahst the status of your host
Dante- that was where I goofed
VO-sorry your not eligible for a US visa today am not gonna stamp ur passport either thanks for your time.

That was it my passport was handed over to me without any stamp was short and brief I give it to those guys they are good. Note that not a single document was requested from me taking into consideration that I have traveled out and so I think he feels that I came prepared so he walked on my psychology instead. Am not given up my brothers and sisters I must be in US b4 the end of this year the reason is dis I wanna see wats with the US . Abuja is better and more organized than Lagos embassy. I have learnt from my mistake am goin back with same of everything not changing anything already booked another appointment this time around in Lagos. Wasn’t even told why I was denied which was unusual all others where told but I wasn’t. That’s how far with my trip in Abuja. Thanks once again for everything. Documents don’t matter with the Americans be it scanned or what ever if God is with u then ure getting it no matter what.

Hey Dantecmu:

Sorry to hear about your experience with the Embassy. I will give you a wild guess on the reason you were probably denied (especially for a visitor's visa):

- Your age (Young people with short/no "established" career history)
- The number of family members in the US - If you have a few people or close family in the States, the Visa Officer has the freedom to decide that you will be remaining with your family there, and not returning to your home country (This happened recently to a friend of mine and her family, But their case was for a student visa).

However, the US system is based on discretion/the VO's subjectivity, so your situation could have even depended on his/her perception of your papers/story that day, no matter how straightforward you were.

I think your comportment and coordination plays a major role in your success or failure at especially the American embassy.
Most V.Os play a psyche test on you, and as soon as you bungle it, it's over.

Anyways, keep trying, dreams do come true! You probably would make it - even this year.

The fact of the matter is if you are in control of that split moment of decision,,you are a winner.
So next time you pray, ask God to favor you in that moment of decision

@ Dan

to further help people, could you state exactly what you said to goof at the status part? Hide any personal details that you want to keep private and just give us the basic gist, so others will not make the same mistake.

Wish you success on your future applications.

Dante- he is a citizen

immediatlly i said that he frowned i tell u my brother everything b4 that question was pefect cause i was confident.

now my unccle is a resident permit holder not a citizen but his wife and kids are citizen so when he used the word COUSIN i thought he meant my uncles son. that was where i GOOFED if not i had it all worked out but i guess its alll for us to listen carefully b4 given an answer next time its 50 50 cause my passport wasnt stamped. you could holla if u still need any more clerifications

at least those guys treated you like a human being. the ones in lagos i hear, are a set of beastly bastards who have no iota of respect for nigerians in their own country.

@ Troubleone

You are obviously not current with the new usa embassy policy.
Since they started the fingerprint scan, they have stopped stamping any passport that is denied a visa.
So Dantecmu was absolutely right there.

Am so dissapointed you didnt get it. Its so unfair!!! but my guy i thought we did cover a bit of that aspect when you were preparing to go. Read through your previous thread. If you were not sure of the question you should have asked him to explain. "status" what do you mean pls? it could be marital, social or whatever status. They are human beigns too so he would have thrown more light there. Gush!!!! like they say, na God dey give person US Visa there is no hard and fast rule to their ways. make sure you do not deny the fact that you applied before, if asked subsequently, whether the passport was stamped or not they have your application online. They keep tight record of everything. See this scenario: my friend applied for visa in 1999, he was denied, he applied in 2002 with a different passport, was also denied, then comes 2007, he was already schooling in the Uk, applied there, with his new passport with Uk student visa on it. They brought out his past records for him to see. The date of birth did not correspond. That was it for him o!. They keep record.

Well good luck in your new application.

Aaaawwwww, never mind, you have a resilient character, so chin up and re-apply. Why don't you re-apply through Abuja again since that branch is staffed by humans as opposed to the lagos branch which is staffed by morons and arseholes, as someone mentioned.

Keep the faith, the same God that made the UK/Dublin trip possible will see you through.

Can someone clear me on this.

What if I go to the embassy without any invitation from US. That is I dont want to get any member of my family or friends involved on my coming . Apart from, conference , seminar invitation from the organisers.
Re: My Experience At The American Embassy Abuja by Goshen360(m): 4:13pm On Apr 24, 2008
@ poster,

It is good you understand that if you still come to lagos consular of the US embassy because you were denied at Abuja, you will still be denied at Lagos consular office because signal had already being sent into the central database for denied visa and since your fingerprint had already being taken, you cant even change your passport and reapply and go scourt free. Most time, at the US embassy, u have to reapply after 6 months from d date of denial.

This i had experienced, any way, Good luck if you still wish to try.

Please does anyone know how long visa application info is retained in the US embassy system ?
I was told previously that its erased from their system after 6 months, is that true ?
Re: My Experience At The American Embassy Abuja by Goshen360(m): 5:38pm On Jun 12, 2008
yes, i guess its true that it erases after 6months cos i have such experience when i applied for another visa after one year and i wasnt asked anything pertaining to my previous application.

hi guys, i have learnt quite a lot in a shortwhile i visited this site. its very informative.
Please i am puzzle on what to wear on my interview date which is to take place later this year.
Also, how does it really go right from the gate. I haven't been to American embassy before but with what i read here, it seems more like a place where theres is so much dissappointment.

I once asked a friend about what to wear, and he told me i could put on native with cap.(something casual). i am one of the lucky winners of the visa lottery. Do people in that category have preferential traetment.

Thanks in anticipation of your response.

Is a medical exam report part of requirements for a visitors visa to the US? and Tax clearance certificate?
Re: My Experience At The American Embassy Abuja by ddoctor: 5:24pm On Aug 19, 2008
It is nice to know that Nigeria are beginning to acknowledge themselves as important as the American. Going for interview in the America embassy is not the same as going to the slaughter house. I see no reason why you should have an iota of fear from the onset. It take guts to get an interactive discussion in the American embassy.

In my case, I introduce myself with the VO when I got to the interview room and requested to know her name. She smile and told me her name. To cut the long story short, we diverted from the interview and she was asking me my choice of candidate in the US election as if i am going to vote. I got my two years visit and I believe everyone has that right to be fearless.

I can give you personal advise if you want. Just give a post. Best Regards

hi ddoctor,
pls can you hint me on how you got appointment with the embassy. i've been trying to book but dont really know what to do cos all the slots are filled.

would appreciate your kind and urgent response. must we pay for this? its not as if its an assurance for the visa itself

thanks

Hi talk2onyii,

Sorry, I have been out of the country. I would have got a reponse to you earlier than this. The space for appointment is now being manipulated. I do not encourage bribe but that is what is going on now. It usually cost 30k to get a space in abuja and 20k to get one in lagos. That is how far it is now. I am sorry to inform you.

Ddoctor.

Re: My Experience At The American Embassy Abuja by Thadude(m): 2:23pm On May 17, 2009
@ddoctor

How can we confirm ur story?? cos anyone can come here and post any thing, i dont buy ur experience during the interview, the VOs are always under a time circle, so dont know how and why she would ask you for ur candidate preference? You poped my eyes out wit that specific story it is against the Law for a Greencard holder to get involved in Presidential elections in the USA not to mention visiting visa holder, infact it is punishable by revoke of Greencard and immediate deportation (So you know she couldnt have in anyway asked you for ur perference), they at the embassy are representative of the U.S govt. and they operate by a set of codes. They keep their presidential election as in house issue. Thats the LAW!
Besides presidential election periods are times when the US restrict visas the most even to visiting and foreign govt officials.
so your story is absolute garbage!
You could have asked for her names and all that, but!, i am wondering where she got the time out of her restricted 5mins interview with you.
So confirm your story or your post will be considered as one of those sponky-gatty stories. I believe u re just trying to show ur self as a visa pro for applicants, not that there is anything wrong in it but! come clean.
