Why do ALL of their Universities or Colleges make compulsory first year FULL Tuition payment before Confirmation of enrollent is given?
Unlike Austraia where you make a Semester deposit to get CoE.

@cconcept, Doctorate degree students pay domestic tuition of abt 6k or thereabout plus u can bring ur wife if you have one..she may get a work visa under ur student visa(visit NZ immigration)...the domestic tuition scheme is to market NZ skools and increase its value in the world of research..also to attract the best brains frm all over the world..most doctorates complete their studies compared to the number of dropouts frm bachelors or lesser programs..

the fees are quite fair.
what is the essence of attracting the best brains when they will leave after their studies?

@wahabcoal, Australia and NZ are good neighbours with similar systems but their laws are not the same...nz charge fees up front, autralia charge half fees up front, most US skools wudnt charge u up front, finland doesnt even have fees...so different law 4 diff folks

Some do stay permanently and those that leave become good alumni of the university. universities sell themselves on the world stage by the quality of their Alumni especially the PH.D research fellows..Auck uni is on the top 100 in the world. most Nz unis are in the top 500.

@dinlin,can you tell us more about accommodation in the different cities-how easy to get, rent and bills etc?
Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by dinlin: 10:04pm On Jul 29, 2014
cconcept: @dinlin,can you tell us more about accommodation in the different cities-how easy to get, rent and bills etc?
Accomodation is a national political issue in the country..its not easy to get accommodation as demand is more than supply..many kiwis r returning frm Australia cos of austerity measures there..so ther is a pressure on the housing...visit trademe.co.nz to see the diff. cities...a 1 bedroom in aukland central is abt 250 a wk...3 bed room in suburbs is btw 320 to 450 a wk..u need to pay bond abt 3 to 4 wks in advanc bfor u get the house...u get the bond back wen u move elsewher provided the house is well lookd after..student accmodatn flatmatin is cheapest..u guys share the rent cost..or best if u got a relative here..

I just got my Conditional Offer letter today... However i will have to wait till the end of this month to receive my Official Transcript for my Masters degree to send to UoA for them to send the Unconditional offer letter which will be used to process my Visa.. @coldgate which programme did you apply to?
Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by cconcept: 6:10am On Aug 01, 2014
@solomoncater,congrats.what was the fees quoted on the offer letter?

@coldgate,it is nice you are interested in applying.have you written ielts?do you have a proposal? Have you made any contact with any supervisors and got a consent-securing consent goes a long way in improving your chances? These are the initial things to sort out early.

@cconcept its just a conditional offer letter i believe when they send the unconditional offer letter the school fees will be included.. however the fees is stated in their website so its an open information.
Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by coldgate(f): 10:17am On Aug 01, 2014
@Solomoncater: I chose a general area for research and several members of the faculty are specialists in that area. That should increase my chances. I do have my research proposal. Thanks for the tip on supervisors. I'll do that immediately.

Bro i am not yet in NZ but hopefully will be there next month so i will give you a break down of the little i know.

Housing is the major problem in NZ as the houses are very expensive. 1.5 Million will not be able to cover your stay in NZ because Flight alone is like 300K... i don't know the course of your choice to take but i advice you to take shortage skill jobs and if you are in the construction industry then please target Christchurch because they lack Civil Engineers.

A bit of an Advice will be that 6 months a course will get you no where...but do not be discouraged and try your best.

Lastly you are the best person to give you the best information.... all the answers are online so all you need to do is check the internet and you will find answers.

Did you check online to see how much their short courses are? Did you check to see how much their housing is? After you have done that then you will know if it is enough.

Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by mhalikbass: 5:01pm On Sep 24, 2014
dinlin: @justcare. I mean hustling illegally. fees are btw 16 to 23k depending on skool. skools can be a polytec, institute, college and degree awarding university. 20 hrs a wk work on a valid student visa. dont think r sharp theyl catch u and send u home...processin for naija can take anywher from 3 to 6 months..u need a confirmation of enrolment, police report, medical report, bank statement and ties to home country. its a time consuming process. u send applicatn to nz embassy in pretoria. fulltime jobs shuld earn you abt 40k or more depending on skilled area per yr on a 16.50 dols an hr. some occupations are on the shortage list so you can do ur research and see what course u can invest ur money. shortage skills lead to residence. google these infos. you can do it all by urself. I did...dont come study course wey dem no need if u want to stay to get residence. finance, bis admin, chemistry are nt needed so package ursef...nursing,social work, physical therapy, engineers e.t.c. so yeah all up to u.

can i use state or federal hospital for the medical report? cos someone told me they only accept st' nicholas hospital.

@dinlin I always do my research very well and yes i know of www.tradesme.co.nz, i even have an account and the apps is on my phone so i check for vacancies everyday. the only challenge i have is that people i email usually ask me to come check out the place physically, I am still in Asia waiting for my Unconditional offer so i can apply for my visa in Singapore which will take just 10 days. So please if you could assist me in getting a place prior to my arrival i will really appreciate it. I have sent you a request so please accept so i can explain better one on one. $120 is not for houses in Auckland city. the average i have seen is about $180 which is around my budget.
