Marc9: In case u come across dis in GNS(english), the rite sentence is ... U aren't taller than I (or I am), not 'than me', cos "than" is a conjunction that joins two sentences together, and every sentence begins with a subject, and "I" is a subjective personal pronoun, while "me" is an objective personal pronoun. U don too repeat d err like 6 times, so I say mai help correct am. Hope u understand? smiley
Sorry o, but why was it used as an example in Oxford advanced learner dictionary if it isn't correct? check "tall"

Re: University Of Ibadan 2014/15 Admission Process.... by mathefaro(m): 5:14pm On Sep 15, 2014
Whether than is to be followed by the objective or subjective case of a pronoun is much discussed in usage guides. When, as a conjunction, than introduces a subordinate clause, the case of any pronouns following than is determined by their function in that clause: He is younger than I am. I like her better than I like him. When than is followed only by a pronoun or pronouns, with no verb expressed, the usual advice for determining the case is to form a clause mentally after than to see whether the pronoun would be a subject or an object. Thus, the sentences he was more upset than I and she gave him more sympathy than I are to be understood, respectively, as he was more upset than I was and she gave him more sympathy than I gave him. In the second sentence, the use of the objective case after than(She gave him more sympathy than me) would produce a different meaning (She gave him more sympathy than she gave me). This method of determining the case of pronouns after than is generally employed in formal speech and writing. Than occurs as a preposition in the old and well-established construction than whom :a musician than whom none is more expressive. In informal, especially uneducated, speech and writing, than is usually treated as a preposition and followed by the objective case of the pronoun: He is younger than me. She plays better poker than him, but you play even better than her

Relax! It's wrng! It's like also saying... U're taller than "him". That's wrong! We have several conjunctions like Or, And, Nonetheless, Than, As, and so on. Nw check out dis sentences.... He went out AND me went out too! Does dat make sense? Shldnt it be 'He went out and I went out too(not me went out too). Other examples are: He'll do AS I did(not me did). He'll go OR I'll go(not me'll go) . So also, U're aren't taller THAN I(nt me) am.
In colloqual expression, ....THAN me is often used, but its nt a formal expression! smiley

Albeit, I'm still a learner when it comes to the use of English o, but you don't expect me to disregard OALD which was compiled by the owners of the language itself just because of what you also read somewhere. it's true that "she's taller than me" is informal but it is not wrong. The word "than" be treated as proposition in ordinary speeches and writings. Check all the guides on the usage of "than", you'll see what I'm talking about. #peace

You see.. the problem we have as Nigerian students is that we rely too much on textbooks for things... d matter is actually complex.
While what you think is right(which I am aware of).. what he also thinks is right to an extent..
There was a tym when it was accepted ...but unfortunately... most textbook authors have not corrected the stuff..
N that's because some examination bodies do not move with current trends.. I have someone who marks Waec English papers.. He purposely showed me their scheme.. and I was surprised to see that even waec has not accepted some English language modifications that have been made since 2010 or so... Meanwhile... some teachers teach their students with current trends ( in very good schools) but when the students use them in waec.. they fail....
Same thing might be happening with JAMB ..althi me not sure of that..
.
So ...all these English errors n stuffs... its only God that can save us from them. I don't blame students who do not know some new stuffs in d language....
.
Main thing na to dey learn my Yoruba dey go jare,,, English na wahala..

Looking forward to Nigeria dividing n yoruba being accepted as the 2nd National language of the Oduduwa Nation..**I know some people will think my a tribalist...I don't care sha**

Una too like wahala eh! The young man said.... U aren't taller than me. Is than acting as a preposition in dat context? Eh? I corrected him based on his usuage of than( as conjunction).

Abeg wen u see am for exam, choose d one u like u hear?

Na so some of una dey follow me(us) dey argue some p.utme questions, after d result come out, we no hear dem talk again.
All I did was to correct him cos "than" is acting as a conjunction and shld be immediately followed by a subjective case, nt objective case!
