Sannun Ku anam yaaran makaranta da su malama/malami. I na gasua. Translation: Una Weldon here o school students and teachers(females/males). I greet you. | Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by psalmizt(m): 1:57pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Jbluv55:Can that be written as ba masala abokina? Isn't ka ci "to give"? is it being used as eat here? |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by jacabi(m): 2:03pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Jbluv55:Ban ci naman sallah(I mean I no chop sallah meat). |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Jbluv55(m): 2:06pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
psalmizt:True that "ba masala" = "no big deal" can also be used. Ci = eat Give = ba Ba ni kudi = give me money Ba shi takada din = give him that book |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by psalmizt(m): 2:11pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Jbluv55:I have always heard ga ci/ka ci when an hausa man wants to give me something.... or is there something like ga shi? |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Jbluv55(m): 2:21pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
jacabi:Kai kokarin ai ![]() . Note the addition I made tho'. I don't know the reason but whenever you intend to deny something or say anything that means negation, the 'ba' always usually must begin and end that statement. I didn't go = ban je ba I don't know = ban sani ba I am not coming = ba zan zo ba Ka gane? |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by jacabi(m): 2:24pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Jbluv55:Deos "shi" means "him" and "din", "that"? |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Jbluv55(m): 2:25pm On Oct 07, 2014*. Modified: 3:32pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
psalmizt:Yes sir! Shi = he/it Ga = see Ga shi = see it Ga ni na = see me here Ga Aboki_ nka a chan = see your friend over there Ka gane? |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by psalmizt(m): 2:28pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Jbluv55:Na gane... Ga shi means see it.... Interesting .... Nairaland magic... A.boki becomes Northerner ![]() so what is take it or have it.... |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Jbluv55(m): 2:29pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
jacabi:Yes bro . So can you translate the following?: I will not give him that book. |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by jacabi(m): 2:36pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Jbluv55:Na gane. *translate this: "kai kokarin ai"* |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Jbluv55(m): 2:40pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
psalmizt:Hehehe ![]() . I get your drift. Its common in Nigerian languages to often use 'see it' in place of 'collect it'. So you won't be wrong to tell someone "Ga shi" when you mean "take/collect it". I think the actual translation tho' is "tattara shi" However, when something is lying fallow, and I want you to take it, I would have to say "Dauke shi" = "pick/take it" |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by jacabi(m): 2:40pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Jbluv55:Ban zan shi takada din ba. |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Jbluv55(m): 2:42pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
jacabi:Means "You tried na" |

Jbluv55:Yawwa! |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Joslyn(f): 2:58pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Pls translate, stop shouting/ making noise |
| Re: HAUSALAND: Teach Me Hausa by Jbluv55(m): 3:03pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
jacabi:Alright. 2 corrections. (1) "Ban" is used for past tense while "Ba zan" @ the beginning is continuous tense e.g: I didn't give him = Ban ba shi ba I am not giving him = Ba zan ba shi ba (2) You omitted "give" which is also "ba" Assessment: 65% ![]() |
