Lagos Targets 25% Food Production By 2018 by Omooba77(op): 6:20am On Oct 10, 2014
As part of efforts to ensure food security, Lagos State government, yesterday, said its target was to meet 25 percent of food production in the state by 2018.
This came as the state government concluded plans to construct a Metropolitan Park at Ajetutun in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the activities slated for this year’s World Food Day at Alausa, Ikeja, said the decision to set the 25 percent target was to ensure that the state’s teeming population did not at any time experience food scarcity.
Lawal added that apart from the acquisition of land from Osun, Oyo and Ogun states and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, respectively, for farming purposes, the state was also embarking on several programmes and projects targeted at boosting food production in the state.
He said: “For fish production, in 2010, we were able to produce 109,000 metric tonnes. At the end of December 2013, we are at 159,000 metric tonne.”
He added that demand for rice was huge, and Nigeria will benefit a lot if only the players in the private sector partner with the state government to boost rice production.

That would be a miracle...cos I see the cultivation done on third mainland bridge... All lagos lagoons sinks and no fish can survive in such waters where solid, chemical, toxic waste are dumped into lagos water bodies indiscriminately!

Japan also has some ideas about growing food indoors.
